Maplestory.
This whole franchise started off in Korea sometime in 2003. I followed this game from then on to four years later. That means I've been an insane schizoid who seeks friendship by pretending to whack people with fish for a very long time.
The game is fine, however strongly I may abhor it. It is just another flash game on steroids, but it's a well-planned out game. Why is it well-planned out? Well.... 1. It's free. Nexon has taken a big risk on this game, on which they tried to bend our tastes on games. But with this free deal, they were able to draw even the most elitist of gamers into their foreplay. 2. It can be played on almost any computer. This compliments the "free deal" pretty well, and also helped the game become successful. 3. Their cash-shop is purely for fun. No stat enhancements or the likes, just cutsie outfits for your avatar and other luxuries that only improve your enjoyment, not your character. 4. No PvP. I found this to be a bad thing, but this game lacks the drama PvP delivers. In place of PvP, they have "get-along" quests, which attempts to connect the community instead of diversifying it, which gets me on my final point..... 5. The community. No matter how shallow, how stupid, and how asinine these players are, the community moves as a whole. Fame brings much karma in the game and friends are aplentiful. It is almost difficult to not get a friend in your first day of gameplay. Even the assholes become your friend, for whatever magic this game utilizes, it is a very powerful magic. All these I accepted wholeheartedly, this and more. But now, they have different plans for this game. They're banking on the shallowness of players. Their advertisements prove that. All of their advertisements, whether be it for pixels or their brand new TCG game. They have gone too far with something that should have died before it was launched in America. This game is now officially the new "myspace" for some folks, except with bigger consequences. Gambling is a big issue in Maplestory and the real money needed to do it is even bigger. Kids steal their parent's credit cards to pay almost a hundred dollars a week to fund this expensive hobby. More and more, this game teaches nothing to kids except about how "money buys fame, and with fame, you can do anything." I wouldn't usually care about other people like this, but I don't want other people fish-smacking me for fun. PS: Their anime sucks. Ass. Through a titanium straw. PSS: Maplestory is crap and always will remain crap. So what if they add new stuff? What do you get when you polish crap? Shiny crap. |
i got A lvl 41 ice lightening mage and a 25 mage im making to a cleric ^^
|
Uh huh... so? I don't get the point of this really. If you don't like it that's fine. There are also people who love it and go through the whole grind fest to reach the 3rd and 4th job changes.
On top of it there are other free to play games with cash shops that have similar concepts. What makes those games so different from MS? There's probably a gambling suggesting feature in other games too... |
I played this game during Beta and again when it was live. I never got far on both occasions. However, I do actually like how their cash shop works. I dislike cash shops that severely alter a character's in-game performance, it makes it unfair and unbalanced to those who cannot afford things. Also, it is kind of scary now. Damn kids and their pixels. |
Agreed. I had a level 120 priest once... Until it got banned because someone said that I was pretending to be a gm. Funny how nobody bothered from level 1 ~ 120.
|
I had two characters with triple digit levels. And I'm talking about the game's sellpoint, not the game itself.

maplestory, in my opinion is the WORST Online Game ever made, it's just a copy of lineage, WoW, and other MMORPGs and it's 2D, and have crappy graphics as well.
and im having a "wtf.." moment right now from maplestory trading card game(i suppose it's like yugioh & pokemon..). And final conclusion, MapleStory is the worst A+ for me |

I can't express in words my hatred for this game. Anyone else thought the file size was fucking ridiculous? I did. |
*sigh*
|
Funny how everybody says that everybody copies wow. I could write a rant on that but meh~ ;3 Maplestory was probably directed more at younger kids anyways. And..conservative parents might not like how other mmo are, so yeah. But meh, let them be. If they wanna make a profit let them, just because a game is free doesn't mean they don't have bills to pay x3 |
and WoW copied previous great online games, like lineage, and lineage(yes, that's all I can think of that's like WoW but it was made before WoW)
lineage is pwnage yay, it rhymes |
copied EQ also =p |
I hate this game with a passion and i hope it burns in....you know..
8 hour grind at lvl 20 is REDICULOUS and boring... I don't have any problems with nexon personally but they shouldn't support actions as such... |
Nowhere near an 8 hour grind at lvl20. >_>
|
Was for me...
Try playing a lvl 20 archer and with a WHOLE BUNCH OF NINJA/MAGE KSERS EVERYWHERE who unexainedly have as much or even more attack range then you...... |
I like MapleStory, its a fun little game. I wish I hadn't forgot my account ID/PW. Now "Messara" is lost forever as a level 9 Mage nub. I tried contacting a GM about the problem but... I got some stupid generic answer that had NOTHING to do with my problem. Thats like... the only truly bad thing about the game besides the awkward controls. I think i'll start playing again but it'll suck not having my trademark name. *Sigh*
|
Actually the Maple Story cash shop is not "purely for fun." They do have EXP 2x coupons and item drop rate increase coupons there :/
I have a lv 72 White Knight on MS, but even with 4th jobs being finally released in January, I can't find myself playing MS right now. Training is very tedious, so I'm going to stay true to my Maple sabbatical and playing Fiesta haha |
