Hello everyone, long time no see!

Hi guys!

How are you? I wonder if anyone here still remembers me or even lurks around (took me forever to remember the password to the account ). And I missed those slime smileys too!

I signed up over 10 years ago, and now I realize that if I was a 17-year old carefree student who just started university and still living with his parents back then, now I am a 27-year old that has a CompSci Ba. diploma, a full time job and moved out years ago. Damn how time flies. If I could see your faces, the first thing I'd probably say is how old you all look.

So, did anyone get married/has kids yet?

Hessah 05-09-2018 08:56 PM

HAHAHA yes I'm married with a kid! :gasp::laugh:

Can't believe it's been 10 years... crazy...

so old that even my signature doesn't load anymore HAHA

Congratz! :zomg::cutielove:

How's family life treating you? And what about Blahs? Bug her to come online here, I miss everyone.

As for signatures, I'm surprised mine even works at this point. Who would've thought that a small time picture hosting domain would do 10 years like this.

Hessah 05-09-2018 11:39 PM

Thanks! family life is good! Blahs is doing well too.. if I remember I'll ask her to come here and say Hi!

Five bucks says you've got no time to play games now. Is Blahs married/has kids? :ninja:

... I've never before been so tempted to put as many smilies in a forum post as possible.

:arg:

:smarty:

Gosh how I missed this. :uhoh: Please excuse my giddiness.

Vasu 05-10-2018 06:50 PM

Hey! Of course I remember you. How have you been? I feel the same as you. So much time has passed since I first started to post on this forum. I now live in a different country, gone to two different colleges, and am finally working. Whenever I come back here it really feels like a blast from the past.

... Wow, I feel like I live a boring live compared to yours. I should take a vacation to spice things up. :cheeky:

What's your specialization?

Hessah 05-11-2018 03:46 PM

Look how much more mature we all sound LOL

I used to think Haersvelg was old at 28.. now.. I'm in my mid 30s :gasp::gasp::gasp:

LOL.. how old would Hraesvelg be now? I still remember him trying to teach us how to pronounce his name... like hrraays ve le geh or something.

And wow, is this a mini reunion where we actually respond to each other within a few days?! Usually it's like 'hi' *3 months later* 'hi' LOL!

And yes I'm doing well... no kids yet (not ready for dat responsibility!) but got engaged about two months ago... and bought a place with my partner three weeks ago... and will be turning 30 this year. Big things happening for me!! Adulting is so expensive

I miss gaming, I actually wanted to get into some game, but don't know what and also don't really have the time. The most recent games I play are just nintendo switch games with my partner (and actual friends IRL LOL) and Pokemon Go :laugh:

So good to see you guys post here and doing well. Long live FiestaFan - can't believe this site is still alive. I wonder how Entropy does it, or if it even costs anything anymore.. maybe the bots viewing the ads are enough to pay off hosting cost?!

Edit: are you guys keeping in touch with any other FFers outside the forum? I'll bug Ralath and Lirange to post

Ralath 05-11-2018 04:50 PM

I still play some games. Mostly Overwatch now.

Ah man, I never realized Hrae was 28. I'm 28 now and don't feel I'm the same age as Hrae was then. :o

Blaaaaaaaah 05-11-2018 05:01 PM

You still play overwatch!?

Ralath 05-11-2018 09:50 PM

Yeah???

It feels like less than a year ago since we played together.

No really. Wow.

Actually I donated some on site's Paypal (another nice thing about being an adult - having your own Paypal money to spend, teehee! :cutielove:), and renting a cloud server can be a matter of $5/mo. I don't know the details about this domain, but I don't think it's something that racks up a tremendous bill. Your phone bill probably costs more.

Speaking of which, where is my supporter tag? :hulksmash: I guess this is something applied manually?

HAHAHA omg you actually remembered that and found it? :cheeky::cheeky::cheeky:

I was going to fight back about the accusation of being immature but you found a good one there, I'll let it go LOL

I'm guessing Hraesvelg should be in his 40s now

Naah, found it by accident while digging through reputation comments in my User CP. Seemed fitting to add it.

If it's any consolidation (and speaking of Hrae!), here's something else I found during the dig:

cillia 05-13-2018 11:17 PM

It's pretty crazy to see where people are in life now! I'm transferring from one college to another so I can finally graduate soon... I got to live in japan for a year after high school and ate the best food of my life the whole entire time :nahnah: I'm still gaming often, I'm trying out Maplestory 2 CBT right now, I'll probably play the game more once it releases (assuming its not crazy p2w like some predictions...) Also been playing overwatch and stuff. Also got VR and have way too many hours on VRchat than I'd like to admit(but 1/2 of it was just me sitting in front of a mirror while i was doing stuff in Unity I swear). Also in like 2012 I got lucky and got a following on youtube so that's a thing too.
Guess I should also mention I still go by cillia, so if you ever see someone by that name in a game it's probably me.

Also oh god, I installed fiesta a few months ago just for kicks and it's changed so much. Roumen looks so weird now! Plus they took out so many older maps and just made them quick leveling zones... Also they still never fixed the weird animation movements that popped up when they finally made it so you could run and use skills at the same time .(cleric back breaking etc) c'mon fiesta it's literally been like a decade!

Fr0Z3nWind 05-17-2018 12:14 AM

Hey! Randomly remembered the site and decided to pop back to visit. Really surprised to see everyone here. Time has really passed huh. Hope everyone is doing well. Looks like I was really immature 10 years ago and hope everyone can forgive me.

I remember having fun playing LoL with lirange, blah, ralath...and someone else that plays nasus but can't recall (oh Ivramire, after checking the other thread)....Those were good times, kinda miss it tbh.

As for me, I'm a medical physicist in my last semester of study before I (hopefully) work at a local hospital or doing research in proton therapy for cancer. I still play games once in awhile when time permits, currently on a study break before the semester starts in August so I started playing stardew valley while waiting for a holiday job.

Ralath 05-18-2018 03:26 PM

Wow so many people coming out of the woodwork! How did you guys know to check FF? I got told by Blahs, lol

Medical physicist that wants to cure cancer? NOW THERE'S A SAINT!

No really this is marvelous work! I cannot boast in knowing too much about physics, but I take it you're gonna try using precision proton bombardment (aka radiation) to kill off cancer cells while leaving healthy ones intact? Can you go into details?

As for immaturity, don't fret. Blaahs laughed at penis jokes, her sister wanted to be a couch tester, and as for me, well... This thread. I'm not ashamed to say that I can still squeal in delight after all these years. :cutielove:

Fr0Z3nWind 05-18-2018 10:33 PM

Hmm, I didnt know tbh. I suddenly just got reminded that day and googled if FFan still existed xD

Hahas I highly doubt Im a saint. I wanted to be a vet in the past but Singapore does not have it as a course, you needed to take it overseas (vets in Singapore usually have theirs in Australia). Only recently did we have it (starting next august) in ONE uni and only accepted 15 students.

Yes you are absolutely right.
Hmm, in current clinical radiotherapy we use electron beam and x-ray to treat patients with cancer which tends to have side effects. Proton are much heavier and transfer their energy almost fully upon impact, unlike the previous 2 which continues past the target area and create bremsstrahlung in the patient. What we want to achieve is a double strand break in the DNA of the cancer cell while minimising complications of the cells around it, but of course there is no 100% way to ensure its a double strand break. Fun fact which I was really surprised in my study was that when irradiating a medium/patient, the surface does not have the highest dose, but rather a few cm deep.
Proton therapy does sound better but the machine required for it is massive and the cost of therapy is about 6 times (IIRC) the conventional treatment. Currently Japan has the most machines (of 3). Singapore will get its first in 2022.

Do you all have a discord server or something xD

Hessah 05-24-2018 04:59 PM

Wow I didnt think I'll read medical talk on this forum HAHA

Fascinating read. I still don't understand radiation therapy fully. Whenever I see patients who underwent radiotherapy, I just think of complications and whether I can send them home safely. :urweird:

Big question, marriage/kids? :zomg:

Nope and nope :nahnah: I think I'ma pass on kids. I'm approaching 30 and I still don't feel ready. I think if and when I am, I'll just adopt :cutielove: Been with my current partner for 3 1/2 years, and no sign of marriage yet. No rush, though.

I'm in New York now, though! I was originally in Michigan.

If anyone here has discord and would like to add me:

Don't be afraid of childbirth. Only took my wife 18 hours, a little bit of screaming then about 5 minutes of going totally bananas as well as squeezing my neck. :nahnah:

Ditto ditto. I remember when I was at uni, I was like, right gotta have kids before 30 because the chances of complications increase exponentially after 30..

Now I'm just.. nuh uh. not yet.

But for me it's the responsibility that is daunting hahahaaha

Who said I'm afraid of it? I'm not. I just don't want kids :smarty: If I adopt, it's because the risk of complications increases with age, and plus, we have too many humans on the planet as it is. Adoption is always a noble option.

On a serious note, adoption is a noble commitment. In my line of work, I've seen too many babies born only to be taken away from their mothers (for various reasons). My qualm with the system here in Australia is that adoptive parents have to jump through hoops to prove they're capable parents whereas those who aren't yet fit for parenthood (e.g. current drug addicts) keep reproducing and having their children removed from their care. *sigh* I just made myself mad again. :eep:

My sister is a shining example. She's birthed 10 babies. Doesn't have custody of a single child now. When my nephew Will was born, he was born addicted to crack which resulted in her immediately losing custody of him. Custody was handed over to my parents, and they knew a couple that had been waiting years to adopt, so when my parents were granted full custody, they legit went to her and were like "So um... you want a baby?" They already had custody of 4 of their grandkids, and a 5th was too much to handle.

It was an open adoption, so he's still in contact with all of us :cutielove: he seems like a happy kid, really close with his parents, good relationship with them.

I think my family life is why I feel this way.

I can see where you're coming from. However, don't let that discourage you from having your own child. You're not your sister. At least you kind of know what you're in for and what you must do to raise one. I don't think the patients I've seen were remotely aware of the complex requirements of being good parents. In a way, I don't blame them. They themselves were usually the results of complicated upbringing and their adulthood was the expected evolution of that. I sometimes wish the government implemented some sort of reproductive restrictions on these people but the human rights group would be kicking up a storm. In the end, the babies are the victims of this political correctness. And what does society do for them? Nothing. Seen enough teenagers who are in government custody to know that the system failed them even before they were born.

Congratz on being a dad!

Childbirth is not the scary part, it's the sleep deprevation that follows that's the torture... I only feel more human and like a parent after a year

your line of work sounds emotionally taxing, you must be doing amazing things for our society

Ten? TEN?! :zomg:

Nobody (including your parents!) should judge you for wanting your own kids. I do not know what life circumstances led your sister to this path, but your decision not to have kids but to adopt instead sounds a bit like condemning yourself for her faults.
