Quick Grafx Q!

How do you make backgrounds transparent?

I managed to make a basic sig but I can see the white in the background and the FF background is a slightly different color.

I suppose I can color the background the same but it would be better if it was transparent.

When editing the image in the program or w/e you're using, make sure the background on the document is transparent, and when saving it, save it as a png.

=3= I wish I knew that.

Ivramire 05-18-2008 05:13 AM

ahh, looks like I have to do it over again .__o

Kitager 05-18-2008 05:14 AM

What program are you using?
I know Photoshop has the option of making your canvas transparent the moment you start the program, or thereabouts. Post what you're using and we'll see whats up :D

Ivramire 05-18-2008 05:17 AM

Paint.Net for the layering/cutting/pasting and PhotoFiltre for post-editing and text.

Awesome combo.

Kitager 05-18-2008 05:23 AM

Wow lol
I've never used it but is it anything like Photoshop?

**OFF TOPIC**

Nice render of Metarex btw :D

Ivramire 05-18-2008 05:28 AM

I wouldn't know lol, never used PS

I have seen it compared to it though o__.

Kitager 05-18-2008 05:36 AM

Hmm. Well, lets try to break this down.

- Is there any option on the menu bar for editing a canvas color?
- Is there an option to remove all colors from the canvas?

If there isn't then I'll d/l it tonight and tell you how to do in the morning :D

Ivramire 05-18-2008 06:23 AM

Made the background transparent but didn't work o.o

EDIT- I think when I upload to a hosting-site, it saves as a JPG. Maybe that's it.

Esen 05-18-2008 08:20 AM

Not sure why it doesn't work. o-o You can also try matching the sigarea bg with the image. Can you make the background #FBFBFB in the thing you are using?

Ivramire 05-18-2008 08:36 AM

If I don't look too hard, I don't see the contrast lol.

^Nah I can't do that.

Enraya 05-18-2008 09:40 AM

Wait, I'm invading lvra's thread o-o

Kay's tip, #FBFBFB works on this forum, but when I put it on the official forums it goes back to being white =O= why's that? LOL

how you use it here? o-o

Enraya 05-18-2008 10:19 AM

I use Photoshop, so it's in the program first o-o

Esen just do this: Start a new project with a transparent BG do whatever you are going to do and when you are done save it as a png file all done and all transparent :3.

Esen 05-19-2008 01:04 AM

@En: #FBFBFB is a like an.. off-white, that's why. xD I don't don't know the hex code for the color of the official boards.

Pure white = #FFFFFF
Solid black = #000000
and that's all i know by heart. xD

@Teq: I know, you can do that, but transparents seem to fail in IE. x_X And it's just less of a hassle for me considering the only site I use transparent sigs is on FF.

Ivramire 05-19-2008 09:22 AM

ugh, I didn't want to start a new thread. We really need a stickied thread where we (mostly I) can get random GFX questions answered. The really long sig/ava comment thread is defunct?

It's really weird but when I try to put text on ^, the program either freezes or crashes. Don't really think any1 knows how to solve that, but does anyone got any text I can use?

+Tequila+ 05-19-2008 11:27 PM

hmm you are using Paint or something right? You may need to reinstall or it could be a problem with the font itself I had a problem with a font file and my photoshop a while back I had to go and delete that font and redownload it then reinstall it.

Ivramire 05-19-2008 11:31 PM

yeah, I was thinking to re-install it, seems to be the most obvious thing to do.

It'll be a pain tracking down all the add-ons I installed though -.-

Is it a specific font thats make it do that? You could probably fix it by deleting the font.

Ivramire 05-19-2008 11:34 PM

It's anytime I bring up the text tool, thinking maybe there was a bugged text-related add-on but I don't know which, so I guess I'll just re-install.

+Tequila+ 05-19-2008 11:39 PM

hmmm you should just get photoshop. I have something that could help with that lolz.

Okay if that's what you mean then usually I duplicate the sig into a new layer, hide the original layer (just makes it easier to do the next bit) and erase everything but the image you wanna enlarge. And then I just enlarge the pic that way. And then I just touch up the backgrounds/enlarged image to make it look like it fits together (and probably edit the original sig layer since you might see the smaller original stock still there).

But um, you're not using photoshop right? Do they have layer stuff in the program you're using?

-reads previous post- You're using just paint? Like MS Paint? D:

I guess you can do the same thing but have two paint tabs up. But I think enlarging/shrinking images in Paint mucks up the quality... @_@"
