This looks interesting. NASA is getting into the MMO business:

Ewh... educational mmo?
|
whut the flippers? xD
|
It looks fun. I've been in a couple of Mission Control/Shuttle launch/ops simulators and they were a blast.
|
I'm confused.
NASA is funded by government tax money. NASA is creating MMOs. Government tax money is funding the creation of MMOs by NASA? Am I missing something here? ._. |
Nope, that's about the long and short of it. This isn't exactly a new idea. The Army developed a FPS, after all. It became rather popular if I recall. America's Army was the name, I think.
|
How exactly will you level up and stuff though? just rising through the ranks? will you have to fight a random robot which controls the space shuttle and wants to kill you after you destroy it? O_O
and where will the real MMO parts come into play? it should be interesting to see... EDIT: Phew, i just made it within the necro margin... sorry... x.x |
Yeah, there are a lot of questions about it this early in the development process. It will be interesting to see how it turns out. On a side note, the necro thing isn't exactly set in stone. Since your post actually raised some pertinent questions and wasn't just "LOL" or "I agree", you wouldn't have been popped for a violation. No worries.

Oh, ok.
But yeah... random battles with HAL would be strange... O___o it'll probably be more along the lines of expansion of exploration though... that makes a bit more sense, if you think about it. like, assign a captain, design a ship, use the right controls, etc... it'll be interesting, to say the least... hope they dont screw it up... |
-Presses the self destruct button in a satellite- Houston, we have a problem.

Reminds me of a time I was part of a simulation of sending a live group to Mars. I was in the role of a Mission Specialist, trying to get instructions to one of the groups handling potentially hazardous samples on Mars. All communications had to go through one person/panel and that person was amazingly bad at it. They couldn't handle multi-tasking and kept playing "favorites" to her friends, which was drawback of doing this simulator with high schoolers, I suppose. A lot of my messages were lost and/or garbled/misunderstood. We had a radiation event because my counterparts on the ship got bored with nothing to do and just screwed around with the remote arm and radioactive samples. Good times.

Where was it i read that in the Future, The army would draft you depending on your skills, By observing your actions in a government-based game called "America's Army"
I thought it was funny! PREPARE TO BE DRAFTED INTO THE ASTRONAUT ARMY! |
You say that like it's a bad thing.

But it's space, the last truly unexplored place. There could be nearly anything out there. That doesn't excite you? Discovering strange new worlds? New forms of life that we can't even fathom at the moment? I'd give your right arm to discover the first non-carbon based life.

Would you be willing to give up your life in any manner of gruesome ways to see something as cool as an unexplored planet? |
Yes.
