Are people getting overly paranoid?

Max's privacy war brings Facebook to heel

So this Austrian guy got Facebook to send him all the personal information that Facebook has of him.

Facebook sent him a document with 1222 pages that has all this pokes, request notifications and chats for the entire time that he's been using Facebook.

Being mindful that this paper likes to exaggerate matters, they took the opportunity to go RAWR RAWR PRIVACY INVASION!

Personally I don't see what the huge fuss is about. A lot of the information are fairly useless, like pokes and me sending a carrot to my FV friend or something.

I'm aware that they use my cookies to show me the "right" ads. But what harm does that do?

With this new day and age, should people be more accepting in having websites that you use gather your movements online?

I wouldn't care. Now if they were giving away my personal information like my name, address, email, etc. then I'd be irked. I don't know if its this way now but I ran into a site that would give away phone numbers and addresses. So if you searched a phone number, it'd give the address, and vice versa. It gave you the option to remove it from the results, which is good and I did. But it's stuff like that that I don't like.

People have to be. Current polls show 89% of American citizens don't trust their government ... and I wonder why.

I'm paranoid, cause cops like to pretend they have the power to slap drug trafficking charges on you because of assumptions, and they can ... which I don't wanna go through.

Or how about the fact that google and other major online corporations admit to 90% of the time giving government/lay enforcement access to peoples online information. I've had my emails and facebook accounts gone through because of a craigslist add!

No, people shouldn't be more accepting. People should receive the same rights of privacy we receive in life .. and more.
