Recommendations

I've been thinking for awhile about getting myself a desktop but honestly have no idea what I should be looking for. As you all can guess I'd like to get one that can play most games in high settings and figured that if it can do that it'll be good enough for any graphics work.

Some suggested building one but even if it is "relatively easy" and my bf saying he'll do it I know I can't bother with the homework and he isn't going to do it anytime soon. So any recommendations and/or key specs I should be looking at?

As far as online retailers go, I like newegg.com and tigerdirect.com.

What price range are you shooting for?

Preferably something under 1200.

And yeah, I'd rather not build anything... just option to upgrade if need be later.

Well I'll say DON'T GET ALIENWARE. I haven't had any experience with it myself, but I've heard about tons of people that have had it, and even though it was great while it lasted, it broke after maybe a year or a few months. I think it isn't worth the great time you have with it, unless you wanna spend a ton on a longer warranty and later have to pay full price for repairs...

ALIENWARE is shit end of story

Loveless 01-09-2011 10:49 PM

I don't know the name already screams no to me, lol.

Alienware is Dell's "high-end" gaming label. In the end, it's still a Dell. Let me look around a bit, see what's available.

ibuypower

You can pick loads of models starting @ 500 and upgrade them, probably only 200 bucks more and you can have a pc that will run anything. Their GFX cards also have examples of the FPS they run high end games @

Cool, thanks.

I'll look into that as well when I'm home then.

So I'm currently looking at newegg and going by reviews I'm seeing iBUYPOWER and CyperpowerPC.

I don't know if you can see this comparison though..

I know the iBUYPOWER ones are out of stock but figured I might be able to search their website since I'm not buying it the next day or anything like that.

If the four are your only options, then the second one for $879.99 is probably your best choice. The 460 GTX is possibly the most price efficient card out there at the moment, unless you find an amazing deal.

Loveless 01-10-2011 11:05 PM

Thanks..

I wouldn't say only option yet. I'm just not sure what sort of pricing is reasonable for certain specs. Such as graphics card, RAM, whatever else. Or what brands are worth it.

Good luck. I'm thinking of changing my desktop to a mac PC.
