skills
what skills should i upgrade. when i say skills i mean like magic missile, ice bolt and that stuff. Anyways, i have one in everything (ice bolt, fire bolt, and lightning) but 2 in magic missile. Is that ok? This is only one of my questions. Heres the other
How should i upgrade my skills? like which ones should i upgrade and by how much. Im a lvl 8 mage going with full int built. Thnx:) |
Hihi. First, I think the best build is 25 in SPR and all the rest in INT. I also think that is the opnion of most of the mages on this forum.
As for skills go, it dpends. A lot of us live off our our MM1, so I put 5 points inot cooldown and 5 points to increase power of Magic Missile. If you look in the wiki under mages, there is some really good advice on whixh skills to empower and how. Also, if you go to the Guides section of the forum, Yosei recently made a guide for mages and it has some great advice with her build and her skill empowerments listed. I'll try to find you the link. from reading all of these posts, I think the most popular selection is up to you, but most lower the casting time for magic missle, but keep it at level 1.
Some people max out fire, and ice, and then rotate magic missle, fire, magic missle ice, ect. It is some times worth increasing the damage to fire, but not ice, ice is only good with decreasing the sp. I know my mage is going to do something similar to that. |
I maxed out damage to MM and Fire, but now I'm wishing that I had spent some of them decreasing the cool time.

think about it this way, maxing it out might give you 1.5X, but doubling the speed will give you 2x damage in that same time more or less.
Kinda like why alot of people like to use two swords rather than one big one. (in general) |
1. Max out cooltime on MM.
2. Max out dmg on MM. 3. Max out dmg on Fire. - This should let you CONSTANTLY ping critters w/ lvl 1 MM and Fire while the tank takes the dmg. 4. If you prefer solo, max dmg on lightning and consider lowering SP use on ice. 4.a. If you prefer AOE parties, max cooltime and then dmg on magic burst. 5. Save your remaining points for your l49+ spells. |

They are much better than the skills you get at 50+. |
Nice corrections Spirit, you are correct. I ended up taking all points off lightning and ice. I maxed out Magic blast dmg and sp decrease. Now i've got 3 fast attack high dmg spells (burst, blast and mm) for solo or Aoe. Now i just need a few more points to max up dmg and sp decrease on burst.

Damage on magic missile? I don't know if its really worth it. I mean, in the long run, it might not be. I debated on that on BK, I was just messing around with my points, I think it did like 12 extra dmg fully empowered. Then again, to each their own. There is no certain way to empower your skills. Theres magic missile, firebolt(damage), magic burst(SP and cooldown), magic blast(SP and/or damage), nova frost(SP), and inferno(SP) you have to empower.

So, you do not think that max Dmg on MM is worth it? Do you also spam your MM1 or do you use the highest level of MM that you have?

I use both mm1 and highest lvl of MM depending on the situation I'm in. In parties I use MM1 but for solo I use the highest tier of MM to deal massive dmg at once. Here's my attack order with highest tier of MM: ice/MM/lightning/fire/MM then run while MM is cooling down, and usually the monster is slowed by ice then MM them again, better than standing there dueling with them using tier 1 MM and if it's last blow you can add in burst to finish it off on the spot. With maxed dmg it adds around 210-230 dmg(can't remember exact number). I can usually solo more harkan without resting than the mage that went and use mm1 and tank the thing XD. I can usually get out of it without a scratch O,OV

i got max dmg on fire and MM. full cool on MM and sp decrease on a lot.
I wish i had spread out the MM cool down over to fire. But i am EXTREMELY happy with my skills |
Yeah, when i solo i use MM(max) and with the extra dmg on there it's really a hoss. Level 1 spells are strictly for partying in my opinion. I'm actually thinking about taking my SP decrease off magic blast and transferring it to extra dmg on magic burst (aoe spell).
Yosei, my questions for you is which of the l60+ spells are useful? Could you give us a few comments as to which spells are good are which suck? If they all have the 0.9 sec casting time it seems like you'd give up your range advantage 'cause the moster is breathing down your neck by the time you get 2 spells off. |
