Mmm, the mobs can't get around him to get at the squishies. You lose any sharp weapons you stab into him. Blunt weapons bounce right off him. Arrows bounce off the tough hide. Projectiles are stopped before they reach anything important...

Also, jumping would cause earthquakes, doing massive AoE damage
