Strawberry?

A lady comes up to the counter speaking in Japanese asking for shaved ice.

Customer: (Japanese) Excuse me.

Me: (English) Hi, what can I get for you?

(I generally avoid speaking Japanese, especially to middle-age Japanese women cause they become really demanding once they know you also speak Japanese.)

Customer: (English) Shaved ice? What's the flavour?

Me: It's right there on the menu, we only have one kind, cassis and cream.

Customer: ... Strawberry, can I get strawberry?

Me: There is no strawberry flavour, there's only one kind.

Customer: Where?

(By now I'm getting quite annoyed because she's staring at the damn menu while saying this.)

Me: *points* Here.

Customer: Ca... ssis... *hands $5*

Me: Okay, thank you, just be a couple minutes.

Seriously... these people... makes me want to throw something at them. Often times customers are staring at the menu where the price is written and they're like "so... how much is it?" What's worse is that some of these people ask this, open their wallets and I see that they have a student card for one of the 'best' university around the area. /rant

lmao xD;; they can read the cost though right? xAx since its numbers and all...
dont they teach conversational english in the schools? D; or does the english language just slip out of their brains once they graduate...?

Leesa 07-26-2010 05:56 PM

LOL the way you typed how she talked and stuttered so.... specifically.... xD hee-laur-ee-us

Hessah 07-26-2010 11:52 PM

Japanese people (the ones in Japan) barely use English!

But I know my parents does that a lot, we tend to ask for stuff off the menu coz they MIGHT just have it! xD

Loveless 07-27-2010 03:26 AM

Yeah... it really irks me when people do that. I'm always tempted to say "well, if we had that it would be on the menu... there's no hidden item"... -__-

Or they'll bypass the first two shops (cause mine is the farthest away from the entrance) and ask if I have sushi/noodles... you only just passed by them y'know? like ffs people!

Hessah 07-27-2010 03:38 AM

But but.. there are some places that really has stuff that are not on the menu! HAHAHA Esp chinese places LOL

Loveless 07-27-2010 03:58 AM

Yeah... Chinese places do seem to do that alot.

Or this one place we always go to for pho. We know the owner and the waiter there and one night the waiter comes to our table, places a dish and walks away giggling (yes, he giggles but he's such a nice person :D). Then comes back later and is like "how was it? I just made it today". ._. We were guinea pigs but least it was good, lol.

You work at frozen yougurt shop? o-o

Fr0Z3nWind 07-27-2010 04:35 PM

Around my country, including neighbouring countries.
Some chinese stalls menu are just there to show some commonly ordered food and the chefs' speciality. What they really do/are is that you order anything, and they cook it for you, provided they tell you they have the ingredients.

I ordered a chicken rice they other day and I was wearing my ex- school pe shirt. It was a Sunday and as I was paying for it, the stall owner told me the price and I gave an "ok" sign as i reached for my money.
She told me I could not get the student meal price, I could only get it tomorrow, so wearing the school shirt did not help.
First things first, who EVER wears their PRESENT school shirt with other shorts/skirts/jeans/whatever...and on a Sunday walking around. Unless you have already graduated from that school. I think the sign for student meal is also quite big enough on weekdays only.

Sparkeh 07-27-2010 04:48 PM

What's ex-school preshirt?

I'm a little confused, so you wore your ex-school PE shirt so you could get student priced meals?

Triumph 07-28-2010 12:39 AM

I wish I could get a student discount on food... college food prices are insane.

Loveless 07-28-2010 01:00 AM

I wouldve thought most places would ask for student ID, not a shirt.

Sparkeh 07-28-2010 07:49 AM

I get 50% discount of shirts and jeans when i shop. Student card.

Hessah 07-29-2010 05:25 AM
