To those who grind 24/7...
...why? Seriously, I'm super-curious as to why people feel the need to constantly grind grind grind all day long. Same to those people who play a game, grind 24/7, quit it, and immediatly find another game. Its like they are constantly playing games, nonstop.
I mean games are fun but some people are just -wow- consumed. Like I've had people go, omg you've been playign this for so long why aren't you levle 13940234832 yet?~! Hoy. Seriously, I'm interested in people's responses xD |
To me, when i start a new game, i grind because i want to:
1. explore the environment 2. find the goodies (weapons, gears, whatnot) 3. see what's to challenge (monsters, quests) 4. get the next spells, powers, skills, or whatever you get when you level up I gotta say that i don't go 24/7 but i do grind some days. Oh and when i think i've seen enough, I hope on the next train to the next game. Like i did with all the mmos i've played: UO, EQ, FFXI, WoW, FlyFF, and now the new flavor is Fiesta :) Now that's on a good 10 year span. |
I grind because im only lvl 15 an di want to geta higher level so that people will actually take me seriously when I say Im good at Fiesta
Just out of Curiosity, what lvl are you guys at ? |

I usually grind because I have a goal. I play a lot but I actually only grind about 2 hours a day. Other than that, I'm questing, helping someone, hunting for GGK, or just chilling in town.
|
I don't mean grinding in general, I mean people who sit there all of their time to grind, lol
|
A full time grinder probably has no full-time job, spouse, kids, etc plus games are fun. Instead of skiing or working on cars, maybe their hobby is video games?
|
I don't know how people can do it to be honest. I tried to straight grind for a couple hours over the weekend, but I just get so bored I can't stand it. It's one thing for me to play for hours while working on quests and/or in KQs, because even if I'm not cranking out the levels at maximum speed I still get some feeling of accomplishment.
I imagine once the quests dry up you kind of have to just grind out the levels if you want them, though. That's probably why I never make it to the big time in mmos I think. Just planting myself in a spot and killing the same things over and over forever isn't for me. I think a lot of people just get kind of obsessed with gaining those levels. I love to level too, but when it gets to where it takes days of effort just for a couple ticks on the xp bar it starts feeling more like work than fun to me. That's about when a game usually becomes more of an interactive, animated chatroom than an actual game for me. |
I agree, goofing off in game > levels XD
|
I stand around more than level.
Offtopic: Are those monster title things stuck at Goblin Mage? I noticed just now it never changed. |
I have no clue D: Also, don't quit ;_; *clings*
|
Ya, it is stuck.
Don't worry. I debate it everyday. *removes* |
the only time i grind is when im trying to either level or earn money/mat materials. ya, its borning, but life cant always be fun :P
besides, usually ill get a group of guild members together to grind. that way there's people to talk to during.... |
well, I have seen both sides of the coin now. from opening day of teva server to a couple weeks ago i only got to level 28 on my archer. but since about last friday, i've gotten to level 23 on my fighter.
thats mostly because besides my core group of friends on Apoline server, i don't really know anyone so if they aren't on i resort to either farming or grinding (quests are boring as hell and give the worst payouts ever before level 30, and i already have a fame mule that just does repeat quests) Now i can say there is a certain fun element to grinding (especially when its not alone) so some people might enjoy the game differently than you. Although nothing beats goofing off in town. talking to people, playing hide and seek (that was the most fun i've had on fiesta ever), watching guild wars, perusing the shop for awesome discounts, etc. |

Back on topic, I just think it becomes a real problem when people think that gaining all those levels > everything else. -nudgesomie- If they enjoy grinding, good for them, but don't build up your ego just because the number on the top left corner went up by 1. G___G" |
Well, I grind because I have something to prove to people. Its a pathetic goal but who cares? We're all different. I'm always trying to prove that I am the greatest Mage out there. Its a silly goal but its also a very competitive goal. Because the moment I tell others they immediately assume they're the best and try to out do me. Also... I get jealous easily and seeing all those people at level 40+ just annoys me inside. It makes me want to try harder and harder until I get as good as them. I try not to grind 24/7 unless its with friends as it gets very boring and repetitive. But i'm also a quest whore so that usually lessens the burden on me at times.
|
once you reach lvl 4x-5x , you only got 3 or 4 quests..and like several hundredn thousand to level up..so grinding is the only way.
|
is grinding better than KQ at those lvls?
i get bored of grinding very easily... even when we're in a party and getting good exp.. haha i get bored... i thought KQ might be a good way of getting a chunk of exp in half an hr or something.. but i've also heard that its not worth KQing at higher lvls but i dunno why... |
Quote:
Robo KQ gives around 8k exp. Solo grinding Harkans for half an hour yields about 25k. Even if you party up somewhere, the optimal experience gain shifts from KQ's to grinding. |
Ohhh makes sense... thx!
|
The only time I would grind is when I see new weapon/equipment set right around the corner. Then I'll actually sit for awhile just bashing monsters. Now with my cleric at level 40 I just can't get myself to doing anything.
Now I've started on an Archer at level 25 who only does KQs which doesn't give out the most experience maybe but is a whole lot more fun than grinding my butt off. Plus, I've started being recognized by some people for KQing all the time... |

I'm not really at the level of true grinding yet. 40, FTW! I'll get eventually, just hopefully I wont become as obsessed as some. I just want to be at the level of having no life that most Korean players have. ^.^ Its fricking insane. There are so many level 80's that it isn't funny. |
Well I grind cos I wanna play with my friends. They're always running ahead because I only get my modem at night. So I try to grind as much. As for 24/7... It's doable. Definitely. If you are really into playing the game, you don't need to eat or drink. Just go to the toilet a lot. Well that's my experience of playing 18 hours a day during the holidays.
|
Well, from what I know from my friends (They are the ones you are asking about), its just competition with other players. Its that need to be the best out of the people you know, plus, they have absolutely no lives. All their friends are in the game or online 90% of the time, they have no significant others, and they have nothing but free time. I've tended to grind for a day or so but the only thing keeping me sane from it was that I was talking to my friends on the phone or AIM or be at their house.
|
I think if i tried to grind solo for over half an hour i would kill myself if i had no1 to talk with...
Thats just me but id rather play with some people and chill than solo just to gain lvls, thats why i play a massivly multiplayer game and not a solo rpg. |
Yea I'd probably die too unless I'm sleepy where I'll just grind until I fall asleep infront of my computer.
|
Yeah, grinding alone can be one of the most mind numbing activities I have ever participated in. Two hours of solo grinding with absolutely no contact with other people is the mental equivalent of Solitary Confinement.
|
Well during grinding just find another person to talk to.. hopefully they're not a bot or they don't speak english. If you can't find someone, you can always try chatting in shout or just talk to your guild.
|
I dont have a guild and i dont really shout...
if im training alone, which is rare, i usually just whisper a friend. Thats works pretty well but after about an hour of that i get bored xD |
When you say 'grind' do u mean train? lols, I'm sorry, I am new to this word XD.
I don't play games often, but when I do it's with my friend's or when I want to level maybe 1? or 2? Sorry my english is not good that much. x-x' |
yup ^o^
ding ding ding my 700th post :O |
grind-(gr ie n d):
1. To play a MMO for countless hours doing a simple task such as killing easy monsters to level up slowly. 2. To ruin your mental state by having no contact with other human beings doing menial tasks. |
Killing easy mobs?! i've always thought grinding as killing mobs at ur lvl or higher.. for no purpose... (like not for quest and stuff).... =/
|
Lulz. I have totally done the second one.
*Brain oozes out my ear* xD Anyways, when I was getting to level 30 during the x4 EXP event Steam had going I just got a Cleric friend of mine and we grinded at Burning Hill for about an hour or so. Then we headed to Moonlight Tomb. I probably shouldn't have wasted my time in Moonlight Tomb. I probably could've just hit Collapsed Prison and went up to level 35 or something. But grinding is so boring especially when no one is talking. Gotta have some sort of human interaction to keep yourself going. |

I always feel kinda silly when i see that. |

well, i got at least 1 explanation.

I know whats worse then partying were ur the only one talking,
Partying with 4 other people (girls in my case, but doesnt have to be) who are having "Girl Talk" in their own made up language. Happened just today when i was partying with 4 Iyslan_Girls Guild members, one moment having a nice conversation next, here them saying things like "tagaka ake magze shorte albe (when they say that i get most freaked out) aoge" or things like that. But that was not a very fun experience on my part, I did gain 50% all the way to the next lvl though, so i guess it worked well. PS: Albe= japanese form of Albeir my IGN but i couldnt recognize any jap words.... am i just being paranoid (i dont think so lol) |
