Getting my ass kicked by my first day in the ER
So today was my official first day of med school clerkships, where I was assigned the dreaded pager-that-will-now-control-my-life and my resident threw me into the ER and had me admit patients. Needless to say, treating actual patients is VERY different than reading Harrison's Guide to Internal Medicine, and I got my ass handed to me when I admitted my first patient, a 59 year old lady with a-fib, and I realized how little I know.
I thought I was going to be studying less now that I no longer have lectures, but I guess I was dead wrong. So I'll now have to extend my Fiesta hiatus into a Fiesta AND FiestaFan forums hiatus, which sucks because it's been great fun reading everyone's crazy posts haha. See you guys later! |

Sounds scary. @_@" Good luck!

Well, real life>Fiesta life, at least you can make that choice. Some people seem to choose the opposite.
Well, good luck with your ER work. |
ooh good luck Ulrike. I wish you all the best. I know it takes a lot of patience. But, it will all be worth it in the end.

I don't really know when you're gonna read this and I may be in another field of medicine but I think I know how you feel. In about a month I'll be assigned in the delivery room (maybe in the operating room too), and I'm really, definitely, absolutely sure that it'd be totally nerve-wrecking. It's like, days ago I'm practicing this and that with a partner and the next thing I know I'm slightly crouching in front of a woman in litothomy position, screaming her head off and about to give birth (when half the time I'd like to scream with her too :P).
And yeah, though we think we already know a lot in terms of theory, its amazing when it all goes poof! in the field. So aside from good lucks, do your bests, you can do its, and whatnot, take a second to breathe^-^ THEN show `em what you've got :D |
Slimey says: Good luck!!! *hugs you* ^^

Good luck with your placement. It'll get easier over time and at the end of the day at least you can say you did something that made a difference for someone.
