Spicy food
Has anyone every trained themselves into eating spicy food?
I don't eat spicy stuff myself, it burns my mouth and I can't take it very well.. but I've been told many times how that I'm missing out on good food (mainly food that THOSE people enjoy..) Some said you can train yourself to take it.. has anyone done that? |
I don't know about being trained, but I live in Louisiana. Spicy food is just sort of...normal.
|
Lol I guess training means working your way up XD I enjoy very spicy foods...just can't eat a lot of it :P
|
Yeah, you just have to work your way up.
http://ushotstuff.com/Heat.Scale.htm There's a scale you can start from the top and work your way down. :p It's not like you're missing out but a bit of heat definitely makes things better. Not the numbing sort of heat but the flavourful kind. |
Oh interesting chart... xD

Nothing beats cayenne on popcorn.

It's the magic of Google.

If it doesn't make me break out in an instant sweat, it isn't hot enough!!!!!
:devil::devil::devil: |
I've been idly trying to get my hands on some naga peppers for a while now.
|
My mom is eating spicy food since she's so young, now she can eat anything. :/

I used to not be able to eat spicy food at all when I was young but now I really love eating spicy food. Especially if there's a little bit of Chinese numbness in it. The last time I went to China, my cousin took me to this restaurant that was so numb, I couldn't taste anything for the rest of the night. *_*
|
The restaurant was numb...?
|
Yeah. Chinese people have a combination where they give you both spicy and numb (from like peppercorn and stuff) at the same time. But this dish was more numb than spicy and just... wasn't as enjoyable. It was also super salty.
|
That doesn't really wanna make me try spicy food LOL
|
Just try spicy foods without the 麻辣. I thought most Chinese people are spicy food. Some of the most famous Chinese dishes are spicy (or are supposed to be, eg. kung pao chicken, mapo tofu). Not like super spicy but just a tiny bit spicy.
Actually, I think the secret is to eat lots of rice. Whenever I eat spicy food, I always have to eat a lot of rice. |
Down south of China food are generally more salty/soy sauce rather than spicy.. which is the type of food I'm generally use to..
To be honest I don't even like food with too much pepper in it.. LOL! |

Unfortunately, most Chinese food advertised as "spicy" here in the states is anything but spicy. If I want spicy asian food, I go for Thai food.
I used to have 2 bottles of hot sauce from a small specialty company. The first one was esentially boiled down habanero peppers. 1 drop was enough to put heat into a 2 gallon container of BBq sauce. It's name was "Holy Shit". My favorite though was something much more wicked. 1 half drop was enough to put some serious heat into a 5 gallon container of chili. A friend took a bet to taste a bit of the pure stuff - he said he couldn't taste anything for several days afterward. The name of this wonderfully evil sauce??? "Colon Blow":devil::devil: |
LOL @ Crystal & Helion HAHA

Go Szechuan :)
|
Or drink milk.
We dared people to lick a toothpick that was dipped in what is supposedly one of the hottest sauces they had. They made us sign a consent form too. One guy was crying. |

At least they never will have to go through the horrors of child birth. Then again, they do have to put up with one week of evil every month. ;) For the rest of their lives together.
Oh and spicy food is good for you. So you should try to eat a little bit... like pho. :P |
pho's not spicy!
