Umm.

So, my birthday is next month and for the past 1.5mths every time I have talked about buying something for myself, my mother would/will say, "Your birthday is comin' up."

But the things I was going to buy for myself, I wouldn't actually want as a birthday present xD

BUT.. I don't know what I want for my birthday. You guys need to help me think of stuff. (I don't think they'll just hand me money since they wouldn't do that for x-mas.. suppose I could try and just ask for the money =\)

All I've got so far is(I won't be getting all these as a present! Need a big list for my mom/step-dad to choose from. Like choose a few gifts):

DvDs:
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Twilight (Of course I want to own this train wreck on DvD)

Books:
Angels and Demons
Animal Farm
1984
------

Of course, what I really want is a computer. As in a PC xDD But I'd get that when hell freezes over. Sigh.

Hessah 03-11-2009 12:46 AM

Put the PC on the list anyway... doesnt hurt even if they don't choose it right? XD

A_Forever 03-11-2009 12:47 AM

Will do.

Hraesvelg 03-11-2009 12:58 AM

Me Talk Pretty One Day is one of my favourite books.

A_Forever 03-11-2009 01:04 AM

I'm a bit lazy atm. Wanna tell what its about? I actually was skimming the first few pages of the book. Actually looks interesting xDD

Zwivix 03-11-2009 01:07 AM

Asking for money or a gift card if your not sure.

Why Animal Farm D: reminds me of all my reports I did in High School on it.

A_Forever 03-11-2009 01:11 AM

Because Animal is erm.. a good book?(Haven't read it yet but I know I'll like it)

I like owning books I know I'll like. Except, I started to read Angels and Demons in 8th grade but it was towards the end of the year and I got really busy and had no time to finish it. Had to return it to my brother's teacher(Yuh. I was in middle school and borrowed some high school teacher's book @_@)

Triumph 03-11-2009 01:17 AM

Meh, Animal Farm wasn't that good.

1984 was good.

Do not buy Twilight it will fry your brain cells.

Hraesvelg 03-11-2009 01:17 AM

It's just a collection of short autobiographical anecdotes of the author. His writing style is great.

I saw it opening weekend. It didn't hurt my brain cells.

Nightmares from freshman year involving mass reports.

When it came out, some girl at my school saw it 7 times. And would not stop talking about it. That is why I say this.

A_Forever 03-11-2009 01:26 AM

I don't think that'll be happening to me. I go to a Haitian school. Animal Farm would be way over their heads

I'm not like that.

Hessah 03-11-2009 01:28 AM

Would you play... handheld consoles? I recently got a DS and its a nice time-passer... (pass-timer?)

A_Forever 03-11-2009 01:29 AM

Too expensive. (I think) Lmao.

I don't think they'll be going beyond $50. After all, its only my 15th birthday.

I'm actually considering buying a DS for Pokémon. Yes, I'm a loser like that.

Zwivix 03-11-2009 01:55 AM

Yea DS is pretty fun...if for some reason you get it, get Mario Kart is awsome.

Hessah 03-11-2009 02:09 AM

Ohh ok.. the $50 can get u the erm.. M3 or R4 card that lets you play d/l games LOL!!

A_Forever 03-11-2009 02:29 AM

Ehh. Not really interested in a DS anyway, haha.

Hessah 03-11-2009 03:14 AM

Do you need mp3 players or things of that sort?

Hraesvelg 03-11-2009 03:21 AM

Tell them you want a Roomba.

A_Forever 03-11-2009 03:21 AM

I'd like an iPod. LOL.

Again, too expensive.

Hessah 03-11-2009 03:24 AM

A_Forever 03-11-2009 03:26 AM

Lirange 03-11-2009 03:28 AM

There are alto of cheap mp3 players that are pretty good.
You can get pajamas;D

A_Forever 03-11-2009 03:29 AM

I don't wear pajamas?

I just wear like.. sweats to bed or something and whatever top. Yeah, I know, I'm awesome.

Belaslav 03-11-2009 04:56 AM

What about video cams?

Ralath 03-11-2009 04:56 AM

I liked 1984 a lot better than Animal Farm.

Animal Farm is a bit too dated while 1984 is timeless.

It does help to know a good deal about the Bolshevik revolution to know what the various allegorical material is in Animal Farm. It's still enjoyable on the surface, however. Sort of like Gulliver's Travels.

Yeah the new iPod nanos rock! They start at $150 though. :uhoh:

Oh, and while I'm at it, I strongly recommend that you read The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan.

You're actually suggesting WoT? You, sir, are a sadist, heh. 11 densley detailed fantasy books, some of which go on and on. The author died before he finished the last book and they're going to finish it out based on his notes. I mean, just wow. Everyone I've heard that read the series are only continuing on because they've already invested so much into reading the other ones.

I know...first WoT book I read when I was 13/14. Saw a book of the series years later and thought...this is still going on...?

Lirange 03-11-2009 12:41 PM

Whats WoT about?
I like good series, keeps me ocupied when i'm not on the comp and nothing to do

Senyx The Soulless one 03-11-2009 12:46 PM

1984

Makes me wanna read "Inventing Elliot"

Hraesvelg 03-11-2009 12:48 PM

Just check the wiki entry. It's hard to sum up an 11-book series of over 9000 pages in a forum post, heh.

But do you like the story overall?

WoT will seem like a complete rip-off of LotR through the first book, but the serioes takes it's own tone through the next three books. From the 5th book onwards, things slow down, and the series seems to drag on and on...all up to the 11th book, where events explode in delightful fashion, and leave you biting your nails waiting for the 12th.

Hraesvelg 03-11-2009 02:24 PM

I haven't actually read them. I got burned on long series after reading all of Tolkien's work and then Anne Rice. The only long series of books I ever read that I actually liked was the Gor series. I just don't want to invest that much into a series and be disappointed again.

Vasu 03-11-2009 02:34 PM

I don't think you will be. At any rate, aren't you a fast reader? It took me about 30 hours on my first re-read of the full series, so I estimate about 50 for my first read.

BTW, Parles-tu francais?
