Power Blackout :s

Back from a power blackout

So this record breaking Heatwave in South Australia (Victoria has nothing on us) finally gave us a power blackout. Because the electric company had to cut our power out on purpose to avoid the transformers from overloading.

I got worried that some of my electronics might've went since we have no surge protectors or anything. But everything seems good I'm so glad I had some frozen breakfast juice I put in the freezer earlier this morning that kept my throat cool but I was still sweating like mad though =\

I've got one fan blowing on me right now Im considering turning the other fan on and have 2 blowing on me at once. My bedroom seriously feels like an oven right now.

A_Forever 01-30-2009 04:48 AM

No surge protectors? o_o

Lol. My brother would rage right now if he saw that.

Kenryuu 01-30-2009 04:49 AM

Oh gawd, blackout. :O I feel sorry for you Andromeda, your room was like as hot as an oven?? That must be horrible.

cillia 01-30-2009 04:51 AM

D: if you could transfer just a lil of that heat over here pl0x. im freezing in my chair.

Andromeda 01-30-2009 04:53 AM

The power was out for 30 minutes but that was the longest 30 minutes of my life and the guy next door to us came knocking on our door to confirm his house wasn't the only one with the power blackout xD

I saw the article on the news that we were warned that the power plants in Adelaide would cut power to peoples homes to avoid transformers overloading but I didnt actually expect our power to be cut out :(

Hessah 01-30-2009 05:01 AM

Wow... no fan, no air con in that heat...

EWWWW

Belaslav 01-30-2009 05:03 AM

Worst heat wave I had caused even cold water in my shower feel lukewarm.

cillia 01-30-2009 05:05 AM

whenever we have heatwaves.. since our water comes from a well, we have like no cold water for showers D: it all turns either burning hot or really uncomfortably warm ._.

booyah8876 01-30-2009 05:10 AM

"Climate of Adelaide Article" Stolen from Wikipedia (Read the part I bolded):cries:

On the 26 January 2009, another ongoing heatwave struck the city due to a virtually stand still high pressure system that is dragging northerly air streams towards the city. The heatwave is breaking numerous records and occurred at the same time Melbourne, another southern Australian city, sweltered through a record breaking heatwave of it's own, wreaking havoc on that current year's Australian Open. The heatwave commenced on Australia Day 2008 with temperatures above 35 degrees. From 27 January onward the temperature has soared above 40 degrees for 3 consecutive days with another 3 days planned and no temperatures below 40 until at least 2nd February where the temperature is expected to reach 39 degrees celcius. This would be the longest straight run of 40 degrees plus temperatures in Australian history.

On 28 January, the third day into the heatwave, the temperature soared to 45.7 degrees celcius, making it the 3rd hottest day on record in Adelaide. On that same night, the temperature only dipped to 33.9 degrees celcius making it the highest minimum temperature on South Australian record.

Although relief is in sight over the western part of South Australia, Adelaide is expected to continue to swelter in 38 degrees plus temperatures until at least February 5 although minimum temperatures are expected to drop to a more comfortable 22 degrees. The heatwave is expected to equal or even break any record made in the 2008 heatwave.
As of Thursday 29 January 2009, the heatwave is still ongoing in it's fourth day.
