Roumen

After having a party voice chat over vent, what struck me was how people pronounce things differently. I would just like to get a feel for what the majority (if there is one) of people believe is the correct pronunciation for Roumen.

Would you pronounce it R-ow-men or Roo-men? Or perhaps something different?

06-18-2008 06:35 PM

Ralath 06-18-2008 06:51 PM

I'm inclined to pronounce the R as an L sound, and Roumen makes me think of noodles.

Pritcher 06-19-2008 03:14 AM

I think "roo-men" is probably right, but I've always said it like "row-main" for some reason even though I'm pretty sure that's wrong it's just how it comes out.

Triumph 06-19-2008 04:47 AM

Grammatically, 'R-ow-men' is correct.

\ˈrau̇-men

Similar to the word 'rout', drop the 't', and add 'men.'

Yes Hessah, I bring technicalities.

As of it's mostly rumen...

(roumen sounds ugly too but this would be similar to row-men.)

Dezza 06-19-2008 11:40 AM

Thanks for all the replies.

I say roo-men, i.e. (kanga)roo-men.

Like the word route, pronounced roo-t. However, it seems that some people (I guess from The United States of America, although I may be wrong) pronounce route differently too. But we won't get into whether the English or the Americans invented the English language

Ivramire 06-19-2008 11:43 AM

May not have been either, my English College Professor said that the English we speak is a derivation of Low Dutch.

The word 'rout,' defined as a "chaotic and disorderly retreat," is closer in accuracy in terms of prefix in this instance, as 'rout' ends in a single consonant while 'route' ends in a consonant and vowel dual combination. Where as 'route' has many possible pronunciations, it is widely accepted that 'rout' is correctly pronounced as \ˈrau̇t\, or r-owt, regardless of nationality.

Sinto 06-19-2008 01:52 PM

Rowmen!!!!

MaxOff 06-19-2008 06:23 PM

i speak like that: Ro-u-men
but when i speak it faster it becomes more rhu-men

All the fiesta names, can be easily pronounced in german

Carmasa 06-19-2008 06:48 PM

I say it R-ow-men.

ROLL THE R, PEOPLE! :D

MAKE IT SOUND GERMAN!
