[FF Notice] Member of the Month Update
 

Due to recent developments within the Fiesta community, we feel that it is best that we post-pone our Member of The Month event, until further notice.

We try to make this forum and fun and fair place, but apparently, no matter what we do, we cannot make everyone happy. So, in order to cut down on drama and accusations, we figure it was best to just not select anyone until things cool down for a while.

We will reevaluate the program and see if we can come up with a way of selecting the member of the month where the members can PLAINLY see that our decisions are based solely on the how that particular person acts on the forum and contributes to the forum.

So, and even bigger congratulations to Leesa, Gandolph, and Ivramire for being the first three MoTM. And until further notice, the only three.

If any of the members have any suggestions on how you see is the best way to select the Member of The Month, then please feel free to put suggestions in here.

We have ALWAYS stated that we are open to suggestions.

Why don't you hold nominations and voting?
That way the members have more of a say on who it is and then there
is less complaining.

Loveless posted earlier that we're always open for nominations.

That doesn't exactly work, though, as evidenced by other voting contests. People are going to whine, piss, bitch, and moan no matter what.

Nominations were always there and I thought voting/favoritism was part of the problem in the first place, so yeah.


Frankly can't see how it could be changed, part of the problem is that there'll be complications if certain people were selected.

Yeah, sometimes to in the nominating case it's just how popular a person is, bad idea on my part I guess.

We do choose them only because no one else steps up to nominate an individual. We've been saying since our first MotM that we're open for nominations (with back-up statements as to why they should be).

Since the first month.

Everyone is helpful on the forums but it is kind of hard to "pick one" that should get special recognition. We only have 12 months a year and a year alone cannot even accommodate half of the helpful people here.

Anyway, we may have found a new/better approach for this.

Honestly your just turning a generally positive forum into a vicious, bever hills 90210-esque backstabbing festival.

Crap like this is just so people can feel better about themselves in superficial ways, and serves no purpose in the community other to spurn hatred of the winners. So just get rid of it all.

I think the idea is sound, in theory. It was a way to show "thanks!" to the various members that positively contribute to the community we have here, but jealousies on the part of some people did sort of taint the whole thing, I'm afraid. Ah well. Sometimes even the best intended projects get derailed.

@Mindspank--Interesting that you should say that considering there were no problems with it during the first three months that MotM was given out.

They were just lucky. ;D

They werent randomly picked out of a hat...

They all helped made FF fun / helpful... that's why they were picked...

But yeah, because this is such a small community... if no one really stood out for the title then just skip it for the month... If it was picked just coz someone needs to be picked then it takes the honour out of the title...

True in a way, not true in another way.

MotM was not really a problem. We initially decided to stop doing this because we realised the way we were doing it will eventually lead to problems you have mentioned, just not yet. So instead of keeping this thing up, we decided to stop till we find a better way to do it.

We have thought of another way, which may be posted up soon, though we are not sure if that's going to be better yet. We're going to try it anyway, and see how it turns out. If it doesn't turn out well, then we may probably have to scrape the whole idea in the end. Anyway, I won't go into details about the new thing yet.

Though, with the first three MotMs, there were no "vicious, bever hills 90210-esque backstabbing festival" or members "feel(ing) better about themselves in superficial ways", lol. If there were... I'm sure we would have heard the complaints already.

@Sparky: Please, please, please read the posts before jumping to say the previous MotMs were just "lucky". We have explained our reason for selecting the MotMs (and even provided links for "reference"). They very well deserved it.

I personally don't see a problem with doing a MotM - if someone is doing something that deserves recognition, then give it to them. You mods know better than anyone what goes into the site and what is going on behind the scenes. If petty jealousy and whining breaks in, that's just life. Some people need to grow up and realize that it's not all about them.

It's just our way of showing appreciation to the active members on the site, and those who work hard to make this a reliable fansite.

Like blahs said, we're trying to work on something that, instead of us being forced to pick someone out, even when we can't come up with one person to award it too, we could receive help, and it gives everyone a fair chance to become member of the month.

It's not like Fiesta's player of the month, you can't really gain much from it, just a tag under your name for a month. And if it makes just one person feel appreciated, its well worth it.

As fiesta PoTM...There's like 1+mil players.

Imagine how outspark can select one...

Noone knows me but some how I was one of the "lucky", "honored", "deserving", "worthy" 3. To use all the titles I have seen so far for us. :laugh:

But I hope to see it continue. It does show that people recognize what someone has done to help/extend the great place of FF.

What about selecting the one who does the rules alot?

I mean like...Don't double post, Use edit button, Don't Flame.
