Turn off the stupid NoSpam question thing.

Greetings.

As the topic says, I request that you remove the idiotic 'NoSpam' question from the forum search page. Image verification is enough - and this thing sometimes asks stupid questions that not anybody would know.

And it asks what you put in a car to make it 'go'. The obvious answer is petrol. FAIL. Okay, 'Petrol'? FAIL. Er... Then I rememebered Americans often think they're the only people that exist in this world (no offense, I've met a few nice ones, but in my experience most have been like that), and used the American word.

Just a minor request, it's a bit annoying. Thanks.

I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about...

O.o

It stops bots, I believe.

Sheapy 07-27-2007 04:29 AM

I thought that answer to what makes a car go is oil >_>

Ghinx 07-27-2007 04:48 AM

Yea, seriously, it said to me
Whats 3+3?
Everyone knows that, except maybe Preschoolers, Really Old People or just stupid people, bots , WILL get passed it, one way, or another.

Sheapy 07-27-2007 05:01 AM

Bots wouldn't know how to answer that question though. They wouldn't search up the answer to "what makes a car go".

Blaaaaaaaah 07-27-2007 05:45 AM

Sorry, what are you guys talking about? -Lost- I've never seen those questions...

When you register now, it asks you a random question. Ex. "What's the first letter in the word No?". It prevents bots.

Blaaaaaaaah 07-27-2007 07:48 AM

Ohh. Well I reckon there's nothing wrong with that. I agree with it if it's to stop bots, they're annoying as hell. Besides, you would only need to answer them once, unless you like making multiple accounts on a forum for some reason.

tehfusion 07-27-2007 02:15 PM

No, actually it asks you every time you do a forum search when not logged in. I do searches all the time, as it's the best way to quickly find information. It's a hassle having to log in every time just to do one quick search.

Anyway, it's not that crucial, but it's annoying, and doesn't seem to serve any purpose. The image verification already stops bots.

I'm not sure how long the image verification has been there (Can't remember if I had to do one or not), but we already had alot of bots.

Destrus 07-27-2007 07:33 PM

apparently the image verification doesn't stop all bots since on another forum that i know has image verification it still gets bots every once and a while

Niion 07-27-2007 08:18 PM

the questions pwn.

And I thought it was a key that made the car go?

Why don't you stay logged in permanently? Just click the "Remember me" button.

Keetos 07-27-2007 10:58 PM

Some advanced bots are able to get past image verification. I recently implemented this system in the registration to stop them once and for all.

It was not made to be part of search. Sorry about that, will be removed from search queries.

Lol I think the correct answer would be a key but there are multiple things that make a car run.

Keetos 07-27-2007 11:02 PM

Ok it should be removed from search now. And I did add petrol, oil and key as correct answers for the car question.

If it's advanced enough to get past that, I'm sure it'd be able to read the displayed question and give the correct answer, since there's a very short list of questions.

Thanks!

i was giving what the answer probably was before he added the rest and i bet i was right.. he either put gas or gasoline or both. and unless they want their bot on this forum really bad i don' tthink they'd have it set up to answer the questions just to sign up to these forums.

Actually bots nowadays are designed to get past the image verification so they get through most Invision and vBulletin boards. The only way they can get past the Q&A is if the bot developer programmed it to be able to answer the specific answers for this forum. That would take some effort and I can also decide to change the Q&A to stop the bot again.

Centrix 08-27-2007 03:59 PM

Trust me, its not smart to remove that.

There are a lot of bots on the internet searching for sites and forums to crash or spam.

If you dont have image verification some bots with register on your forum and make hundreds of spam topics to viagra sites and stuff like that. (and since they are bots they make those threads pretty fast...)

If you dont have image verification in search some bots with search a few hundred times a second to crash your server.

So, its smart to keep it.
