Why do we call them mobs?
Ok.. so I know what a mob is... but I'm not sure why we called them mobs instead of monsters, or anything else.
My guess is that because often times we find ourselves fighting more than one monster and therefore it is easier to call the collective group a "mob." How close am I? |

A mob is an acronym for mobile object. It was derived from early video games, aka MUDs, which had three components: mobiles, objects, and rooms. Mobiles could be aggressive, and could be attacked and could move from room to room.

Cool, now I can tell my friend why we call it a mob next time I talk to him. I still remember him asking "Why are you calling it a mob? Shouldn't it be mons or something!?" LOL.
