Soylent

So there's this product called Soylent
http://www.soylent.me/
It's essentially all your nutrients in a powdered form. You mix it with water, drink it, and that's your meal. I like the idea of it, it's a really easy way to get all your nutrients in. Unfortunately Soylent is back ordered for several months b/c of the large volumes of orders. So I ordered an alternative, 100% food.
http://www.spacenutrientsstation.com/
I just tried the bottle today and it was...doable. Flavor is eh. I got the sample so it comes with one serving of the regular product and one of the chocolate. Going to try the chocolate tomorrow and hopefully it's better.

What do you guys think of it?? Would you ever try it?

Blaaaaaaaah 12-24-2014 12:20 AM

My first thought was - is this spam??

Blaaaaaaaah 12-24-2014 12:26 AM

Is it meant to replace meals or something?

I'm not sure... I prob wouldn't try it unless I can easily buy it in convenient stores. I kind of think it's too good to be true! To get all the nutrients you need in a few drinks.... if it was true I think it would be way more expensive.

Maybe for a niche market? Like how protein powder is used by muscle builders... wouldn't incorporate the drink as my daily intake though.

I'd rather have solid food, though I can sorta understand the appeal for some people

Ralath 12-24-2014 12:54 AM

I've heard of it....

I eat for a lot of different reasons, taste being one of them lol.

Honestly, it sounds better as a way to fight hunger and malnourishment in poverty areas or 3rd world areas than something I would want for myself. Like maybe if I was really really busy???? And hadn't eaten properly in 3 days?

It's not a good option for 3rd world countries because iy requires water which isn't exactly the best quality in those parts. Instead the children usually get their nutrients in the form of a nut-based paste (I forgot the name of it)

Lirange 12-24-2014 01:19 AM

Yeah it's meant to replace meals. I'm hoping to use it as my main source of food. I love food too and will still eat out with friends/family and eat food my coworkers bring in. I don't like cooking and most of my meals have been Popeyes and Chipotle. I'm trying to be healthy and it's hard and expensive if you don't cook so I think this will be very convenient.

And yeah, you mix this with clean water so it's not ideal for places where that's inaccessible.

omgg!!.. the only people I've heard of actually doing it are tech bros...

http://valleywag.gawker.com/soylent-...far-1642275755

let us know how it goes.....

Vasu 12-24-2014 04:58 AM

Yeah there have always been foods that cover all your nutritional needs. So does Soylent, but the problem is the human body is used to feeling "filled" or in general craving that feeling. So often this works counter-productively because most people end up sneaking a bite or two even after eating all the "nutrition" they needed for that day, therefore becoming fat.

Yeah I read you will still feel hungry but eventually your body will get used to it. And I'm pretty skinny so I wouldn't mind gaining weight anyways lol.

wat

Lirange 12-24-2014 03:25 PM

Wait, what do you consider as one?

Ralath 12-24-2014 10:23 PM

Uhh well idk. The stuff I read on Valleywag?

But when I think of tech bro, the first person that comes into my mind isn't Lirange.

I don't think most tech bros are big lady gaga fans. They're more like Avicii fans.

Blaaaaaaaah 12-24-2014 10:32 PM

hahahahahahahaaaah

Lirange 12-24-2014 11:12 PM

I'm a tech bro with good music taste.

Lirange 12-28-2014 08:13 PM

The chocolate flavor one is better. Taste like chocolate milk, which i personally dislike but i can deal with it. Ordered a weeks worth so hopefully I can do it!

Ralath 12-28-2014 11:00 PM

You also need stuff like fiber in your diet that primarily comes from plant type stuff. Don't know if soylent has that...

Lirange 12-28-2014 11:23 PM

http://static.wixstatic.com/media/68...0_0.00_png_srz
This doesn't show it has fiber but the 100food guy on reddit says it does contain fiber.

http://www.reddit.com/r/soylent/comm...eto_11/cn20g06

He's talking about the double protein though it doesn't have it listed on the nutritional facts
http://static.wixstatic.com/media/68...0_0.00_png_srz
So i'm guessing they don't list fiber on the nutritional facts?

Ralath 12-29-2014 12:49 AM

it's under the carbohydrates.

But damn, that's a hella-lot of sugar....

Lirange 12-29-2014 12:59 AM

oh loool. I was looking for ingredients that started with Fiber

And sugar isn't bad for you!

Ralath 12-29-2014 04:14 AM

Sugar is most definitely bad for you.

It's a long video but it completely changed my outlook on sugar.

Tamashiiryuu 01-09-2015 12:40 AM

I had a nice paragraph about sugar and shit, but firefox decided to shaft me and crashed. I couldn't care less about remembering everything I wrote so here is this: sugar meh ok. (in moderationtho, lol wut dat) too much very bad. factory made and processed food bad for that reason. fats n sugars combination deliciously addictive and cheap. too much fruit bad for u too, so we're all screwed.

The product would definitely be cool as a meal substitute for whenever it's inappropriate to prepare a meal. Like being in lab, or class, or when you just cant be bothered to stop playing Dark Souls 2...

Sugar: The Bitter Truth - YouTube

It's a long video but it completely changed my outlook on sugar.

Quote:

According to the American Heart Association (AHA), the maximum amount of added sugars you should eat in a day are (7): Men: 150 calories per day (37.5 grams or 9 teaspoons). Women: 100 calories per day (25 grams or 6 teaspoons).
A serving has 40g of sugar a day, three would make it 120g so i'm still under the maximum amount of sugar by 30g drinking this.

I ordered mine last week but have yet to receive it:(. I emailed them and they said they got double the amount of orders in December and according to my tracking I wont get my package till Monday.

omg haven't you beaten the game already

Tamashiiryuu 01-09-2015 10:24 PM

ummm...no. I keep getting distracted with new interesting builds, so I always just restart mid way through the game. I have yet to beat Dark Souls too...so....yea...

Lirange 01-18-2015 11:06 PM

So I've been on it since Wednesday and I like it! I've eaten solid foods everyday but yesterday but it's usually just one meal.
I just ordered 4 weeks worth and it totaled up to $335 with shipping! So much! Though that's probably around or less than what I would spend normally.

Tamashiiryuu 01-20-2015 08:54 PM

...335?!?!?! Imagine all of the video games you could have purchased during the steam summer sale! Holy crap! The product must be good if you're taking a commitment that large. Let me know how your body reacts to it after taking it for several weeks!

Lirange 01-20-2015 10:26 PM

Well it's not that much if you take I to consideration how much you normally spend on food.

And will do. Though I've been eating food too so I'm not 100 percent o it though I do take 3 servings a day.

Lirange 01-20-2015 11:13 PM

Am I supposed to feel bad?!?!

Blaaaaaaaah 01-21-2015 09:30 AM

feel bad for what

Lirange 01-21-2015 11:03 AM

"we haven't had a weekend off since December "

Blaaaaaaaah 01-21-2015 07:08 PM

oh hahahaaha

Ralath 01-21-2015 07:59 PM

That email is weirdly passive aggressive and overly friendly.

Blaaaaaaaah 01-21-2015 08:33 PM

Yeah I got the same vibe lol that's not a very good customer service response.

4/10

I just ordered this gum. I don't like coffee but I need caffeine. Staying awake at work can be a struggle at times. Hopefully this will be able to keep me awake.

Blaaaaaaaah 02-05-2015 06:10 PM

But don't you sleep very early?!

Blaaaaaaaah 02-05-2015 06:14 PM

https://www.facebook.com/nationalsle...905802/?type=1

Lirange 02-05-2015 09:17 PM

I'm never fully awake throughout the day, are you??

Blaaaaaaaah 02-06-2015 05:07 AM

Yeah on most days.....

Lirange 02-06-2015 05:58 PM

Maybe you're not thinking enough!

Lirange 10-10-2015 12:41 AM

so I want to get back into this, especially now that I want to go vegan. I ordered Joylent which is a European brand, and they have like fruity flavors so I ordered Banana and Strawberry.

There is also now Soylent 2.0 which comes in cute little bottles and they apparently taste like cheerios with milk.

Hopefully one of those work for me.
