Loveless 08-06-2010 02:57 AM

Who says they're always telling the truth? Everybody lies.

Belaslav 08-06-2010 02:58 AM

Eh, it's like asking what came first: the chicken or the egg.

Leesa 08-06-2010 03:00 AM

^ The egg, because they would've evolved and had a change in DNA from pre-historic animals such as dinosaurs etc., and it would've been changed in the egg, hatching to what we know as the chicken =D

BUT TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION LIRNAGE: Wouldn't someone who always tells the truth not lie so they wouldn't even have to say they're lying? Either way, they'd be a liar xD

Haseo55 08-06-2010 03:04 AM

Lol

Fair enough. See if you can solve this one: Could any omnipotent being create a rock so heavy that it could not be lifted by the being?

Haseo55 08-06-2010 03:15 AM

hey not fair im in 8th grade and i slept a lot in 7th what is an omnipotent bieng (i could google it but nah) ;)

Leesa 08-06-2010 03:18 AM

To get better clarification on the term 'omnipotent'.. well, according to dictionary.com:

Quote:

having very great or unlimited authority or power.
So unless you wanna go completely ape shit crazy with these theories and bend logic completely, I'd say you can't have a rock that weighs... infinity pounds, right? but if the being has unlimited power, they could lift the rock thats as close to infinity as possible.. I guess @_@

Haseo55 08-06-2010 03:22 AM

Lol now i know but yea clerification but leesa's awnser sounds right.

Since you guys seem to be enjoying paradox problems, here a whole list of them:

Zeno's my personal favourite.

But if they're a liar then wouldn't them saying they'd lie be them telling the truth?

Chicken. You place chicken before egg in the sentence, thus fore the chicken came first.

Haseo55 08-06-2010 04:43 AM

Lulz Chicken is me and my GF favorite food XD

They are lying. A person that always tells the truth, by definition, cannot lie. If they are professing to lying, they are lying (either they are lying or lying about the lying), hence they are by definition lying in either case.

This just means "Person X never lies" is a false premise.

The true paradox is someone that says "I always lie". Wrap your head around THAT one.

So, if you always lie, Then that statement is a lie. Meaning you always you tell the truth. But if you're always telling the truth, then why did you just lie. Blah.

I also like:

"The next sentence is false.
The preceding sentence is true."

Lirange 08-06-2010 06:00 PM

heh..
G__G

Kaini 08-06-2010 06:30 PM

Simple. If they always tell the truth, they wouldn't have said it.
