Make sure you don't have too many individual monsters on you at a time. Snearing Kick is your friend, it'll allow you to pull a single monster away from a group of them. This is especially true if you're going after red monsters.

Always keep some pots on hand so you can alternate between pots/stones if you start losing HP as a rate faster than you can stone.
