Help Lirange with his Math

Solve for x and list restrictions for variables.
I'm having difficulty with these problems-_-.

1) .5(2x+3/4)-1/3(.1+x)=1
x+.375-.03(forever)+-1/3=1 (Distribute)
The .0333333 is what screws me up. I think if I leave -1/3*.1 as a decimal I'll get it right but I don't know how to do thatxD. Forgot basic multiplication.

2) cx-b=ax+d
cx=ax+d+b (move b over)
This is where I'm stuck. How do I make it so x is alone?

Ralath 08-26-2010 10:36 PM

2) cx-ax=d+b
x(c-a)=d+b
x=(d+b)/(c-a)

Lirange 08-26-2010 10:45 PM

how you get cx-ax -> x(c-a)

Ralath 08-26-2010 10:48 PM

I did the first one but I cbb to type out all the fractions.

Just change all your decimals to fractions. That helps a lot.

Then multiply by the inverse of the fraction that's in front of the parenthesis and a lot of stuff cancels out.

Then it's just simplifying and plugging it into a calculator.

I factored out the x.

x*(c-a)=xc-xa

Lirange 08-26-2010 10:52 PM

So it'll end up being (3/8)-(-2/3)? I get a long decimal after that. How do I make that into a fraction on a graphing calculator?xD

Ralath 08-26-2010 10:56 PM

I don't think that's what I got...

But I don't have a calculator on me.

Idk.

Ask Triumph or somebody.

On your graphing calculator, you should have a button that has F->D or something. But you should just do it on a normal calculator if you have one. I still use a TI-32 for all my classes.

Lirange 08-26-2010 11:02 PM

Your asian, you should have a calculator brain.

I'll just ask my teacher in class tomorrow-_-.

There's this one problem and I got to
ax=bx-ab+3a-8
Would I divide by a and have everything on the right side be over a? Then how would i get the x from bx to the left side.

Ralath 08-26-2010 11:03 PM

^what? what are you solving for?

Lirange 08-26-2010 11:09 PM

x

Lirange 08-26-2010 11:10 PM

screw it, I don't care. Are you going to be on LoL in about 30minutes-1hours? I'll probably be done with all my homework by then.

Ralath 08-26-2010 11:10 PM

That problem is the same as #2 in your first post.

The only danger here is that there might be a way to simplify a little more, but I moved some things around and I don't think you can.

Lirange 08-26-2010 11:53 PM

get on LoL

LOLOLOL bad Lirange!

Ralath 08-27-2010 12:04 AM

I'm on but you're not...

I think you're missing an x there... 1/3 (0.1+x) = 1/30 + 1/3x

it shows how x(c-a) --> cx - ax

Which means you can go backwards and get cx-ax -> x(c-a)

Tamashiiryuu 08-27-2010 05:48 AM

math
she be orgasm inducing

english is the true hag/bich...
lirange.. i has to apply for MITES this year T_T
being a jr is not going to be fun

Lirange 08-27-2010 11:35 AM

You better make it! Then when I go there we can see each other every singleee day and be besttt frandddds.

Blaaaaaaaah 08-27-2010 11:43 AM

You guys might be going to the same school?! how cute~

a.L 08-27-2010 12:05 PM

Can I be your derivative so I can the tangent to your curves?

Hessah 08-27-2010 12:10 PM

Your favourite pick up line?

Sparkeh 08-27-2010 10:52 PM

WHY THE FUCK IS YOUR MATH SO COMPLICATED LIKE THAT? @__@

Ours is soo EASY!

Tamashiiryuu 08-27-2010 11:36 PM

LOL SParkeh....that IS easy >_>
getting great grades in MITEs pretty much means you got in if you apply to MIT!!! i would gasm so much if i got imma need to bug a lot of seniors via emails for help and shit crappy thing is, so many of my classmates are going to apply for mites as well >_> we mexicans are crawling all over the place.

Sparkeh 08-28-2010 12:55 AM

I don't even get anything...ca xa x w/e.

We just have numbers. u__u

Do you go to a really good high school? o-o

Lirange 08-28-2010 01:38 AM

Forgot your mexican....actually I don't believe in meeting strangers on the internet, so we can't meet.

lol jk.

I'm not going to lie though, if we did both go to MIT imma be scared to meet you, regardless of your race.

Ralath 08-28-2010 01:41 AM

^That's pretty much what I told you.

Lirange 08-28-2010 01:48 AM

what?when?

Lirange 08-28-2010 01:53 AM

Dood tama, if you get in you can get me the hook ups right?;D. I'm trying really hard in school. Freshman year I got 2.5gpa T__T. But ima try to get a 4.0+this year!!!! I think I can get a's in most of my class..except french. But I'll just do whatever means necessary to get an a in that class...

Why were you so eager to meet Ralath? LOL!!!

Lirange 08-28-2010 02:24 AM

Tama and ralath are two really different people. I find tama more frightening. I'd still like to meet him though! As long as I get his picture and his criminal history. I bet me and Ralath have some mutual acquaintances/friends we know.

Ralath 08-28-2010 02:49 AM

I'm pretty frightening too.

And we probably DON'T have any mutual acquaintances.

Blaaaaaaaah 08-28-2010 02:52 AM

Poor tama LOL

The .0333333 is what screws me up. I think if I leave -1/3*.1 as a decimal I'll get it right but I don't know how to do thatxD. Forgot basic multiplication.

Code:

1/2(2x+3/4) - 1/3(1/10 + x) = 1 --- remove outer factors

(x + 3/8) - (1/30 + x/3) = 1 --- remove brackets

x + 3/8 - 1/30 - x/3 = 1 --- find a common denominator (240)

240x/240 + 90/240 - 8/240 -80x/240 = 1 --- "unite" the equation under one denominator

(240x + 90 - 8 - 80x)/240 = 1 --- move the denominator to the right side, and do the arithmetic calculations on the left side

160x + 82 = 240  --- wont bother explaining, this is too easy
160x = 240 - 82
160x = 158
x = 158/160
x = 79/80

There. You list the restrictions, I forgot how to do that.

Ralath 08-28-2010 03:42 AM

^is that really the answer? That's nothing close to what I got... but I didn't use a calculator so idk what the answer should be.

Substitute the answer for x and see for yourself.

Tamashiiryuu 08-28-2010 04:29 AM

that would be awsome if we went to MIT, Lirange. I wouldnt even bother to stalk you though...if it helps though, Ive seen your picture, but you havent seen me.

try to make 10th and 11th grade count!!

@ Ralath
the hs i go to is great only because of the small magnet program. the regular school ....lol

im perverted not scary T_T

Ralath 08-28-2010 04:34 AM
