Some other peoples' children...

I am getting really ticked off at people who have been purposefully riding their movers through mobs and dragging them directly to you while you're soloing. This is the second time it's happened to me so far recently (once in Burning Hill and another time today in Moonlight Tomb) and I'm wondering if this classifies as a kind of harassment/TOS violation of some kind. Grr!

Waiting for these peoples' Karma to finally kick in. :hulksmash:

That is called "Training".....

It depends if they did it on purpose to kill you, or whether you're fighting on a busy path and... people kinda have to train pass you to get through the map...

One way to avoid getting killed by train is to move in the OPPOSITE direction when you see an train coming.. (so running back to where they came from...)

I think they gotta do it to you repeatedly to be classified as harrassment....

Not this time, sorry...

Thanks for the comment, but I'm afraid it wasn't "training" this time - otherwise I wouldn't be so ticked off.

As mentioned, these people "trained" on purpose - I saw them ride by me while I was in the middle of fighting other monsters and within moments, they rode into another two mobs, essentially gathering over half a dozen more monsters (including one other too strong for me even on its own - the giant slime in the middle of MT) and looped back around on their mover, rode them all right into me (while I was already occupied fighting other monsters) and promptly logged off. So unfortunately, they weren't just "passing through".

Believe me, I would have loved to have time to move in the opposite direction.

But thanks for the suggestion anyway. I, too, used to be more optimistic about the kindness of other players.

lol yes... thats training... pulling a aggro'd mob onto another person is training. You can report it, but you'd need multiple screenies.

Lol, if so, then they're sadists because I can't think of a better way for my character to get "training" - it's either train or die. :cries:

If it happens next time, I'll take screenies for sure.

The first time it happened to me in BH, they guy rode back and forth by me on his mover, all the while saying:
"I'm the fast and the furious, too fast for ya'll..."
"I'm the fast and the furious, too fast for ya'll..."
- over and over and over again, all the while gathering up any of the mobs in the area and running them right into me.

It never ceases to amaze me how, when people have an opportunity to be even remotely anonymous (such as in an MMORPG) their level of consideration for others decreases exponentially and they behave in ways they never would if that person were right there in front of them. It's an interesting testament to human nature, however, to observe what folks will get up to when they see there is no direct consequence their negative actions.

yes take screenies of them gathering and droping the mobs on top of you.

Unfortunately they could say that they were gathering and D/C'd when they got near you. It was all an accident. But we both know it wasn't.

Zwivix 04-22-2009 02:57 PM

Did you try to whisper to them? If you didnt it was some random noob gathering mobs then scrolling to town so they could train people.

Anyway take screenies and whisper them if they're still logged on they cant use the "I got DC" excuse.

I saw the same thing while serving with the US Army. You get these guys from small towns where everyone knows what others are doing and have done and put them in a place where there family and friends will never hear what they are up to and they go wild.

Eh.

Makes random acts of kindness stand out more.

I do wonder if some people start acting better with anonymity? That'd be something...

pigspark 04-22-2009 05:03 PM

hmm tht hasnt happened to me b4 since last week.

Loveless 04-22-2009 05:15 PM

These sort of things will never cease. They should do it so that once you lose aggro on mobs that they go straight back to where they were without turning on someone else. Of course, that does have its downsides but you might have a lot less complaints of being trained...

pigspark 04-22-2009 05:46 PM

hmm i c but i think its still kinda barbaric

Yeah, I tried to whisper them but they had logged off, as I mentioned. Very convenient. And I have now installed a screenshot program just in case for future. Jerks beware! *shakes fist* :-D

I remember back when I did my Philosophy degree, one of my profs commented on this very thing (ie. behaviour and lower crime rates in small towns being influenced not so much due to population but due to accountability vs. the anonymity afforded by large cities as well as the effect of standing armies in small towns - since the folks in these armies were in a place they'd likely never return to, they were less concerned about their own reputations and would..."misbehave" more ;-) without consideration for the people living there).

Very true. In contrast, I have been on the receiving end of many Random Buffs of Kindness lately for which I am quite appreciative. But maybe I should save that comment for the "Raves" forum instead of posting it here on the "Rants" one.

BRs are big on the training, and their lack of english makes the situation MUCH MUCH worse.
