In combat
Last night in my guild, we were debating which build of mage would win when in a guild war.
For instance.. Geddy and I. We're both lvl 40 mages. My build is 1:2 INT:SPR. His build is 1:1 END:INT. They came to the conclusion that I'd win if we were to fight. Because.. even though he has more END, it doesn't really help mages. We still have low defense, it only gives him 150 more HP than me, but since I have more SPR, magic defense, and I have more chances on critting him. Also, I wouldn't run out of SP as quickly as him. I have about 300 more SP than him I believe. What build do you guys think would be best for pvp combat? |
Even though i've never participated in a guild war, my instincts tells me that SPR would totally own. Burst damage is what makes people lose their cool in combat. They'd expect a 300-400 hit (at your level i'd guess), but BAM! you get that lucky crit, and have him/her scrambling on their keyboard for their stone/pot.

Yeah, and Mana drain and purge are very useful in guild wars ^o^

Currently im going 1:1 Str, Int. Is that a good alround build or does it need changes?
STR doesn't do anything for mages. If you want damage, look more into INT, and SPR. Int does Mdamage, SPR gives you SP and raises your crit rate.
Whoops, i ment SPR and INT 1:1. My bad.
1:1 INT/SPR is a good build. Mages with extra defense doesn't make a difference, a fighter, cleric, or archer will only do around 10 less damage anyways. The HP bonus from putting points in END is good though...it never hurts to have more HP. But since a mage is a DPSer, some variant of 1:1 INT/SPR is your best bet...high critical and damage.
I hear after 25 SPR the amount of extra MP and critical rate goes down and its better to put it in Int, any thoughts on it?
im End : Spr built...with End rings and equipments stats..the extra amount of hp gain is useful..
I'm going 1:1 INT and SPR. So far its working out quite nicely. I just buy one ring of INT and one ring of SPR to constantly try and balance them out... despite the fact that SPR is still and will always be lower than INT.

im currently going 3:1 int:spr, this build is effective because u do a lot of damage, and if ur in a party with a good tank, I dont have to take much damage.
im thinking for lvl 100 i would go 69 int (with 18 from job change bonus it makes a +100 MDAMAGE)
then 6 end... too even skills and then 25 SPR... but other wise 75/25 int/spr (3:1) |
u put up to 20 spr go the rest int
25
ah yes,sry 25 spr
Hm.. I went 25 INT and the other 13 or 14 into END. Think i ought to buy the scroll and switch those END over into SPR? The extra HP is nice i guess, but it seems like the experts say the SPR/Crit is a better use...
I'd put them to SPR. Its slow for mages to solo, despite the damage we do. We do better in parties IMO. So the extra END isn't really worth it. Plus, it doesn't effect you significantly.
if end gave 10 health, it would be worth your worry, but yea. i dont know about buying the scroll. but you can just start putting spirit and if you feel you dont crit enough, or dont get hit allt hat much, then switch...
whats this scroll u speak of ?
hp does jack shit for a mage.... slap on a vit scroll get a cleric buff why waste points when u could be hitting high or getting extra sp which your class needs .... Y_Y ressponding to yosei yeah spr would win , those crits will startle the shit outta other mage and prob own before they could heal lol
@.@ I crit like hell now. Since I got my outfit, its not an uncommon thing for me to crit 3+ times in a row.
But thats not always good ;~; I steal aggro from even the some of the best tanks I know. |
i feel your pain yosei ^_^

The scroll is a cash shp item, and it only works on freestat points. I was hoping it would also work on skill points (i.e. cooldown, power increase). There's some text in that window which suggests we'll get to change those around w/ CS items in the future.
And you're all right: the extra SPR is pretty hot. although those 13 points in END (75 HP) were just enough to push me over 1000HP with a vit scroll. It was awful comforting to see a 4 digit number as my HP. The extra ink made me feel safe. Now i'm back down to a lowly 950HP or so w/ my vitality scroll on. |
