Mod Entering Siggy Contest Poll
Before deciding anything we wanted to know everyones opinion. Should the mods be allowed to enter the signature contest? We want to see what you guys think first because we don't want any hard feelings. But before deciding heres some facts..
1. We don't decide who wins, you guys do!(via vote) 2. We do see every entry. So its up to you guys. |
I've never seen any staff member to be able to participate in any event of this kind in my whole life. prople will say it was forged if a mod wins, people will say the mod didn't win just so people wouldn't complain, and stuff like that \;
in the end I guess it all comes down to how serious you want people to take this :P staff being able to enter = whee-whoo let's all have fun because there's never been anything serious about this ! |
If there happens to be a staff who doesn't want to participate... you can get everyone to send it to them isntead of those joining? I think it'd be great if the mods join too. It happens in SoTW so why not here too? :3
But I do understand that 'problem' with it... though personally I don't care. |
Great idea Loveless. I do not plan on entering, so if the vote is that the mass majority will accpet the mods participating, then everyone can send their entries to me. Not sure if fullback will make a siggy or not, i'll have to check with him.
So, that might work. |
Well... Mods don't choose...
3:5 mods have insane Photoshop skill, but so do certain members... Eh, I don't care, since I won't enter. |
Well, knowing the mods, i'm sure they wont rig anything.. (well maybe except for fullback HAHA)
if possible, set up the poll so that we can see who voted wat, so there's evidence to back up that every vote was made by a real user... but i realy dont think it matters... the mods here can be trusted! (is the 2nd question now whether mods are allowed to vote? keke) |
I think that as long as the name of the siggy maker is NOT shown and the name of the person who votes for each siggy IS shown then there should be no issue of rigged. No one can say the vote was just because someone was or was not a mod and everyone can see that there are X number of names for X numbers of votes so not vote count was inappropriately elevated.
I vote to let mods enter if it is handled as above but I want that clarified and confirmed before I click the tick. |
This is the way we were discussing doing it, if ya'll vote for mods to join. Since, I will not be entering a siggy, send all siggies to me. When I create the poll, it will not have the name of WHO created the siggy so that you do not know who you are voting for. However, you will be able to see what member voted for what siggy. It was also talked about that Mods cannot vote. <--- not sure if that one was set in stone yet or not. But, you will be able to see who voted for what siggy, you just will not know whose siggy you are voting for.
|
we've only got 5 mods and a bigger bunch of normal users... 5 mods / 5 votes wont make a huge difference... IMO
|
I say let the mods vote too.
|
I say no.
Not that I wish to exclude them, but it's highly likely that each mod has probably already received one or two signature submissions, which would throw the anonymity of the signature contest out the window. |
is the anonymity that important? =/

To your penultimate post, Hessah: Keep in mind that there may be ~2,800 members, but how many of them would actually vote? |
Well, I'm thinking that if they entered and the voting is anonymous then they most likely would cast a vote for their own entry since they considered it worthy of entry.
But, even if they see another they think looks better they would choose it since, as I understand it, this is the siggy they will use on other forums for themselves and I can't see them voting a less appealing siggy just to vote the person if it is the one they WILL be using themselves. |
well i knew we wont even get 50 ppl voting... based on SOTW evidence..there's usually 20-30 votes... so mod votes are dont dominate...
hmm i would think that as long as all votes are not bias, then isnt that the priciple we're trying to achieve? i dont think any mod would be bias... but... yeah hahah doesnt matter i've casted my vote! |
Probably would've been best if this vote was made before submissions were made and whatnot.
|
Anonymity is important. Too many people on here would vote yes for somebody just to suck-up to their e-popularity, I fear.
|
Yes, everyone should get a chance to do something
|
but not everyone would know who submitted wat....
we were talking about the anonymity not kept from a few mods coz they may hv received a submission.... i dont think the mods will vote yes to suck up for e-popularity.... (righty might though.. hm... HAHAHA) if that's a problem them maybe mods can submit and not vote...? (i think spirit said mods are considering not allowed to vote anyway so many that's not an issue) |

The FiestaFan events are to encourage activity and a good community feeling here on the forums. Since a few members do have problems with the mods entering and it was the original plan for mods not to enter, we do not won't to cause any animosity amongst members. Therefore, the poll is now closed and it will stand as it is now. Mods will not be allowed to enter the contest.
We thank everyone for giving their opinions andbeing honest in their responses. So, now everyone needs to go make a siggy and enter the contest!!!!!!!!!!!! |
:/ The overwhelming majority voted yes. I haven't been around in a while so I didn't get a chance to vote, but I'd have voted yes too. I think the mods should be able to enter the same as any other member. The more entries the better in my opinion, but whatever.
A bit off-topic, but relevant. I actually don't like that, "I don't care", option in polls because it gives indecisive people an easy way out. If people really didn't care they wouldn't vote at all, if they care enough to vote then decide which side of the fence you want and hop over. |
