Tad's Anime Lounge

Since there isn't an anime sub-forum in this place, I decided to create a thread. I KNOW MOST OF YOU LIKE ANIME, SO THIS WILL BENEFIT YOU GREATLY!

This thread will be mainly for:

Discussing anime you watched.

Helping people find anime.

Anime recommendations.

Possible plot twists.

And more!

NO SPOILERS! I fricken' hate spoilers. If you want to discuss an anime but have to reveal some of its more interesting plot, always use white text to hide it.

secbro20 11-03-2007 03:06 AM

If your gonna fill this space tomorrow, then why would you make post today? Just wait to make a post till tomorrow. Its not like theres a limited amount of space and you have to save a spot.

This thread is basically spam because nothing is here and there is no point to it being posted

Blaaaaaaaah 11-03-2007 03:25 AM

^ Yeah, what he said.

But meh, I'll give you a day or two to update your post, then I'll move it to spam if it's not updated.

Tadiakichi 11-04-2007 03:48 AM

I lost heart half-way through the post. So now, I just half-assed the thread. Go me.

Enrei 11-04-2007 11:15 AM

Check out RAH XEPHON, it's a mecha-anime and I forget what it's about.. something about blue blood. Anyways, I only watched one episode but it was still good.

Pritcher 11-04-2007 12:12 PM

I liked RahXephon. I've seen some epic arguments about that show on forums, apparently there's a massive geek war going on between RahXephon fans and Evangelion fans.

I most recently watched the Crest/Banner of the Stars series and I liked that a lot. It's a futuristic sci-fi deal with space war and romance mixed in and I think it's really more of a drama than anything, but it's all handled very well. The characters are pretty good and despite the theme they seem more realistic than many other shows.

Rightclaw 11-11-2007 03:55 PM

Everyone should go watch Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. Please and thanks.

Pritcher 11-11-2007 04:00 PM

Still haven't seen that yet, but I been meaning to. Quite creepy I hear.

Enrei 11-11-2007 04:09 PM

I watched that Moyashimon, it was pretty weird. It's still good too, I learned random things from watching that.. but that old man who ate the dead fermented seagull by drinking its liquids through its bowels.. that made me laugh.

It's banned in some countries now. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai is also banned in some countries for the same reason. That's how awesome it is.

Rightclaw 11-11-2007 05:43 PM

I didn't know that o_____O

I remember hearing about one of Kai's episodes getting postponed because some girl killed her father with an axe or sumthin like that.

Kai > First Season, btw.

Tadiakichi 11-11-2007 05:46 PM

White people rule everything.

I remember hearing about that too, though I didn't know When they cry was affected, I remember that School Days' final episode was postponed for similar reasons.

Lafieru 11-18-2007 02:17 AM

Haven't watched anything new in a while, but I used to be a pretty big fan. I used to love discovering smaller, less-known series, like Kino no Tabi, Mushishi, Honey and Clover, and Crest/Banner of the Stars (*cough cough* where my handle's from!). Still watched the "big" series from time to time though, with my top three favorites being Fruits Basket, Kenshin, and Death Note.

Nowdays, my only anime exposure is listening to Yoko Kanno soundtracks. Yoko Kanno = my goddess of music *_*

Award-winning anime aren't less-known anime D: Wish there were more Kino's Journey though, fun watch.

Anyone here watched Guu?

Hyper 11-18-2007 05:17 AM

Three favorite shows:

1. Bleach

2. Death Note

3. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

Anime also appears to encourage gang activity. The image to the right was sent in by a reader. Notice how the young lady is flashing gang signs? Apparently she is a huge anime and “say-you” fan. Those signs are similar to the ones you’d find in the hood.

And my favorite three animes would be.
  1. Gundam Series (Except for Wing and G)
  2. Death Note
  3. Bleach

Phantom Badger 11-18-2007 07:49 PM

Since I live in england ive not seen many animes, ive mainly watched them on the internet
The animes ive seen are:
Moyoshimon
Pokemon
Yu-gi-oh
BLEACH
Love Hina
FullMetal Alchemist
Death Note (currently watching as i speak)

Zwivix 11-19-2007 02:42 AM

I dont want anime I just read the manga.

Btw the Manga for Death Note has a way better ending than the Anime. Not gonna say anything on how the manga ends until your done watching the Anime. XD

Blaaaaaaaah 11-19-2007 03:04 AM

List of animes I have watched:
  • Aishteru something. (My sister made me watch this... this was my first anime. I didn't finish it because I didn't like it, lol!).
  • Full Metal Alchemist. (This anime made me like animes and will remain the best anime ever in my book).
  • Naruto. (I think almost everyone have seen Naruto. Awesome at first, gets stupid after with the fillers, although I've never started watching the new ones).
  • School Rumble 1 and 2. (1 was awesome, 2 was crap).
  • Yakitate!! Japan. (an anime about bread, LOL. Pretty hilarious! Although I never got around to watching all the episodes).
  • Azumanga Diaoh. (Randomly funny, no story line, just random things).
  • Bleach. (My friends always nagged me to watch this. It's really good, except I haven't been downloading new eps after catching up to the most current episode).
  • D. Gray Man (Only watched the first few eps of this, never got around to watching the whole thing... it was ok, I wasn't into it much though.)
  • The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. (Was told to watch this in aired order. Confused me a little bit but it's still good anyway. The songs are mad.)
  • Over Drive (Currently watching this. Pretty good and hilarious).

I might have left out one or two but oh well.

Pritcher 11-19-2007 03:13 AM

I've seen a lot of anime over the years. Not sure how much, but possibly an unhealthy amount x_x. I think I made a list on ANN a while back, not really up to date but I'll see if I can find it again.

-EDIT-

My Anime List

Not up to date, but yeah, that should give some idea of the magnitude of my dorkosity =P

/Edit

Manga's fun too. Death Note was good for a while, the first half with Light and L matching wits was really good, but it kind of went downhill fast about mid-way through and I actually stopped reading it. Never saw anime. One day maybe I'll try it again. Berserk is the manga to read; pure awesomeness right there.

@Lafieru - I thought something about your name seemed a bit familiar to me, but her name was Lafiel in translations. It's that whole mixed up R's and L's thing again. Also, Mushishi is a great series for chillin out. Makes me feel all calm when I watch that show.

Blaaaaaaaah 11-19-2007 03:16 AM

Oh after reading Pritcher's post I forgot to add:

BYOUSOKU 5 CENTIMETRES!

It's more of a movie though.. kind of. It has 3 episodes combined together. I think they episodes came out separately, but I watched the combined version. It's really good, and I love the song at the end of it.

I want to watch it again now, although I have already watched it like.. hmm.. maybe 2 or 3 times, haha!

Esen 11-19-2007 03:58 AM

Haha, I've only seen the first part of that. I guess I should get around to seeing the rest but I've been lazy. o-o

Hmm... Anime I've watched... That's too long of a list. xD For the newer ones that really stood out to me: Honey and Clover, Nodame Cantabile (JDrama version is good too), Gurren Lagann, Lucky Star, and Denno Coil. I like others too, like Ouran Host Club, but they just didn't stand out in comparison. For the older ones: Macross, Cowboy Bebop, certain early Gundam series, and some others. Sailor Moon was what got me into anime though, thus, holding a special spot. Akira Toriyama's art is what got me into RPGs xD That's off topic though.

Some series, I prefer the manga, some I like both. Then there's some I've barely just started reading the manga.

I'm currently watching: Clannad, Shakugan no Shana II, Moyashimon, Minami-ke, and... the remaining eps of Denno Coil as they get subbed. I did watch the first episode of Gundam 00 and some other series, but haven't felt the desire to keep up. So far, nothing really stands out to me... yet. I think of the newer ones, Moyashimon stands out the most. Minami-ke pretty much kind of reminds me of Lucky Star but less cute and not as funny. o-o I think I'm forgetting one or two... *shrugs*

I used to watch Naruto, FMA, Bleach, et cetera, but I got lazy. o-o For Naruto, the only recent ep I've seen is for the new season, ep 33 because Team 8 was shown in it. I don't intend to see the others. I've kept up with the manga though. For FMA... I'm just behind. ^^; Same with Bleach. I've only kept up with Naruto because I knew where to find them. By the time I could find Bleach and FMA, I was too lazy to keep up. xD

I want to see The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (<--- *had to copy and past that* xD) because I keep hearing it's good... I recall hearing a lot of about Honey and Clover being good, but the title didn't catch my interest so I didn't bother... Until i was bored and gave it a chance. I feel in loved with it. xD There are some others I want to see too, I just don't remember the titles or the title is too long for me to remember the whole thing.

Oh, but FMA only has 51 episodes + a movie that concluded the anime! You should go and watch it! It's the bestttt. 8D

Esen 11-19-2007 04:10 AM

I saw the end of episode 51. I didn't know it was on and happened to walk in when my brothers were watching it. As for the movie, I read about it, but I probably won't get around to it until I'm bored. There's a lot on my "To Watch" list already. o-o Oh, but I did see a mini special thing with all the characters as chibis having a little party thing after filming the movie. It was cute and funny. xD I was a bit confused though since I saw it before I knew what the movie was even about. After I read up on it, it made more sense. I also saw one with what looked like Ed, Al, and Winry as kids in modern times. That one was nice too.

I'm sure I'll finish FMA one day, I was half way through (Ep 30).

Wait, what?! I didn't see this! D: Maybe I'll try downloading it again, because I got it when it was first subbed... and not the DVD version... so maybe I missed out... D:

I only saw it on YouTube. Someone linked to it from... somewhere. I don't remember, I know it wasn't a friend... I think it was on another forum...

Guu? What is Guu? o-o Hmm... *googles* Hmm... If I ever get access to the episodes, I think I'll watch it. There's a lot of series I want to see, some I don't because I can't get the episodes. xD

Lesser known in the States at least. Maybe 1 out of 10 anime fans I've talked to have even heard of those series, much less watched them.

Haha, when I first played Lineage 2 oh so many years ago, Lafiel was taken, so I switched to Lafieru, which I decided to stick with ever since. ^^ And yeah, I used to love watching Mushishi whenever I had insomnia. Watching Mushishi at 4 AM in the dead of night = so much win.

OMG! It's out? I watched episode 1, but jeez, I can't believe I'm so out of the loop that I missed that. ;_; Anyway, I LOVE Makoto Shinkai. Have you seen his other stuff? Check out Hoshi no Koe and Kumo no Mukou, Yakusoku no Basho if you haven't. I've watched them both at least 10 times, and listen to the OSTs by Tenmon regularly.

a.L 11-19-2007 09:42 PM

Hoshi no Koe was tragic. What was it? 18 years for the text to reach each other towards the end?
