I must rant and rage

For the past two nights in a row (all night long, until day breaks), a pack of coyotes have decided to camp out in my yard. They howl, bark, chase each other, fight, and are basically keeping me up all night long.

The fact that they are out in my yard bothers my dogs greatly and they grrr and bark, but since they are inside, that is all they can do.

They are not really bothering anything, excepting keeping me up at night.

If we get up and turn on a porch light or open the front door, they scatter, but will come back after the light goes out.

I want to shoot them, but my husband does not want to fire a gun in the middle of the night. He says the neighbors might get pissed. I say that the neighbors are already pissed at the coyotes also.

:arg::hulksmash::arg::hulksmash:

I need my beauty sleep!!!!!

Yosei 03-18-2009 05:43 PM

Call Animal Control? x.x they might capture the coyotes and relocate them somewhere away from the area.

Spirit 03-18-2009 05:47 PM

We live in the county surrounded by a lot of woods, fields, and pastures.

They already are where they are suppsoed to be, lol. :cries:

Hazu 03-18-2009 05:49 PM

:zomg:

But, they are right outside in my yard. They are so loud, I cannot sleep. If they were off in the woods or something, it would not be so bad. But, I can actually hear them when they wrestle around on the ground. That is how close they are to my window.

Yosei 03-18-2009 05:56 PM

Well they might take them deeper into the woods, or a different woodland area. If they're fighting in the yard, they might be a danger to animals in the neighborhood.

Reminds me of when those skunks took territory in my yard >_<

Yosei 03-18-2009 06:31 PM

They smell HORRIBLE when they are 10 feet from your bedroom window.

Gave me a headache.

Hraesvelg 03-18-2009 07:31 PM

I'd have to agree with shooting them. Then again, I'm in a very rural area. Neighbors are forever setting up targets in the back yard and having at it.

We like to shoot it off the front porch.

Shooting things in your backyard... I'm scared. :zomg:

A_Forever 03-18-2009 08:12 PM

That sounds like fun.

What's so scary about it? These are people who have hunted for years that have had training. These aren't drunken teenagers trying to impress someone by "shooting a cap" in something. It's target practice.

Spirit 03-18-2009 08:29 PM

I also live in an area where it is not uncommon to have bobcats come up on my front porch.

I think it was year before last that we had one camping out on our porch some nights. He was always gone in the mornings, but it was kinda cool when he would “scream”. It is amazing how loud they can get.

Hraesvelg 03-18-2009 08:33 PM

We occasionally have coyotes camp out here. Our neighbors (on either side) have horses, so they're interested in making sure the coyotes don't hang around. They do make a hellacious racket. One of my cats (he stays outside) is always funny when they come around. I'll hear them yipping around, go outside, and find my cat on the roof. Then, when I go to shoo them off, he'll trot out there with me like a badass. I haven't had to shoot any yet, because they only stop by about every six months and then run off when I go out there. These aren't used to humans, yet.

That is so hilarious!!!!!

Belaslav 03-18-2009 08:46 PM

Smoke 'em with smoke bombs? All you need is a couple of household chemicals mixed in the right proportion. Since your hubby likes to blow things up...

Phantom Badger 03-18-2009 10:02 PM

Ask the Neighbours about shooting them if they agree then have at it. But. Don't use some kidn of rifle. No.

Lure them close with some food theeeeen, COMBAT SHOTGUN TIME 8D

Hazu 03-18-2009 10:04 PM

;-; use... a pellet gun.. if you do it so you dont kill them...

That'll just piss them off and possibly wound them. Nothing is more dangerous than a wounded animal.

cillia 03-18-2009 10:55 PM

i like in the mountains and like.. all my cats have died from being eaten by a coyote.....

MikeyG 03-18-2009 10:57 PM

Buy a compound bow it won't make noise.

You can buy high powered ones that can kill humans.
I got a few buddies that got alot of property and one
had a giant collection of guns including pellet/bbs and if they can kill a human obviously t can kill a coyote.

Hraesvelg 03-18-2009 11:02 PM

Is this in the sort of manner that "anyone can be killed with a spoon" type argument? If certain conditions are met (distance, "lucky" bounces after impact) I could see them being lethal. I wouldn't want to bank on them might killing a coyote, though. No need for the animal to suffer, either. I'd want a clean kill.

that's kinda sadistic... might as well just shoot it in the head from a distance rather than tempt it with meat and then shoot it without killing it instantly... shotguns are quite inaccurate, you might not get a headshot ._.

however, the pellet gun idea would work if you shot them from a place where they couldnt get you, like from inside with a nearly completely closed window.

Hazu 03-19-2009 01:43 AM

Coyotes are shy animals and would flee from it. They flee from lights being turned on usually. Shoot near them or make the sound to scare htem off. Dont hurt it. Seriously. Killing animals that are doing no harm to you is absolutly retarded. Disturbing your sleep a bit and making your dogs irritated, but no harm. We're the ones who are taking up THEIR land. That they had first before we were there. Have atleast enough respect for the animals not to kill them or harm them to where they'd die in the wild. Theres many humane ways to keep them away from your property.
People who say to shoot the animal shave little to no respect for them and should be shot themselves. See how it feels to be driven out of the lands that they once lived because a "better" species of animal is taking over it, killing their prey, their territory, and polluting their waters.
Coyotes dont attack humans usually unless they're hungry enough, sick, or threatened enough. Same as wolves.

Triumph 03-19-2009 02:22 AM

Throw a grenade.

Hessah 03-19-2009 02:27 AM

Awww - don't worry. I will not actually kill them or shoot them. I love animals, just ask Lady. Even wild ones that keep me up at night. I might shoot at the ground in the direction they are, but not actually shoot them. I would be too worried, it would not be an instant kill and they would run off and suffer.
<---- hates to see any animal suffer.

It is just my rage talking. I threatened to shoot them the first night also, yet last night, I never even reached for my gun.

Grab a .22 and make some PEW PEW's.

Srsly, You are within your rights to shoot them. No one will care, Just do it during the day, (Preferrably before the no-noise regulation kicks in, Usually 9:00 in most places.)

Vasu 03-19-2009 12:20 PM

^ Have you even read Hazu's post?

We do not have a no-noise regulation. We also do not have a no-firing a firearm within city limits laws or any other laws that restrict us in anyways from using our guns.

And they take to the hills during the day.

If they came back last night, they did not wake me up, so I was able to sleep all night long, so now I am a happy camper.
