so that is why my computer has been going slow....

my scanner just found 230 infections, and 200 of them were trojans.
:zomg:

*cleans the infections immediately*

better back up all your important stuff

Hraesvelg 12-17-2009 12:15 AM

No real point in backing up now...everything is infected, LOL.

Hessah 12-17-2009 12:22 AM

you can still burn your files like photos and documents onto a disk right?

Coz chances are she'll need to format her computer..

Chimaera 12-17-2009 01:19 AM

I'm curious as to which malware scanner you're using.

Some malware can trick you into downloading some bogus "virus scanner" that will give you incredible results, such as yours. Depending on what the creator's intentions were, you're probably infected with something else. I mean, wow. That many infections is just ridiculous.

cillia 12-17-2009 01:25 AM

i use AVG and have used it for quite a few years o.e;

Chimaera 12-17-2009 01:28 AM

How'd you end up with 200 infections while using AVG?

I've been using AVG for quite awhile now too and I've never gotten more than a few bad cookies from Internet Explorer. COOKIES.

cillia 12-17-2009 01:30 AM

=_=;;; i have no idea how i got those infections... my computer has been OK but just today when i turn on my comp i get alerted with a message that says... well... yeah xD you know

Hessah 12-17-2009 01:35 AM

Have you been googling stuff?

thats how i got a virus last time..

Hraesvelg 12-17-2009 01:36 AM

You must have hit the porn/hacker site lottery.

I didnt realise our private forum was that infectious...

Pritcher 12-17-2009 02:44 AM

Ouch. That sucks. :uhoh:

If it were me I'd prolly backup whatever you safely can and re-format. It's a pain in the butt though. I just formatted and did a clean install of my OS last week and it took a good chunk of my weekend to get back to where I was. I do that a few times a year though just because I like to keep it all clean and lean. Good luck.

And on a much more immature note I just have to say...

Hmm... Interesting addon. I might give it a shot. It's a really great idea, but I'm not sure how well it goes in practice since it's reliant on user ratings.

A little worried about false positives from people just because they might not like a site for arbitrary reasons. A lot of the negative reviews of the addon are complaints of just that sort of thing. Can't hurt to try it out though.

cillia 12-17-2009 03:14 AM

yeah now whenever i try to google something, when i click on the google link, it brings me to a site that probably has virusses on it. (only when i use Google Chrome)

and i tried reinstalling osu since it hasnt been working for a while now...
:/ now whenever i try to install osu the bar is stuck at 100% and when i try to close it it doesnt close. i cant even turn my comp off when its open and i have to go down and hold down my power button for it to turn off.
:/ i would end process with task manager but my moms time restricting program blocks me from opening Task manager T-T

Hessah 12-17-2009 03:15 AM

I'm not sure how it worked, but sites that haven't been rated / have very low number of rating are marked as ?

I think I've avoided a lot more dangerous sites, than I have missed by false negatives (if that made sense?)

I tried rating my work website coz it's on ? and i know it's not dangerous.. but it didnt change anything LOL I think a site needs a certain number of ratings for it to register =/

WoT doesn't just rely on user ratings but also uses MalwareDomains and other reputable block lists put together by knowledgeable people. Although users can input their opinions, the WoT community often heed advice from a few members who are themselves malware researchers and security experts.

@cilia: Doesn't AVG warn you about dangerous links? Its latest free version has Link Scanner which does just that.

You may want to refer to this comparative test of many antivirus brands. I've been following it for a while and noticed that AVG's performance is not as good as the other free alternatives such as Avast and Avira which also use much less system resources than AVG.
