Open Beta Announcement

We are pleased to announce the release date for Open Beta - 12:00 am (midnight) Pacific Time on March 17th. Players can expect the following to occur:

1. Closed beta servers will shut down at 10 am Pacific Time on March 16th.
2. All characters created in Closed Beta will be wiped. Clean slate for everyone. This will be our last character wipe.
3. The cash shop will be open for purchases with Zen when Open Beta launches.

I will discuss development plans for the next couple of weeks below, but first I wanted to announce something exciting: the closed beta contest!

Closed Beta contest

Our closed beta contest has two tiers, with prize criteria that can cater to everyone’s playstyle. Everyone has a chance to win!

First Tier

Everyone who has achieved level 40 or above will get 5 hours early access to the Open Beta. Eligible players will be able to start playing at 6:00 pm Pacific Time on March 16th. The early access will allow players to reserve their usernames, setup clans with their friends, and get a head start in the game. The early access will end at 11 pm on March 16th. All character information will be saved and be available when the servers relaunch.

Second Tier

The contest’s second tier prize is an exclusive pet: the Katsune Kid*. The Katsune Kid is a humanoid pet that resembles a white fox with a large tail. It cannot be tamable, and it currently even cannot be found in the wild. There are two ways you can win this one-of-a-kind pet:

-The first 25 people to achieve level 65
-An additional 75 players will be chosen at random. Players must have spent at least 10 hours in the game are eligible.

Winners will be contacted via emails on instructions how to receive their pet.

Patch Notes

A full changelog of the changes/fixes in this patch is not available. The following are highlights of the changes and additions:

-Announcements no longer scroll across the screen

-Tons of localization work has been done. Most of it has been in the higher level areas.

-Lots of new quests have been added to the game. These are distributed through all regions of the game.

-Fairy Tale quests are no longer automatically given to players. Seek out the Eldest Matchmaker in Pokari to get these daily quests

-Like Master, Like Pet. Masters who transform into monsters in the same family as their pet will receive a skill. It is only available when transformed and your pet is summoned.

-NPCs have studied the Rosetta Stone and learned to speak English. Please let us know what you think about the new voices.

-Interface tweaks for auto-help and transform

Next Steps

At this point we are focusing on stress testing and polish. The core mechanics of the game should be functioning as intended (except the known issues below). If you find any problems, please let us know in the closed beta feedback (http://eso-forum.perfectworld.com/forumdisplay.php?f=31) forum. I know there have been posts discussing gameplay mechanics and suggestions for improvements. We are compiling and evaluating the feedback, and passing along ideas to the developers.

Here are the major items we are working on:

1. This will most likely be the last patch before Open Beta so we can focus on finalizing the game.

2. We will be distributing free Etherbucks to player’s accounts next week for Closed Beta testing purposes. Expect to be able to try out the cash shop items by the end of Tuesday, March 10th (Pacific Time).

3. Events are being worked on next. We are aware that some events do not work properly (NPCs either do not spawn or do not give quests).

4. The final two dungeons will be completed

5. Grammar/localization improvements

Known Issues

-AOE attacks that do not hit monsters will cause your pet to attack you (but deal no damage).

-Dragoon Ethyr spell Ghostwisper has the incorrect description. It is actually a taunt.

-The Overrule Nascent skill’s description does not accurately reflect its effects.

-NPC audio cues sometimes cut off or only come through one channel.

-Overlapping text in the Instance Msg interface.

-NPC Wu Cheng’en name appears as Shenzu

-General Scruffins is forgetful; some of his fun quests are incorrect or incoherent. He will be taking gingko biloba before the game’s release.

-Some events are not working properly

It's just to make it seem like you have a perk. Saving a name, etc.

IMO, I think everyone who reached at least 30 should get a pet for testing the game out. And I'm sure that if you're over 25 you would've spent 10 hours all together. But seriously I want that pet. -drools-

Is the etherbucks going to be distributed to all CB players no matter how long they played?

Yup, it's for all players to try out but it'll be given before CB ends so... you won't get to keep it I think.

EDIT: New info... but the top 25 players is both servers combined. If less than 25 hits 65 then it'll be top 25 players in the ranking. -sigh- Less chance for me to get there... I shouldn't have stopped leveling ><

Okay, so Kharydbis has stated that it will now be 100 pets per server! Yay!

I think I'm still at 12x or 13x... >< Time for some major grinding.

Don't think I'll even bother with vending... as long as I have enough to buy weapon and armour I'll be fine.

I might try D3 a couple times... but they hit just as hard as the D2 bosses so I can't keep going on that one. x__x

It's probably better to assume that we won't get to keep the cash shop since it is before the wipe.

I'll probably try to get a clan going as soon as possible... 5g in 5 hrs... who knows.

Assuming it just goes to our account you could probably wait until AFTER the wipe to use it

It probably does go to our account? But it can be wiped... if I remember correctly Outspark gave CB testers some sparkcash to test out the shop and it was gone when OB started.

I have a feeling the etherbucks will be wiped. Assuming PW are money hungry people, they wouldnt want to give out free etherbucks just for you to use whenever. Atleast they will have the power to take the etherbucks back if you dont use it, or just remove everything including your characters and what you spent your ether bucks on during the wipe. As they said in the announcement, everyone will start with a clean slate, except for those who managed to get the pet for passing level 40.

It's actually getting to Lv65+ to get the pet. ><

But yeah, I think PWI players can confirm... I've been hearing that those who participated in their CB got xx amount of gold in etherbucks. Then again it can easily be different for ESO players. :]

It's not possible to solo the instance dungeons by yourself, is it? I tried to on a level 18 and got owned. 176k = a lot of exp though.

Getting 40 will be fun. Give advice, you high leveled people. :cries:

I wanna try to get to lvl 40
only lvl 18 now, didnt get to play for 3 days straight=/
Hopefully i'll get to play today and at least get to lvl 20.
Triumph, since we have the same lvl charcters we should lvl together;DD

I'm a level 25 Shaman and I can't solo the bosses in there Triumph. Everything else I can handle, but not the bosses.

You could solo the normal mobs in there... and that along will get you a nice chunk of money and spirit points. For the first instance you'll definitely need to be 20+ to do so with a good pet. Mystic/Conjurer you'll have to be near 25 maybe?

Bosses is a no go... you'll need a good tank for those. I have 2.2k HP and I still am taken down pretty fast since my def is only in the 70s. ><

There are daily 'events' for the bullentin board that gives you 2x exp for killing a certain type (ie. elementa, vena, etc). Do those as much as possible when it's on. And Derrick found out that you can stack quests as long as you're in a party. The party members do not have to be anywhere near you either so that'll speed things up. Though as far as I can tell you can only stack the same type of quests (ie. bulletin boards).

And... yeah if you need to kill large numbers of mobs send me a whisper I'll help you out. I usually get 2-3 quests that kill the same mob and just run around kiting the area. Not to mention do the mob invasion events!! Those give a massive amount of exp... most people should be able to level at least once. Got 3 levels that way yesterday. 1 level away from 40 now. :]

Is it possible for level 30+ people to enter the Crypt of Hunters to kill Baahu Magebanes, Blackbear Sovereign, etc? If so, I might need help with that...

The level limit is 35 for that one.

I'm 34 and I can still go in there. Let me know if you need help. I wont be able to tank regardless of my level though.

With the wine, I was soloing the regular mobs on my rogue at level 17-ish. xD

Yeah, but you really should save your wine for later. xD I learned that after it was gone. T__T

It's possible to go through the mobs in the first instance level at 19; I lose a little less than 1/10 of my HP each hit. The problem is, the bosses do 400 damage. That's a lot.

I can't tank, lol. Derrick, tank for me. :laugh:

The quiz bowl had been taken out with the last patch to be translated. But yeah there is someone who is level 70 on the east server. Two that are in their 6x... x___x

I jumped up to rank 107. >< Need to get over level 50 to be considered in the top 25 for that pet. -sigh-

If you can get me a lvl 30 green hat for my class, I can upgrade it and get over 2k HP. Then MAYBE i'll be able to tank. A the moment, I have 1770 ho with buffs. Now I have a healer pet too thanks to Loveless.
