I'm seriously getting tired of my niece talking down to me and not listening to me.
Scene:
Aryana(niece):*walks in* turn on cartoons.
Katie(me): Thats not how you ask for cartoons.
Aryanna: I.want.CARTOONS ON!
Katie: Um, no, not when you're asking like that..
Aryanna: I want cartoons on!
Katie: Excuse me, how do you ask for things?
Aryanna: Cartoons PLEASE!
Katie: thats better, but I'm watching a movie, not right now.
Aryanna: I want cartoons on!
Katie: I already told you no.
Aryanna: you dumb!

What should I do <.< This is the same routine every frickin night and day.
I can't exactly go to my parents, they're like "Just turn cartoons on for her so she'll be quiet. She can't watch cartoons anywhere else in the house."

She is testing you and it depends on what she already knows that she can get away with. You have to remember that you are the adult and she is the child. You cannot lower yourself to their level. You tell her that you said no, and that is how it is goin gto be and after you finish your movie then she can watch cartoons. Do not back down or give in, because then she knows if she keeps pushing you that you will give in. And if she keeps on, tell her that you have to restart yuor movie now, because she was distracting you, so now she has to wait even longer to watch cartoons.

You have to let them know that you are the boss and what you say goes. Otherwise, they learn rather quickly who they can control by their actions.

And depending on your beliefs, you can always tear their asses up if they misbehave to bad. My mother tore my butt up all the time and I survived. My child knows if I ever get to the number 3 in a countdown, that he will have his butt tore up. Now, all I have to do is say "1" and even at 11 he jumps into action.

My parents spank, I just smack on the hands or thigh, but thats only if they're really being bad.
After I posted this she starting chanting "I want cartoons! I want cartoons!"But I just ignored her. She's stopped now. I usually just tell her how its going to be. I was in the room watching a movie first, she didn't ask right, so shes going to have to wait and if she has a problem with it, then to suck it up. But she does it every night, and its getting kind of annoying.

Repitition. Kids repeat, so we have to also. Until they get tired of it.

Well, I wouldn't full blown hit a kid. I smack. And yes, blackmail is nice. I always tell them "If you don't listen I'm going to tell papa(my dad) what you were doing, and then you'll regret it!" And they're usually like "Nooo! I'll listen! ;3;"

Just do what was done to us when we were kids. For instance when I would get in trouble, they tend to ground me and take away my playstation or internet access. Maybe if you took something away from the kids, they'd behave?

Well there isn't much to take away from a 4 year old. She doesn't go out and play(its all snowy here). She doesn't have any friends yet, we recently moved here, she doesn't exactly play with her toys that much, but she does color a lot. And yeah, she likes to watch cartoons.

Boo 4chan reference. My dad does something similar, he'll grab it and make he buckle jingle to make it sound like hes getting it and coming after then and then they'll take off and listen lol.

Lol I think ill try the get belt/listen thing on my lil cousin next time he misbehaves lol. But nah seriously, whenever my lil cousin or nephew would misbehave when I'm babysitting, I get a belt, problem solved. Works every time lol.

man i dont have kids but i am afraid when i do get them when i was small i had ADHD i still have it btw i now its not easy to raise kids my sister has to kids and just looking at them i see how hard it is

My idea is to a few mins before she appears at the house get a kitchen knife and put ketchup on it. when she asks for cartoons get it out and glare evilly at her. Its how I got my cousain to stop ripping up my drawings at my house
