Cutting out renders

What's the best way to cut out renders so they turn out really smooth? *o*

I usually use Magnetic Lasso to get close and then Eraser... but... better way?

Loveless 08-11-2009 05:33 AM

Use the pen tool. That way you can make curves. Set pixel to 0.

Hessah 08-11-2009 05:35 AM

I dont actually use the magnetic lasso tool anymore though... I find that it gives a picture a rough edge... I only use the rubber now..

What I saw Blaaaaaah did was to put like a red background rather than use transparent background...

it highlights better what you have rubbed out and what you havent..

and magnify it..

Ralath 08-11-2009 05:36 AM

^Yeah I did that too... lol. Last time she saw my render, I left little white splotches all over because I could see them. lol

Pen tool? Ruh-roh... haven't learned how to use that one yet x)

Enraya 08-11-2009 05:38 AM

I use plain eraser LOL. xD
But Pen tool is very helpful, as it lets you curve and make adjustments easily.

With background, what I do is usually I just cut it out on a black bg first (or if it's dark, white), switch to a white bg (or black if I've just used white) to get at the stuff I missed with a black bg, and then switch to maroon to see if it's turned out well.

Blah probably used the masking tool. That's a good way to do it too cause you can always go back to fix things. If possible do not use marquee or the eraser tools. It's baaaad.

Here's a tutorial... http://www.melissaclifton.com/tutorial-pentool.html

You can access the Mask tool by pressing Q and using the brush tool. Make sure your foreground/background is black and white (press D to reset and X to switch between the two). Black will be the selection while the white will be the non-selection.

I think Blahs just made a Stroke outline... That's what she told me to do anyway xD

Hessah 08-11-2009 05:42 AM

oh hey that pen tool~ I think I used to use that... once upon a time... somewhere along the line I ditched the tool... that was kinda like bringing back memories LOL

Ralath 08-11-2009 05:49 AM

Pen tool too complicated.

*dumps Pen tool for eraser*

lulz

Hessah 08-11-2009 05:52 AM

with the eraser.. you need to be very very slow... and very very careful... and do little bits at a time.. usually takes me an hr to do one xD

Ralath 08-11-2009 05:55 AM

kekeke xD

I think it's usually OK because you end up doing stuff to it so you can always smudge it out later or something... hahah xD

*totally unprofessional*

Hessah 08-11-2009 05:56 AM

LOL watch ralath... -blurs the whole picture-

"There! looks good now!"

Ralath 08-11-2009 06:13 AM

I never used a mask before cos I dunno how it works.

I just use an eraser, but I get it easy because I have a tablet. Then I just apply a stroke outline (set to 1px) to the pictures, and all the little pixels that isn't actually visible but is there pops up, and I just rub it out like that LMAO. But it's kind of tedious with a mouse.

Lirange 08-11-2009 03:20 PM

How is the pen tool hard to use?xD
You just click around the render o.o

Ralath 08-11-2009 08:14 PM

I kept playing with the tangent lines and messing up/they were not doing what I wanted them to do.
