When in German reading...

if you see the letters "i" and "e" touching each other...

then you have to pronounce the second one with the appropriate long vowel sound.

Most of the time I say Fee-no though.

Fy-no since it has two vowels, the first one is long. So its Fy-no. "i" makes "i" sound.
