Dad gifts

With black Friday coming, I want to be on the lookout for gifts I can get my dad. What are things you can get a dad though?

Hessah 11-10-2015 09:42 PM

Does your dad have any hobbies?

Dads are so hard to get pressies for...

Lirange 11-10-2015 10:24 PM

smoking and drinking

Yosei 11-10-2015 10:53 PM

Gift card to the liquor store!

I usually just ask him if there's anything he wants. I can't remember what I got him last year but the year before I got him Catan since he likes board games and he's never played it before.

This year I am sending him proud parents products from my college book store. He gets a shirt, a hat, a keychain, and a sticker. You could also browse thinkgeek.com for gift ideas. They don't just have 'geeky' stuff but they also have some really neat things that could appeal to anyone.

Lirange 11-10-2015 11:20 PM

Haha. A proud parent shirt with a picture of me.

Hessah 11-10-2015 11:22 PM

^ What she said

Vasu 11-10-2015 11:58 PM

Depends what he likes. My dad is really into classical music so I got him a CD collection (yes CD, he still has a tape collection that's how old fashioned he is). Another time I couldn't think of anything so I just bought him a watch.

a.L 11-12-2015 02:51 AM

My status is gonna be the saaaaaaaaaaaaaaame :(

Hessah 11-12-2015 03:12 AM

I love how we derail threads..

Will you be a graduate a.L?

Yosei 11-12-2015 03:40 AM

Congratulations to both of you! Haha.

So yeah! Presents! Already bought all of my boyfriends. I got him an Agents of Shield sweater, Captain America polo shirt, fancy leatherbound Hobbit book, and soap (it's a huge bar of soap that is vanilla scented but it's kind of musky and Earthy smelling so I thought it'd be good for a guy).

I know. maybe we should have an FF meetup if I come to the US.

Yosei 11-12-2015 09:54 PM

You should do something funny KT. It's the last year you will be the youngest in the family. Next year there will be a baby.

But yeah it's so interesting thinking about how long we've all been here. 8 years? We've seen members go from grade schoolers to college students, and now we have people having babies! FF babies!

But I don't blame Hessah for not announcing it until now and so casually. I don't know about over there, but in a lot of cultures it's taboo to announce a pregnancy before 3 months since the first trimester is such a fragile state.

Hessah 11-13-2015 12:00 AM

Oh yeah sorry I started the derailing keke

Thanks Yosei and Vasu!

Well yeah it's weird, coz at the beginning I want yell it to the world! But I'm not suppose to, and by the time I can tell everyone it feels like old news LOL so I didn't do any big announcements, just whatsapped people or tell them when the conversation comes up like now LOL

Yosei 11-13-2015 12:09 AM

You should've just let your tummy grow and when people point it out act super surprised.

Hessah 11-13-2015 12:25 AM

Yeah I'm waiting for the other half of the office to say something... xD

I want to know at what point will it become so obvious that it's no longer rude for them to ask "are you pregnant?"

Yosei 11-13-2015 04:41 AM

Well you seem like you don't exactly have a plump figure so there will definitely be a point. While for some women, you sadly can't tell until it's closer toward the end. Then again we are all taught to never ask a woman if she is pregnant. Even if she looks like she's swallowed a watermelon.

Hessah 11-13-2015 04:46 AM

LOL and one thing I learned (from others) is that once someone told you they are pregnant, don't ask them "are you sure you're not having twins?" That's pretty offensive too, but people don't realise.

Yosei 11-13-2015 05:00 AM

Personally I wouldn't be offended. I'd just make a joke.

"Oh wow, are you pregnant???"
"What? Me? No! I'm just storing fat for the winter..."

Omg LOOOOOL. That's a good one, I'll remember that.

Blaaaaaaaah 11-15-2015 12:55 AM

why is the twins thing offensive? If I was preggo and someone asked me that I don't think I'd be offended. maybe annoyed if every single person asks me that.

a.L 11-15-2015 01:13 AM

Another way of implying that they're fat?

Blaaaaaaaah 11-15-2015 05:17 AM

but some people miht think it's twins because the baby bump is huge not because they're fat lol

a.L 11-15-2015 05:25 AM

But you're asking if they're SURE they're NOT having twins.

If you had baby bump that was somewhat larger, and you said you weren't having twins and someone else was like "ARE YOU SURE?" doesn't that imply that you are on the fatter side of things?

Or they're implying the baby is fat

Yosei 11-15-2015 08:19 PM

There could be excess fluid that causes the bump to be bigger.

Lirange 11-15-2015 08:50 PM

omg blahs not getting it

Hessah 11-15-2015 10:29 PM

yeah some people are very self conscious with their body weight while pregnant (I'm pretty comfortable with my body image but I'm still like WTF is happening with my body?!)

When people ask "are you SURE you're not having twins?" first impression was "omg I must look much bigger than I should" then "of course I'm sure, I already did 2 ultrasound scans before I told you so why are you doubting me?"

not everyone will be offended.. most people will probably just brush it off..

I prefer people to just say "oh look you're showing!" or "You're not showing much yet" (I've had both comments made to me..)

Lirange 11-16-2015 12:50 AM

has anybody (besides family & close friends) asked to feel your tummy?

Hessah 11-16-2015 01:13 AM

no stranger has done it yet.. but my belly isn't big enough to be obvious unless you know I'm pregnant.
