hyper - your whale link in siggy.

Damn. That makes me sick to my stomach. I guess you could say I'm an animal lover (to the extreme).

I swear I could kill anyone of those people hurting the whales >:@

We got the same problem up here, in Canada. Except with the seals. D:

Sad as hell.

Here's the seal link;

Sero 06-02-2008 11:50 AM

Foreigners who grew up in the ghetto and who's hearts fell down deep in a gutter. Animals.

Ivramire 06-02-2008 12:11 PM

Or people doing jobs.

I don't support animal-cruelty by any stretch of the imagination, but how is that different than cows, pigs and whatever else we kill.

Don't judge/insult too quickly.

Enraya 06-02-2008 12:15 PM

I agree with lvra o:

Just like the seals/whales, don't judge me wrong. I love animals, but there's an extent to what you could do.
I have a friend that's becoming a vegan because she thinks that killing animals are cruel. I think it's cool that she's becoming a vegan, but I don't think she has the right reason for doing it. We're omnivores for a reason o-o Carnivorous fish will always taste better than fish that plainly eat seaweed and stuff. Same goes for humans, we'll always be healthier if we eat meat and kill animals.
See, if you think that's so cruel, what's the difference between that and a wolf hunt?

I don't find it unjust to kill animals. We live in a consumer world. What I think could be improved is the way we kill animals and how much we kill. We don't necessarily need to club them to death~ >w<

Sad? Yeah. But it's life o-o

a.L 06-02-2008 12:16 PM

But it's stuff like that which put animals into risk of extinction. :/

Cows and pigs are bred as livestock, I doubt it's the same for seals. And yeah, beating them with clubs like that is just plain wrong.

Enraya 06-02-2008 12:17 PM

That's why we don't need to necessarily control that we kill them, but rather how much we kill o-o

edit

and in which part of their life.

Ivramire 06-02-2008 12:20 PM

I wasn't really trying to make a point for what and what isn't okay for us to kill or not.

Just saying that people should try to look at it in a different way than they already have. People get upset when seals are clubbed over the head or dolphins are gutted in Japan or wherever. Oh, but it's ok if it happens in our backyards and we're free to label them for things we do ourselves. Because noone cares.

Sero 06-02-2008 01:01 PM

From another similar video I saw, these probably same people are doing it as a "traditional sport" or something like that. Other animals are killed for food, some of these may be killed for the same reason too, but most others aren't.

Ivramire 06-02-2008 01:05 PM

Then protest people who do it for fun.

Just don't condemn when you only have one perspective. o__o

Sero 06-02-2008 01:08 PM

Wow Lvra/wacky/Enra ~ those were 4 fast posts... My last post was a reply to Lvra's in the first page XD

And yeah I was referring to the people I saw in the video... Different races too, so it's happening in many places in the world.

Yes, humans eat meat. Yes, humans have to kill animals to eat that meat. Humans have been doing it since the beginning of time. It is a fact of life.

It is sad. Very sad. I think what makes people so upset, is we don't see the videos of the livestock being slaughtered. That and the fact that these were wild animals that are being killed in their homes. We raise livestock knowing that we are breeding, feeding, and raising them to be killed. It was their purpose when they were brought into the world. Sad life, yes, but that is what they were bred for. The whales, dolphins, and seals are all happily playing in their home, then Wham!!

I am also not against hunting wild animals. If we do not hunt some of the wild game, the animal population becomes overrun and they will starve or contract diseases. But, we have laws here that prevent how mauch you kill in a day and limit hunting to certain times so that the animal population does not dwindle too low. Who are controlling those people? But, on that question, what do we really know about that video. Maybe it is something that only happens once a year and they have to kill enough meat to last them for a year. We do not have all the details.

However, quick in judging, jumping to conclusions, seeing the sensibility behind it: no matter which one of these we fall in, those videos are still sad.

Lady-Loki 06-02-2008 05:31 PM

I choose not to watch the videos because I know what is on them, I have seen similar in the past and don’t care to see it again. But then again, do we know if these people use the meat for food? And isn’t the whale blubber used for heat in those regions? Even if they kill for the skin, is that their source of income? Do we protest alligator killed for skin? What about calfskin wallets? And let’s not forget that deer killed for his rack or that mounted fish on someone’s den wall. The thing is; different cultures view these things differently.

But while these images incite anger there are other atrocities in the way of human rights that are everyday occurrences all over this earth. We don’t have video (thank goodness), but if you search the internet you will find plenty on “Honor Killings” where young girls and women are killed to regain a family’s honor after the victim had been raped, while, in most cases there is no action taken against the rapist.

There are cases where women have actually (and this is within the last 10 – 20 years) been sentenced to be raped as compensation for a crime a different member of her family committed.

And look up information on Afghanistan girls as young as 10 being given into marriage by their fathers to pay a debt to drug traffickers when their poppy crops are destroyed (by man or nature).

And I won’t even get into details on FGM practiced in Somalia (and sadly, even among Somali women living in England).

These women and children are victims for less than meat on someone in the Antarctic’s table or blubber to make oil for lamps and heaters.

I’m not saying I approve of the killing of whales or seals, I’m just saying there are so many other atrocities against women and children on this earth that garner my anger.
