I wrote a poem...

Please tell me what you think of it, if you read it:

Death's Silent Spectre

Silently through the door, Death barges in,
An entity of silence, a creator of the din.

Discriminating not, between the Old and the Young
Lives are simply his playthings; a little boy having fun.

The car wreck, killing a mother of two,
The young boy falling to his death at the zoo

So listen, dear children, both young and old,
For what i shall tell you simply must be told.

While, when you'll die, there's no way to tell,
True love in life breaks the chains of that Hell.

For if love is infinite, why not too the Soul?
Not all will disappear into Death's dark hole.

So fear not death, simply hate and strife
for the only true death is that of a wasted life.

I see someone is also in the mood for poetry. I've been reading Yeats's (yes, Yeats's, not Yeats' or Yeat's) collection of poems. They're great.

I like the poem. Is it your first attempt?

^That's how I like to punctuate it too.

Also, the correct way, IIRC

Fighterboy 07-31-2009 03:22 PM

I like it.

Tamashiiryuu 07-31-2009 05:24 PM

I love it.

No, acctually, i posted another poem in this section pretty recently... look at the thread "A Poem", it's still on the first page.... i write a lot, acctually. as for it being the first draft of this one, im not sure... i think i MAY have... but i cant quite remember if i changed the last few lines or not.

also, i have some more poems too. if you want me to post one, i'd be happy to. :D

Never heard of Yeats... but my personal favorite is deffinitely Poe.

thanks for the compliments you guys :D

Im not too well studied in poems. i just recently started getting into them, hrae. Not a name i hear often... and sadly my school's english program focuses more on us reading pointless short stories than anything with actual value. Luckily, we DID get a few gems this year, but not nearly as many as i would've wanted. (the only exceptions i can think of is "The Tell Tale Heart", one of ray bradbury short stories, and two of the short novels she had us read as a class...)

...Why is it that the only time you post in my threads is to belittle me, or whatever i support? o_O

^o^

Some short stories are awesome D:

Jikanu 07-31-2009 06:40 PM

Nonono, i agree heartily, ralath. but we read really generic ones that have very little point instead of learning of some stuff to look up ourselves :/

Ralath 07-31-2009 07:02 PM

What have you read? o:

Jikanu 07-31-2009 07:33 PM

Cant name them all off the bad, since it's been a while.. this year wasnt so bad, but previous ones were an absolute joke... This year we had Flowers for Algernon, at least.

I wasn't belittling you. I was just shocked that you'd never heard of Yeats before. He's one of the big names in poetry. It doesn't say anything about you or your character. Then again, I often find myself thinking things are common knowledge when they don't seem to be.

I'm a big Bradbury fan, so we've got that in common, at least.

I suck at poetry.. well writing it. Understanding it is easy.. usually.

Nice job though.
