Regarding vandalism of wiki
From the history, it seems that some person has vandalised the fiestawiki, deliberately changing the information to false information (no one accidently changes the info for world DJ to "shout 100000000000 times in 2 seconds" do they?) While it has been restored, i would like to say that vandalism is not only a childish act, it also can easily be undone, and it is more easy to undo vandalism then it is to vandalise, so please give up.
|
That's... pretty evil. As if we needed more frantic spamming in towns and maps in order to get titles... -_-;;
|
Vandalism of the Wiki should an instant IP ban.
I see no one has changed "fateroit" back to "ateroit" in the Title Guide... ^^;; |
=.=" Immature people just do this for fun ... I seriously don't get the point of it. Is it only members of fiestafan can edit and create? Or is it everyone right now? |

It's a reason why I watch the Monster Info page. While finding well made vandals is a mess (wait, no Phinos aren't summoned monsters are they?) finding obvious issues is a synch (no, the Sword of My Pants does NOT drop from a Slime).
Thus, it would probably be much easier if the dedicated folks had a few pages on watch and do quick scans for changes. Even if no one vandalizes it, it's neat just to see a part of the wiki grow. |
Everyone can edit the wiki, but the IP will be recorded.
To some extend I agree with IP bans, but innocent people may be affected, (such as maybe an innocent sibling of a vandal or lan shops), and vandals can use proxy ips. I believe Phinos are not summoned monsters. summoned monsters would not drop soul/spirit/gem dust, and would drop summoned beast leathers. I forgot what they are though... |
I gotta agree that undoing vandalised is super easy with a back up thus making vandalism a complete waste of time.
|
Oh, I used that bit about phinos as an example. They are elemental.
Funny thing is, I used that just because I knew locating a wrong monster type would be tricky. Right after that, though, I end up having to change a few types: ratmen were set as beasts and prock zones as elementals (they are summoned and spirits respectively). |

Unless, of course, the sysop decides to give an indefinite ban. |

I believe I've IP banned some of the addresses that have vandalized the wiki.
And everyone has editing access to the wiki. Even unregistered members. |

I let the first slide. I ban for 1 week for the second offense. I ban for 1 month for the third offense. I ban for 2 months for the fourth offense. I ban indefinitely for the fifth offense. Entropy just slams the banhammer lol. |
Yah, he goes straight to the last option.
But that actually could save time if they wanted some stupid 'revenge' attack. |

They spam, we revert, we ban. They'll run out of IP's eventually. |
guess what i just saw in a discussion page on the wiki?
Shinou's Response- The Wiki was MADE to be vandalized. It's not our fault that the only reliable source for Fiesta info is this wiki. Retrieved from "http://www.fiestafan.com/wiki/Talk:Title_Guide" some people just never understand anything do they... since they are using proxy ips why not make the wiki editable by members only? |

=.=""""" That's his/her reason ... ? =.=""" =.=""" I can't think of anything to say. The only solution I can think of is to keep banning ... because allowing only members to edit might be a hassle for non-members, which potentially could stop the flow of good ideas and information. >__<" work for the banners. |
I agree. If we can see who changed the info on the wiki, ban them. When someone else vandalizes it, ban them. We all work too hard to keep the information current and accurate for some childish fool with no life to simply vandalize it because he/she is bored. If I can have the power to ban, I will take over that end of it. :)
|
What?! I thought only members could change the Wiki. Well then I agree, change it so that only members can change the Wiki.
At least we'll have them waist their time making an account just so we can ban it ^^ |
where the heck did they get the reason that wiki was "MADE" to be vandalised!
just because you can doesnt mean its MADE for it... some people have twisted minds... |
Alright, it's time to clear up a few misconceptions, it seems.
1. About the Wiki. Our FiestaWiki runs MediaWiki software, which is written in the PHP programming language, and can use either the MySQL or PostgreSQL relational database management system. It's distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License, which makes it free. 2. Editing Being run on MediaWiki software, it naturally retains all aspects of Wikimedia-related appearance and feel. In the early stages of Wikipedia, all users functioned as administrators. Naturally, however, people abused their privileges, which resulted in restricted editing privileges for all users not given the status of Administrator/Sysop (System Operator), Bureaucrat, or Steward, as unidentified IP addresses frequently vandalized. Since your average editor is restricted, he is nevertheless free to edit any page that is not protected, as it was originally Wikipedia's intent to allow all users to act as interim administrators if need be. Ergo, all users still retain the right to edit, but only those ranked Administrator/Sysop or higher will be able to complete administrative duties. 3. Vandalism Being a fansite Wiki, it's only natural to expect some vandals to screw around and be immature. That's fine. We'll ban them, and life moves on. As it's a fansite Wiki, it does not truly merit a bot to sit online all day and revert vandalism, so at its present stage, we rely on users to edit positively. Hopefully that gave a little insight on how the Wiki works. |
i guess the good thing is, its not too hard to change it back to previous version....
we can never get rid of all the asses around... there's a lot of them in life, and there's a 1000x more on the internet... |
