2012

ok, so most people have probably heard about the supposed disaster in 2012... who here believes in it, and why?

for those that havent heard of it, the world's supposedly going to end in 2012, according to some ancient calanders of the mayans, and egyptians, i guess...

i personally doubt that it's true, but it's a possibility... and it's scary to think that the world will end when im still so young... i havent really gone far through life... and... idk. it's just really scary to think of everything i know and love and hate being just... wiped out.

so does anyone think that the theory that the mayans proposed is correct?

Vasu 04-23-2009 03:05 PM

Well, I haven't seen what the Mayans based their calculations on, but according to a small section of Hindus in my country, the world was going to end about 3 days before the launch of the Hadron collider (nothing to do with the collider, I just don't remember the date :o), so you gotta take these things with a sack of salt.

On a side-note, I wouldn't really mind if the world ended in 2012 though... but I'm not suicidal or homicidal.

Yosei 04-23-2009 03:52 PM

I don't really take that stuff seriously. And why do people worry about that crap anyways? If the worlds going to end... the worlds going to end, nothing we can do about it.

^ that's why I worry, cause I/we can't do anything about it if it does happen ;~; though yeah, I don't take that sh*t seriously too.

But then again.. I DON'T WANNA DIE T____T I'd be 18 by then, the "legal age" lmao >>

Oh and straight to the point; I'd go against the theory being true. But yeah, there are still what ifs..

taran11 04-23-2009 04:25 PM

They doing that to make money.somethign was gonna happen at year 2000 rigght something happen?no.so preety much htye made a lot of movies about it now they doing same thing again.whoo knows might my geuss xD

Loveless 04-23-2009 06:58 PM

Didn't they also say the world was going to end some years back too?

I've heard that the Mayan calendars are very accurate. Some of their dates correspond to the 9/11, the tsunami, etc. And the calendar ends at that supposed 2012 "disaster". I just think that maybe they just couldn't see that far into the future and had to stop. But hey, its just what... 2 and a half years? We'll see what happens.

Lirange 04-23-2009 08:35 PM

no i don't believe it,
but if it were true, i wouldn't want it to happen.
I'll be 17 by then, still lots of things i want to do with my life.

Hraesvelg 04-23-2009 08:54 PM

The world will end, so you should give all of your worldly possessions to be beforehand. You won't need them.

A_Forever 04-23-2009 08:58 PM

Lol. Nope.. don't believe it xD

I'll be 18 by then. If the world does end.. at least I graduated high school before it did. Haha.

srabble031 04-23-2009 08:58 PM

did you know?

20+1+2=23
or
20+12=32 (which is 23 in reverse)
and
2+0+1+2=5 (which iis 2+3)

And Your Point?

Honestly it just like a lot of the above. It is a lot of hype (like with Y2K, God that's gonna be 10 years come next. eeek.), but also a lot of people/cultures do make these prophetic/end of the world "claims". Look at Nostradamus, who if I remember correctly also made predictions of the world ending in 2012.
But a lot of his "predictions" (like with Hitler & WWII and 9/11) had been retrofitted to current events.

i think it was like 1992 or something O.o

but meh xD i dont really believe in it much, but you might as well take it as a possibility. You should be living your lives like there's no tomorrow ;D

Jikanu 04-23-2009 10:16 PM

but it's supposed to involve a meteor crash, and from what i read online, some scientist is getting prepared for it. it'll suck massively if we're all wiped out.

Then again, it'll suck for him if his years of preperation turn out to be for naught, since he stopped working in the 90's or something so that he would have just enough money to survive to december 2012...

lol... i can imagine him in his bomb shelter when the clock strikes midnight for the day after it's supposed to end and him being all like... "hellllllllz no...."

Yosei 04-23-2009 10:27 PM

I read a few years ago that in 2014 a meteor or w/e is supposed to fly by Earth.

I have a WW2 bomb shelter in my backyard xD my area used to be a military base and its hidden under our shed. It looks like a dungeon.

But yeah, many many things have been predicted, and they could predict things back then, I'm sure our psychic and holy beings today could predict such things. If it happens, it happens, its better to not know and die going about your regular day then live in fear counting down the days. And I also look at it like this...

Its kind of like pain... if you don't know you have a cut, you won't feel the pain, but once you see it, you feel the pain. Its like things are fine when you don't think about it, but then when you start thinking about it, you screw things up.

What if someone told everyone the world was going to end tomorrow and everyone believed them? The world would go into chaos, 24 hours of anarchy. Then oh shi-- nevermind! We just spent 24 hours fucking things up for ourselves. People have commited suicide, people have killed others, done things they normally wouldn't do.

Thats why I say we shouldn't think about it. If its something we can't avoid, no need in worrying about it, no batteries, water bottles or canned food is going to save you. But if its something like world affairs, yes... that is avoidable, but perhaps knowing if it were world affairs would be best to avoid knowing as well, because people would go paranoid and stress out over preventing it.

Jikanu 04-23-2009 11:27 PM

yeah... it just worries me, is all. i dont want to die yet x.x

it's probably false though... best to keep living as long as there's no imminent danger...

Loveless 04-23-2009 11:39 PM

I think the end of the world is the least of your worries.

Jikanu 04-23-2009 11:58 PM

How so?

Yosei 04-24-2009 12:33 AM

By worrying about the end of the world, you could be forgetting things that are more important at the current time.

Ralath 04-24-2009 12:40 AM

Trust me, if there's going to be a meteor strike that wipes out the human race, then you won't even know it happens because it will kill you so fast.

but that's what im afraid of... what if i go out durring an argument with my girlfriend, or after a fight with my parents... and if not me, what about everyone who DOES go out that way? everyone deserves to die the right way, you know?

Loveless 04-24-2009 12:58 AM

Then live life so that you don't do that. There are so many "what if" situations. Are you going to waste your time pondering about what could happen or are you going to live life and make things happen for yourself.

Thats why they tell couples to never go to bed angry. If you were fighting with your parents, it doesn't mean you don't love each other.

Sorry. That's not a right. That's a privilege.

Jikanu 04-24-2009 02:20 AM

it's not a right, but it's something every human SHOULD have... not must, but if you're going out, and you didnt like, kill people or something... you should at least be able to say goodbye to those you love...

Hraesvelg 04-24-2009 03:48 AM

I sometimes wonder what the color of the sky is in your world, mate. I really do. Life isn't some grand fairy tale. Nature is red in tooth and claw.

Wouldn't it be nice if we get to choose when to die, where to die, and how we die?

But most of the time, what you want, and what you get are different, because there's many things in life we can't predict, we can't change and we don't have control of.

Hazu 04-24-2009 04:14 AM

I thought it was Dec. 21 2011.. o= but least that's what my dad said when we were discussing it.

I doubt it'll happen. THough all of the ancient calenders were correct. It scares meto think of it honestly, but I'm going to go on in my life stil yet. I wanna go to collegea ndthen have a family. And yeah I hate thinking of future because we all die in the end x3 depressing world we live in.

im not saying it happens, i know life sucks, and the world sucks, and people die early, unexpected, unright deaths all the time, im just saying that when i leave the world, i would very much like to do it knowing that everyone i loved knew that i loved them. that's all i mean, not that the world is a fairy tail. im well aware of the evils of the world also, i assure you.

i read some more stuff online, and it acctually seems more like the myans were looking at it as an age of enlightenment. so it's all cool XD

but no, it was supposed to be 2012, around the same date though

Lirange 04-24-2009 05:08 AM

shouldn't worry about those things..
just live in the present

Then I guess that's up to you to do that, can't really blame that meteor flying at ya.

Gotta agree with what Ralath said - a privilege not a right.

Besides... if a meteor really does hit the Earth, everyone is pretty much gonna be in the same position anyway. I don't think there is much you can do. We will always be at the mercy of mother nature. sighsigh~

Hazu 04-24-2009 05:20 AM

xD Ah well sometimes when my parents talk I'm half listening and forget some numbers lol or he might have gotten the stuff mixed up

x3 Life is more happy when you live for the present...but keep an eye out for the future (job/educational type stuff) Imo :3

Just have your loved ones signed up to your Twitter account and set an automated script to fire off the message "I really love you" every half hour or so.

Why?

Ivramire 04-24-2009 06:54 AM

^Because it would be nice?

Loveless 04-24-2009 06:56 AM

It'd be nice of course but I don't really see how that would be a right...

Don't wait till you die to tell them you love them..

Show them now... And if you show them already... then I'm sure they'll know whether or not you get to tell them...

Ivramire 04-24-2009 07:05 AM

I don't see it anywhere in the Geneva Convention. Hmm.

The different culture's Doomsday-predictions are really interesting. Though the Norse Ragnarok seems like something out of a videogame.

nah, i do, i just feel bad for those who die without getting a chance to say goodbye and stuff. when death is unexpected, it's almost as bad as when it's imminent in a way. i guess it's different from the massive meteor theory, but like, in a regular death, everyone would live out life feeling bad about having that fight with you and worry about the same thing and stuff.

Yosei 04-24-2009 02:46 PM

Most deaths are unexpected. Its an unfortunate thing.

Hahah, that's what I think as well.
It must be so nice to live your life to the fullest... grow up, get married, have children, retire and live the old life. But there's too many if's in the world that makes it hard to walk this path of life completely. Too many if's that nobody had control over and nobody could explain. And if the theories about the world ending someday is true, that's what I would be most afraid about. What did this generation do to deserve a meteor crashing down onto Earth, or have the Mayan calendars mysteriously predict the death of the world? And what would have happened if nothing happened and I was able to live on? What kind of person would I have become and what kind of experiences would I go through? I don't mind dying, I just can't bear thinking about what would have happened if I didn't die. Nobody will ever know or think about what I could have become. That thought is evoking self pity in me, so I'll stop there~ xD

Of course it's not a right that every person would have the ability to do everything they wanted before they die, but it would be damn nice. Why is some person being punished because they were born in the wrong generation? Nobody wants to die early over something they couldn't have possibly changed.

But I guess in the end, everybody knows that whatever happens happens. If the world ends in 2012, then it ends. It's pretty hard to swallow that fact though hahah, that the world is ending right during the time when I'm living.

Btw, I like this quote v
