Rainmeter
I just customized my desktop with Rainmeter.
Bye bye choppy desktop icons. New Customized Desktop compared to my old one. |
Oooo thats cool :O I might use that xD How? x_x
Edit: Nvvmmm~~~ |
omg that so cool!
i'm going to try that |
how do you use this?
xD how would i make my desktop look like this http://customize.org/rainmeter/skins/63639 |
Oh wow that would totally help me during terms when I have like a bajillion files on my desktop. And when I accidentally knock off the cord for the dual display all the icons revert back to their default... x___x
Darn you for showing me something so interesting. *gets sidetracked* |

---- Anyway, for those of you who need help on using Rainmeter--- 1. First of all, you need to download and install two programs. The Rainmeter application from here.(Make sure to download the right version for your computer.) And WinRAR in order to unpack the skins for the Rainmeter application to run. 2. After you've done installing the programs, go ahead and download your skin. I got mine at Customize.org, though I'm pretty sure there are other sites out there with other rainmeter skins. 3. Unpack the skin with WinRAR. Make sure your skin goes into a folder when you unpack it! 4. Copy the unpacked skin folder. 5. Go to your Rainmeter Program files folder (My Computer -> C:/ -> Program Files - Rainmeter) 6. Paste your skin into the 'Skins' folder. 7. Run the Rainmeter program from the start menu. An icon on the taskbar should appear. 8. Right Click that icon. 9. Go to 'Configs'. 10. Find your skin and use it. -----OPTIONAL---- 11. If you want to change anything on the skin, right click Rainmeter again, go to your skin, and click 'Edit Skin'. Then a notepad of codes will appear, and here, you'll have to code the skin to meet your needs. Don't worry, the codes are easy to understand. Anyone with basic knowledge of html, bbcode or css will understand how it works in a few minutes of playing around with it. At least I did. If by chance, you don't know any coding at all and is stuck, I'd suggest you'll have to search for Rainmeter tutorials on google. I'm sorry, but I don't know how to explain how I coded Rainmeter. :zip: After coding, you'll have to refresh Rainmeter "Refresh All" in order for the changes to take effect. 12. You'll have to place Rainmeter in your 'Startup', so it automatically starts up on its own when you turn on your computer, and don't have to manually do it all the time. |
Hmm intresting. Gotta try this out.
|
... Wasted an hour or so playing around with it (when I should be finishing my major project |||orz). Definitely going to look into it more once I'm on my break.
This is what my desktop currently looks like... Based it off of another design and played with colours and such. *goes to look for good Soul Eater wallpaper* Thanks for sharing the app(?). XD |
Wow that looks cool!! I like that clock!
Gonna go home and try it! |
oh thanks, now i get it!
can you tell me how to make my icons like yours? like just words?x] |
Yar.
Only problem is the yellow won't look bright and cheery like the wallpaper. *looks at corner* Man, my connection sucks, 2 bars. *0* |
Oh yeah, there's also one thing I couldn't figure...
Did you just hide your task bar? |
Quote:
You will need to code them to make them work. Quote:
It shows this little annoying line at the bottom. ObjectDock has an option to completely hide the taskbar, and I'm going to try that out soon. |
ooh okay thankyou, going to try that to
and yea i hide my task bar too didn't know you can completely hide it.. going to try that |
Did a quick search on google and found this: http://hackyourday.com/2009/01/11/ho...-not-autohide/
No worries, the program is safe despite the url address. :P Completely hides your taskbar... though not quite sure how to keep it perm cause it seems like I need to keep clicking it.... x___x Oh well will look into it later. |
wheres the extreme app launcher?
cant seem to find it |
Quote:
Exactly why I took a look into ObjectDock. I'm trying to find a dock theme that uses only text and no icons, that way I can keep my desktop 'icon free'. Quote:
|
thankyou!
|
hmm, if anyone else is using this, this may help you
http://www.ipi.fi/~rainy/Rainmeter/Manual.html and if i get rid of my recycle bin and my computer icon, will anything bad happen? because it doesnt say its a shortcut.. Or should i like put it in my documents then delete that shortcut? |
I used Window's TweakUI to get rid of that safely.
(Tweak UI was made by Mircosoft itself, so no problem.) |
get on msn?
i cant seem to configure itxD i cant even change the text-_- oh wait nvm i needed to refresh itxD wooh! one button working oh i still have the question about the icon thingy should i just put the non shortcut inside my documents then delte everything on desktop? |
I would get rid of the Recycle Bin using Tweak UI.
Right Click -> Arrange Icons by -> Uncheck 'Show Icons on Desktop' And blegh, Object Dock. I have to make an individual text icon for each of my application. Plus, it doesn't include the application task bar where I usually go to edit Rainmeter. I guess I'll keep it on auto-hide for now, till I can get something good. At least the annoying white line doesn't show on screenshots. @_@ |
is solid color the code i need to change in order to make my words black?
gah, so much editing |
I think its 'Font Colour', the ones in every program code.
Code:
[MeterFirefoxDuble]You'll need to find out black's colour number. |
I'm using Emerge Desktop and once you get used to it it's actually not bad. Took me 5 minutes to figure out where the hell everything went... lol
I completely "hides" everything. And you access your usual Start menu by right clicking on the desktop. http://emergedesktop.org/ http://emergedesktop.org/FAQ.html Once you reboot or another tutorial said you can just log off and on there will be a box at the top left. Ctrl+click/drag will show the "task" bar and the open app box. You can customize the look of it to fit your desktop. |

Yup. One box shows all those things and the other is your open applications.
|

One last question. Does it support 'text' icons/shortcuts? As using text shortcuts instead of icon/picture shortcuts? *hopes my dreams of a no-icon desktop will come true* |
ehh, i cant seem to make my side bar so that its transparent
Quote:
i tried backgroudmode=1 but it still stays black oh and when its transparent, can you still see the box? Or will it be like, totally invisible |
Quote:
|
Quote:
Making it 100% transparent will make it completely invisible! Quote:
But anyway, my dream is to get something like this guy's desktop (without the taskbar and choppy icons). No icons, just sleek neat text, its awesome. Technical difficulties and the need for the taskbar tray keeps me from that. |
how do i add another thingy for the word icons?
i only have my document i delted everything else i tried copying the my document file, just changing the name and opening location, but it didnt show up -_- oh and LOL theres a transperency mode if you just right click itxD |
I suppose a way around it would be to create text icons for the things in the task bar? But I like that look with all text.
|
spending so much time on this
things are changing little by littlexD and i just need to know how to make a new "link" that can go below "My Documents" and also, how do you link to my computer and recycle bin? |
You people reply too quickly. :hulksmash:
Quote:
(oh gosh, how do I explain this :cries:) Basically, there's an X value and a Y value for the place of every text link. Give me a minute to think up an explanation on how to change the X and Y values. :err: Meanwhile, lemme ask you. How many text links do you have? Quote:
Thats the problem. :cries: I have to make a text icon for every application I have, which is very tedious. Unlike Rainmeter, where I can just code it in, and it automatically makes text for me. |
i only have one text link
my documents and how do you link to my computer and recycle bin? |
Give me the code you're working on for 'My Computers'.
And I don't think you can link to Recycle Bin. |
i dont have a code for my computers?
i'm asking how to link it unless your talking about my documents link Quote:
|
Go to a code whereY=25.
Try and configure that into 'My Computer'. |
..
what? xD i dont even have a link to my computer here forget about my computer all together i want to code to my music it'd be easier if you showed me your codesx] like, what are the codes for "play" and "firefox" on your desktop? |
