Phone apps

What phone apps do you guys use and recommend? Aside from the standard ones like Gmail of course. I love SwiftKey which is a really good keyboard. Pushbullet is also a good one I use, any notification you get on your phone will pop up on your computer.

Blaaaaaaaah 06-02-2015 09:07 PM

I use swype for my keyboard which I love but that comes with samsung (or all android?) phones.

What kind of phone do you use?

I recently learnt there's a LoL messenger app. Maybe you can install it so in the future when YOU CHANGE YOUR MIND ABOUT COMING ON you can tell us.

bolded for emphasis

I have the nexus 6. I used to use swpye but it doesn't really work for things not the dictionary, though you can always type it. I highly recommend you try SwiftKey, I've used both and like SwiftKey way better.

And do you guys use the lol messenger app? So will I always be displayed as online?

Ralath 06-03-2015 02:18 AM

Windows Phone uses SwiftKey automatically installed I think.

Blaaaaaaaah 06-03-2015 06:59 AM

I'm not sure how it works hahahaha maybe you can set your status?

Lirange 06-03-2015 12:26 PM

Also, I highly recommend you guys to use phone verification with your Gmail. Anytime anyone tries to log into a Google service with your email, it will text you a verification code that you must enter to continue on with the service. Being as email is probably the most important account you have, it's good to have it as secure as possible.

Blaaaaaaaah 06-03-2015 08:59 PM

Are you new to smart phones?

Lirange 06-03-2015 10:22 PM

Can get TeamViewer to control your PC from your phone.

Tasker is a nice app that lets you set simple "If this, then do that" type of rules for your phone to follow. An alternative is IFTTT. I use it to do stuff like; If I plug in earphones, then open Spotify.

Duolingo for learning the conversational basics and more of new languages in a simple game-type way.

CamScanner - To "scan" papers into PDFs.

Lirange 06-04-2015 03:44 PM

Oooh, I like that headphone thing. I might try it.

Hessah 06-04-2015 11:28 PM

EBAY! Makes spending money too easy.

Ralath 06-04-2015 11:50 PM

eBay????????

What do you bid on??

Hessah 06-05-2015 12:04 AM

I buy all sorts of cheap stuff off ebay, like phone case, and camera accessories, even like scarves and clothing accessories...

Stuff that will cost us $15 at the shops here but only $5 on ebay.

Link your paypal to your email and you wouldn't even know you're spending money xD

Vasu 06-05-2015 03:55 PM

Tasker is a paid app though, and it can be a little tough to get the hang of. But it's super crazy how much you can do with it. You can even get it to recognize location based on cellphone tower/GPS and do something with that. For example - If I enter the library, put in silent mode. If I go into this seedy neighbourhood, text my wife that I love her etc etc.

I couldn't find it in ifttt?

Hessah 06-18-2015 01:56 AM

Oh the IFTTT sounds like an interesting all..

There's an app called MagicPlan, where you can use the camera on your phone to mark the corners and doorways of a room, and it puts it in an floor plan for you.

Ralath 06-18-2015 02:06 AM

oh, that sounds really cool. But I don't know how often I would use that app...

Hessah 06-18-2015 02:11 AM

When you move, or looking for new places, it'll give you a sq meter of the place. We used it when we need to find out how much office space we've got. keke

but yeah I've only used it once so far xD

Lirange 06-18-2015 03:02 AM

Ooh yeah that sounds like it'd be very useful when moving to a new place. Just gotta remember to use it when that time comes lool

Sorry I dun use IFTTT much (at all really)... I only heard that it was a like a lite alternative to Tasker. :(

Or did you mean you couldn't find the app at all?

I couldn't find the recipe or create it. So is Tasker more advanced? Can it do things like increase brightness when I open up YouTube?

Vasu 06-18-2015 02:46 PM

Yup! You can set up a profile that increases brightness when a list of apps are opened. I use it for a couple of my games actually. Here's the guide I used to do that for myself:

Lirange 06-18-2015 02:56 PM

Hmm I think I'll buy it.

Lirange 06-24-2015 12:39 AM

Do you guys use tempered glass on your phone? I got it to protect my screen and it was my first time putting it on. I thought I would be able to adjust it a little when I put it on before it seals so I wasn't too careful when laying it on my screen but it seals to the screen immediately on contact and now it's slightly slanted :(.

Hessah 06-24-2015 01:13 AM

My hubby had used it.. but it cracked and broke after a little while... and he didn't even drop his phone...

I still prefer the normal anti-glare screen protector

Lirange 06-24-2015 02:39 AM

just the tempered glass broke though right? so it protected his phone's screen!

Hessah 06-24-2015 04:12 AM

Yeah just the tempered glass.. I dunno what it protected his phone from though LOL

Ralath 06-24-2015 04:59 AM

so how do you get the tempered glass cover off?

a.L 06-24-2015 05:58 AM

Where to get cheap phone cases?
