Heh, get rid of the hand that feeds 'em.

Valentines 12-10-2007 08:42 PM

They need to start figuring out a way to remove them for good.

Zwivix 12-10-2007 08:49 PM

Yea, casue I seem the bots advertising. Then I had Dakkon kick them all. Less than 3 min later they had new accounts doing it again.

I told him they should ban their IP's!!

Pritcher 12-10-2007 08:51 PM

I always assumed that this was the case. Isn't using sites like that always a bannable offense in games? It's very hard to actually catch someone using a service like those and the people that use those sites probably won't be affected by a nearly empty threat of being banned.

Can't any action be taken against the actual sites? It's not like they're super secret spots or anything they spam the url 50 times a minute in every town.

Zwivix 12-10-2007 08:55 PM

Lol, true, but I think they cant get any actual evidence to get the sites banned. Actually I would think it to be hard to get a site banned, since they have their own business, you cant just shut someone's business down becasue you dont like it. (That's probably some loop-hole they have or something like that).

Oh well if they could do something they would be the first MMO to have solved the problem ^^

Izanagi 12-10-2007 09:09 PM

We can track gold income. If yesterday you had 10silver, and the next day you have 600 silver, we sorta figure out what is up.

Pritcher 12-10-2007 09:11 PM

Ahh, I never thought of that one. Awesome then, start doing mass bans and then people probably will get the message. That's a lot to check though. Is there some sort of automatic alert system that can let you know if someone's in-game silver jumps suddenly?

Hessah 12-10-2007 09:13 PM

hopefully ur system will automatically flag accounts like that!

would be hectic to hv to go through each account and see if someone has miracally gotten rich~

Zwivix 12-10-2007 09:15 PM

But that doesnt solve the Powerleveling problem does it...

Unless we catch the people actually doing it, there really is no way to get rid of that, right?

Hessah 12-10-2007 09:18 PM

would that be like botting? so they hook u up with a higher lvl bot and plvl u...?

coz how would they separate whether it's frds plvling each other, or ppl paid to get plvled...?

Izanagi 12-10-2007 09:18 PM

Because this is a public forum I am not giving our methods away in case people try to work around them, suffice to say, we have our ways of tracking all of this that we have now implemented.

Spirit 12-10-2007 09:18 PM

Okays, but here is where it can get tricky. I traded the GG event Crossbow to my son's account and let his character set up and sell it for 100 silver, then I traded just that 100 silver back to my account to give to the guild for the event.
My account got 100 silvers richer (even though the money is not actually mine, it is the guilds). So, how do you know if it is a legit trade or not?
And when I give whoever in the guild the 200 silvers for the guild events, their account just became 200 silvers richer, but it is a legit trade.

Zwivix 12-10-2007 09:20 PM

Oh never thought of that. Good point ^^

I guess they have their ways as Iza said.

But sometimes people can get a hold of a nice item. For instance, an Elderine ring. People will pay gold for that ring. Can you take track of stuff like.. what we've obtained, from who or what, and who we sell it to, etc?
I think in some cases it could be considered hard to determine.

SunUrBuns can make 300s in a half an hour... by selling Xirs.

Izanagi 12-10-2007 09:24 PM

Again, that is only a brief description of ONE method we have, I am not going to go into more detail to prevent anyone from working around us.

Pritcher 12-10-2007 09:25 PM

Yeah, I think that's what Spirit was saying. How to determine legit trades vs gold buying? Oh well, just hope they have a plan for, lol.

At the very least public announcements like that might help discourage some from trying to use the services. Even if it was a straight bluff it can serve a purpose.

I really hope you guys get a handle on it though, good luck in your endeavors.

Zwivix 12-10-2007 09:26 PM

[off topic]On a side note. Do any other GM's have accounts on FF. Casue I asked Dakkon once if he would make an account on here. You know since your pretty cool to hang out here. But I dont know if he made one or do all the GM's just lurk around..[/off topic]

Izanagi 12-10-2007 09:27 PM

I don't think they do, monitoring IRC channels and fan sites has pretty much always fallen under my dominion.

Spirit 12-10-2007 09:29 PM

Haha, hey Pritcher, you wanna take this 200 silver off my hands. :D.
But, seriously, I do hope that they have a way, because Bla~ahs also has a decent amount of silver to give, so it is a known fact already that whoever is the money holder, their account is going to get at least several hundred silvers richer in one day, with no items being traded for the money.

OT: Steam, did you get my PM about the Apoline link to the weekly events not working?

Zwivix 12-10-2007 09:29 PM

Omg I forgot about IRC. You got a channel, whats the name of it?

Yeah, but can you moniter what goes on in the Private guild forums? Or are you limited like a normal user?

Zwivix 12-10-2007 09:32 PM

Nope he can't he isnt part of any membergroups...Oh then you better ask to get into all of them.

You never know what the other guild might be plotting, lol. Not G____G, were the nice guys ^^

Izanagi 12-10-2007 09:34 PM

If I need to know what goes on in those private channels I ask the mods, as Outspark sanctions FiestaFan, they will probably tell me to avoid having an Outspark mod angry with them for witholding information I want.

Spirit 12-10-2007 09:37 PM

KK - so no plotting against Iza-noggin in the GG thread anymore.:D (jk).

Zwivix 12-10-2007 09:38 PM

Oh no, we dont want a mod angry on our hands...

Oh no he's turning green!! Omg run its the Hulk....

Omg then just a heads up please dont mind my post on gettting Iza...

-hides in a corner-
"Yosei warned me"..."Why didnt I listen!!"

Well I went from having like 15 silver once to like 100+ or something, because lilian snuck it into our trade once D; But yea..

One thing that kind of made me raise a brow was that this was the first game I've seen so infested with bots like that. o_o I mean, doesn't it have some kind of protective service? lol

Zwivix 12-10-2007 10:08 PM

Get gameguard! That might help a little, but then they'll be more connection problems when the gameguard doesnt work...

Pritcher 12-10-2007 10:16 PM

I know lots of people bitch about it but I've never had any trouble with GameGuard. If it could remove the bots, or even reduce them, I'd even be willing to dc every now and then.

Hessah 12-10-2007 10:21 PM

should i not go around buffing random people in case they wanna take my account to "showoff"?

Zwivix 12-10-2007 10:23 PM

Idk because im gonna be more careful now.

but you can trust me, wait are you lv 47 yet, so I can get an Endurance buff... ^^

O-mie 12-10-2007 10:30 PM

I've only had problems with gameguard using flyff, but that was bcause gala did something stupid with their patcher usually.

Hyper 12-10-2007 10:43 PM

I will love Outspark forever if they ban the spammer's IPs.

But not those who spam in caves for titles... Hehehe... >.>

lmao

That's what I call good detective work!

Please, please don't add a gameguard. Fiesta is already nearly impossible, if not completely impossible to hack, and those stupid loading times is one reason I hate Maple Story.

ah hum... we're getting spammy here LOL... maybe we could continue on in our G____G forum LOL

Valentines 12-10-2007 11:43 PM

You're the 'spam master' it's what you do.

anyway, GameGuard, no ty.

Hessah 12-10-2007 11:46 PM

oh yes.. wont strip my own title keke

hmm the launcher seems to hv lotsa trouble already... would GameGuard make it worse???

btw... so is normal friends-to-friends plvl considered to be an "offense"?

AngellicDiety 12-11-2007 02:07 AM

I really dislike gameguard. Firstly, I do not enjoy them lighting up my computer like a christmas tree with invasive kernel hooks able to moniter key-strokes and such. Secondly, even though I do not have that big of a problem with it, it does introduce extra processing. It introduces some measure of lag, which can be unbearable in high-density area's.

Furthermore, many people with obsolete PC's would be hit the hardest. Many people who suggest using Gameguard are completely ignorant fools who never consider someone running this game on a Pentium III for instance. Some operating systems cant even run gameguard effectively.

Sure you will get rid of botters for a period of time, but thats only until they figure out how to bypass gameguard. Meanwhile, you punish a good deal of your population, and restrict a population from playing simply because their PC's dont have the horsepower needed to deal with the poorly constructed kernel hooks gameguard embeds.

Although I would like to see botters be gone, I wouldn't want to see people on my friends lists dissapear just because they dont have the power to run the game anymore...

Had gameguard been developed by americans or europeans who actually know something about the windows-internals (kernel), then I'd say gameguard would be nice. But due to the fact it was developed by overconfident asians who have no clue how badly they are messing up the windows internals - well I'd rather not have it in this game.
