Moronic Behaviors Toward GM
 

Today I was setting up my shop in Elderine after a day of accomplishing nothing as usual and witnessed some very rude behaviors toward [GM]SilkyPico. Silky was simply doing her job overseeing that the GM Guild War event proceed smoothly, and players (have a few names, but won't mention them) started harassing her on purpose, calling her names and asking ridiculous questions along with rants/complaints of the GM "picking on the weak" (why would these "weak" people declare war on the GM to be "picked on"), with no sign of it being a joke whatsoever. The conversation turned the event into a flame war with the odds lopsided in the morons' favor (outnumbers Silky several to one). The misbehaving players asked Silky overtly obvious/idiotic questions alike with the intention to inflict emotional damage (at least from my perspective), with constant comparisons between Dakkon & Silky being made with the intent to portray her as the inferior GM. Aside from that the players were also shouting in all caps demanding the location of Silky to they could "kill" her (in a manner more similar to a threat than to what we normally thought of as pk during GMGW). From my personal experience I find absolute no fault in Silky. Silky's always done her job well and understands her duties as a GM (even better a a lot of other GMs), if anything should be her fault it would be choosing to serve a load of idiots on Apoline and not giving in to their ridiculous demands. :mad::mad::mad:

Those idiots should be banned from the game to make it a more peaceful place imo, after all they're the same ks'ers/abyss room hijackers/scammers/etc. etc. I've seen in Apoline.....

When it comes to guild wars, some peoples tactics is flaming... it makes people want to come after them. And when it comes to GMs... everyone is "weak". I don't think Silky would take it personally, or let it effect her.

The thing is.... after numerous threats/flames she simply went afk on her char. Not saying anything anymore...... I'd guess she's pretty upset by that point.

I'm surprised that came from Apoline.. i thought Apoline is meant to have the best community or something?

I think one of the criteria to be a GM is to have endless amount of patience...

Those people were being sooo annoying. I had to block the person whose name contains an oat because he just kept saying the same thing. Over. And over. And over. And over. And over again.

And then I kept hoping the other person who has three repeating numbers in his name would get sent to jail... >.>

Personally, I liked all the Legendary Trees that she spawned because that actually meant I got to participate since I was in Shift+Z all the time and I can actually see mobs in Shift+Z.

But yeah. How does comparing Silkypico to Dakkon even make any sense? Players only know the image that the GMs project in the game. It's not like they actually associate with the GMs or anything. They used to in the times of Steam or whatever but now, the GMs just show up to host events.

Well don't forget, they're also doing other stuff. Its their job, I seriously don't think they'd let idiots like that ruin their day.

But yeah. I agree with Yosei. I think they're experienced enough with the internet and MMORPGs to not let stupid flaming by tweens bother them.

yeah well, we cant really do anything about those ppl talking crap.. and we could probably only guess wat Silky might feel...

maybe all we can do is tell Silky that we DO appreaciate her work, to counter the effect~

Despite my wish to agree with you I'd say people aren't perfect, and we all have a certain level of tolerance that may be exceeded... As referring to a reply earlier.. yes a criteria for being a GM is the ability to socialize and tolerate misbehaviors, but I'd think we shouldn't take it for granted to throw whatever phrases we want simply because its the job of a GM to take certain amounts of insults. Nobody wants to have their jobs made more difficult.... and I certainly don't think Silky is any different....

I was hiding in my shop while the rocks fly overhead; and btw Lulong (if I'm not mistaken), we've met many times on my experimental puppets. =D

Edit: our encounter dates back to your level 30 "mob bouncing" days in MT. =D =D

I've talked to Silky before and she's a tough person. She doesn't put up with peoples shit, just like how a GM shouldn't.

Eh, if this kind of behavior continues, soon one or more of the GMs will quit.

I don't think the GMs would quit because of the players. We're only a part of their job. Its not their job just to please us and play with us, and its probably in their code to not get effected emotionally.

I think they get annoyed when people don't do what they're supposed to.

Well. What I mean by that is I've seen Dakkon project irritation when people don't follow directions or whatever. Like for the Hunt the Leprechaun Event, he got kind of annoyed by all the people entering who didn't have the Clover.

But hopefully they are past online flaming and being active in the game is only a part of their whole job.

Well yeah, anyone can get annoyed. But to get offended by insults is another thing.

Does anyone from Apoline by chance know Jo******5 ? He was shot down by Silky today and I think he totally deserved it x).

Steam was frustrated by so many players when he was flamed, harrased, and spammed at, so he canceled the EXP event, then that's the last I heard of him

That doesn't mean thats why he doesn't work for Outspark anymore.

This is the first exhibit of Epith-like behavior I've ever seen from Apoline. Pretty amazing. You must be pretty drugged out to think you can take on a GM (or cause them problems) in an MMO. Kind of at a loss of words...

I like Silky though. Hopefully those idiots won't lead to her taking an early retirement...

I don't know him because I think he's always been higher levelled than me. But I've seen him before.

And Hessah, you though Apoline had the best community? Well, it did, till it went to the top of the list for a brief period of time before Epith. Any server that goes to the top of the list has these things happen to it:

1. It's economy is ruined. Prices go up crazily.
2. A large influx of n00bs (note that I say n00bs not newbs, it's only natural that a new player picks the first server on the list). Unfortunately, 85% of newbs are n00bs.

I think one thing that gets lost in translation so to speak, is that alot of the players who do stuff like this are very young age wise. I'm in the older group of players and have been playing video games since the invention. I notice that most of the players I have been around that do alot of really dumb things like shouting (all caps) or obscenities spelled out in a way the we can read them are 15 and under. I think we tend to forget about that and don't associate behavior with age. The older players most of whom post in forums and keep up with current events are not quite as Immature.

I would hope the GM's don't lose track of this. It's really not the young ones fault it's just the way the majority of them are now a days. "/

As for the older ones acting like idiots, Some people just can't be helped. lol

As for silky being afk, she was probably using a terminal to spawn those annoying trees! lol or whispering and/or blocking. I can imagine she does quite a bit more than just roam around and chat. :)

I remember that when ppl went on the date a GM thing, they asked the GM to spawn something.. and he took a while to get the thing spawning, I have a feeling they might have a big list to go through to find wat they want XD

yeah, we can only guess how old someone is with the things they say.... its too easy to hide behind the computer and pretend to be a 10 yr old... (no offence to those mature 10 yr olds...)

Hey I'm only 15, and I don't speak in all caps or shout at GMs, and I keep up with the forums. But of course I'm sure you were generalising, and it is the sad truth that most of the people are young people who can't...well they can't.

Silky=She

In the Baby Dragon/Legendary Tree event in Elderine in Teva the other day, I remember there was this person named &@$^*#^$&&^*@^$*#&$. There was this guy who complained in shout that his computer was lagging. Silky then replied that it's normal. Another guy shouted saying "Why don't GMs ever lag?" Silky replied once again, this time saying "Because GMs have gaming computers." This person &@$^*#^$&&^*@^$*#&$ has already been making trouble in shout, saying malicious stuff [and to think she was a girl, no problem if it were me :D] and was given a warning. Anyways right after Silky replied, &@$^*#^$&&^*@^$*#&$ then said "who the fuuuuuukckckckckckckckck cares?!" Silky said "Alright, done. Everyone say goodbye to &@$^*#^$&&^*@^$*#&$". We said goodbye, she still kept swearing and after a few seconds she became silent :) JAILED XDDDDDDDDDD boy was &@$^*#^$&&^*@^$*#&$ OWNED XD after that event as usual there were treasure chest spawns [that's where I snatched a Slime :D] Many others complained they didn't get anything... I was among the very few who were appreciative and thanked Silky for everything =\ imagine what she felt knowing there are many others unappreciative... :( T_T Well all those others can suck my big *%#&$^#(&%$(&^*$!!! I felt like doing Inferno to all of them for being mean >=O but I'm no mage, I ain't 67 either ._.
