Anti-virus/anti-...

I know this isn't exactly related to Fiesta. But it might be.

Anyway. Remember how a couple weeks ago I said I don't really like anti-virus softwares?

Well. Dammit. Should have knocked on wood because I think I have something now. =_='''''

Went on Facebook today and found that I had sent 20+ spam messages to my friends. I just spent the last half hour deleting those messages from their walls.. =o=

I already changed my password, and my e-mail hasn't been changed. I dunno how it could have happened. I haven't clicked on any links or shared my password. The only sketchy thing I've done recently is use a proxy for getting onto YouTube. But I have friends that have used it and THEY haven't posted spam on Facebook.... =_=''''

So I'm thinking it might be a good idea to start scanning for shet.

What do you guys recommend?

(Facebook recommends these online scanners):

http://www.avast.com/

Ew, avast.

Nod32 is what you want. Fast and effective if you actually take the patience to teach it. Scans a file before it's executed.

Dynamics 07-06-2009 02:46 PM

NOD32 is generally unobtrusive and low resource (v2.7). I back it too.

Otherwise Avira is pretty good. It'd be great if not for the daily pop-up, but that's fixable.

id go with ESET NOD32 antivirus 4.0.68.0

NOD32 isn't free. Avira AntiVir offers a free version and so does Avast.

I second Facebook in recommending http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner . It's always my "second opinion" virus check. However, it doesn't offer removal. It merely shows what's on your system so you can remove them yourself.

If you want instant analysis and removal, go for TrendMicro Housecall: http://housecall65.trendmicro.com/ (all browsers) or NOD32 online scan (Internet Explorer only). After this is done, get an antivirus like Avast Home or Avira AntiVir. Stay away from AVG 8 (it causes lots of problems and slows down your computer).

Like Dynamics said, Avira has this annoying popup telling you to purchase their security suite after every update. You can disable it by following this simple trick. Avast doesn't have annoying popups (it's the only feature-rich antivirus that is free out there) but has a lower detection rate than Avira.

There are alternative methods to getting software. Just throwing it out there.

I'm a fan of Kaspersky myself, it works well. NOD32 is good too.

pigspark 07-09-2009 03:25 PM

Id go with both NOD and kaspersky

ThievingSix 07-09-2009 10:20 PM

Never, ever put two anti-virii on the same computer....

Hraesvelg 07-09-2009 10:25 PM

LOL, I wasn't going to say anything. Sometimes experience is the best teacher.

Lirange 07-09-2009 11:16 PM

i just got nod32 after reading this
it came with anti spyware and smart security

and like triumph said, there are alternate ways to get software, and if you want it, i can give it to you.

ThievingSix 07-10-2009 01:14 AM

*disappears*

Basically going into options and customizing it to your liking. Nod32 does have lot of functions, but some of them are disabled by default.
