[Fiestafan]Cracking Down on Spam

The mods have been discussing it and we think this place is getting a little too spammy.
So... we are going to start cracking down on the threads a little more. For the time being, the method we see best is making a new thread, and then merge all of the spammy posts from the previous thread into the new thread, which will always be found in the Mountain of Spam section. Thus you can continue your spammy discussion, confusion free!
Like blahs has said in the past, you guys might think we're being a bit up-tight. We're not trying to be, we're just trying to keep this place a little more organized. We could also really use everyones help. If you see a thread moving off topic and getting spammy, please PM a moderator with a link to the thread.

If there are any questions, ask here or PM any of the moderators.

LMAO

Yeah, I kinda felt like some people were just posting stuff to increase post count, at least it seemed like since there post just said what others had already said but without any personal opinion

Lady-Loki 02-18-2008 04:38 PM

Spam = lots of crap that doesn't apply?

OT = one or two post that also include some sort of OT disclaimer?

I ask coz we tend to go OT a good bit also.

Spam is epidemic, but OT happens more like an occasional head-cold, so I ask.

Yosei 02-18-2008 04:40 PM

Going off topic counts as spam too.

iDerrick 02-18-2008 04:45 PM

But, isn't going off topic what makes this forum so fun?

Yosei 02-18-2008 04:46 PM

Thats what MoS is for! You can go off topic all you want on there ^^

Zwivix 02-18-2008 04:55 PM

When will a topic be moved to the MoS. I mean after how many pages of spam?

Or how is this really gonna work. Would necroposting also be considered spam?!

Yosei 02-18-2008 05:19 PM

Mods have the ability to yoink posts from a thread and move them to another thread. When we move them, we have the option to make a new thread, or move them to an existing thread.
As for necroposting, we just close the thread.

Zwivix 02-18-2008 05:24 PM

Oh okay. Cool.

Lady-Loki 02-18-2008 05:32 PM

Yeah, see I would have defined Spam as a series of posts that have no purpose in general - just lots of back & forth that basically hi-jacked the thread and made it too full of junk for anyone to even care to follow anymore.

Whereas OT is generally one or two comments that did not serve to hi-jack the entire thread but were just more like "Oh and BTW ..." kinda things.

I guess best prevention is to be sure if we have an OT comment to make that we have the thread in subject commented on also.

Hey... this is only seen as good in my eyes!

At least you are keeping the thread open for discussion, just moving the location.

Not like those crazy CL's on the offical forums! They just up and close the thread if they don't like what you said.

Spirit 02-18-2008 05:43 PM

We try not to close threads unless it is necro'ed or in direct violation to ToS or our rules. If it is something that we can edit and let the conversation continue, we prefer to do that.

We're not moving the entire thread. We're just taking out the posts that have nothing to do with the thread.

Like.. for instance, lets say we're discussing Giant Goblin King, and how he always pwns our butts. Then someone comes in and asks how to buy a new colored house.

Hm...
