Some people ask tough questions...
I've just been asked... in MS Excel..
"How come sometimes when I drag a number down, it copies the same number 1 1 1 1 but sometimes it changes the number 1 carol street 2 carol street 3 carol street":zzz: I've never thought of asking anything like that.. I just accept it hand change it to what I need... I guess I can go into explaining cell formats but... I think that might go right over their head.. |
This reminded me I needed to mark my hours.
Just leave it at computers are smart. They just know when to copy and when it's a sequence. |
Well I told her that Excel is trying to be smart except it doesn't work every time...
|
They're getting smarter!
|
Hmm.. that's interesting, I've also wondered how Excel decides when to fill a series and when to simply copy the cell.
|
It just does.
xD |
Magic.

People that ask the same question OVER AND OVER AGAIN is annoying me!
She ask it once every two days like it was a brand new question! |
I'm not sure if all version work the same, but if they want sequential numbers tell them to try right clicking the lower right corner of a cell and drag it to the end of the column or row they want to fill - when they stop dragging a menu should pop up and they just select series. If they want the same number, just left click the first cells lower right corner and drag to the end of the column or row they want to fill - this should fill all cells with the same number.
But, like I said, I'm not sure if all versions of Excel do that. My version does, so I just left or right click based on how I want the fill. |
Ohh I've never clicked on that menu... I just manipulate it to make Excel see my pattern..
But that's handy to know! I shall show that lady next time she comes in. |
