Grrrrr... I am so annoyed...
I hate all this adware I have. I downloaded Ad-Aware, and still I have adware. If I delete the ads, then I my Firefox shuts down, then I have to restart it.
I guess I'm just gonna do system restore... |
oh yuck..
you better back up all ur important files now... one day your computer will crash unexpectedly, and you'll need to format your computer... |
...
Great... Oh well, I got a 500GB External Hard Drive. I'll just put I'll my family's stuff on there. And I bought a 4GB Flashdrive from my school for $15, so I'll put my stuff there. |
do you share your computer with other people in the family?
|
Try Spybot/ThreatFire. I scan once a week and always find something new.

Lmfao kirby i have that EXACT same problem atm.
|
I've never found a way to get rid of all the ad/spy-wares properly...
no matter wat I scan my computer with... formatting seems to be my only solution... and... not to download so many more add-ons to programs.. (esp msn -.-) |

is reformating, just go get the memory sticks and save all your important files/pictures :) |
Use factory settings backup.
|
uhm I think thats what hes talking about bela?
When you do the restore its like when u first got the computer again :P |
System restore is like a checkpoint which saves your computer in it's most recent working state, where one is made every time before you install something, or use Windows Update.
Factory settings restore wipes your system clean, and reverts it to the out-of-the-box state. |
Ah I mixed up system restore with system recovery ( which is what I'm doing as soon as I find the little memory stick )
|
You guys need to cut back on the porn.
Firefox (NoScript + AdBlock) + Threatfire + Avast! + Spybot's TeaTimer = very, very little adware/spyware/malware. |
Yeah I just watch so much porn, my real life girlfriend doesnt do it for me :(
and I use most of what u said other then avast.. i use norton 360 ^^ |
Im not much of a computer genius, but AVG is compatible through lots problems, and it can almost scan for anything. Oh yeah...and LavaSoft works well 2!
And note, yes....please backup your files or your frkin fudged. Rly. My computer crashed the day a term paper was dude....and guess what? My teacher didnt buy the "Uh....my computer crashed" thing...so I didnt get a very good grade on it...... |
If you don't have access to server space somewhere, gmail is a good sort of poor man's offsite backup for certain filetypes, heh. Documents, pictures, music, things like that.
|
Or you can try Microsoft Live Skyspace. I think that's what it was called...
|
Couple of tidbits of info...
System Restore is not all that Microsoft claims it is. People think of System Restore, they think of "Oh my shiz iz fux0red, Ill use systmz rest0rz. Save meh Micro$oftz." but in reality all system restore does is takes a snapshot of your REGISTRY. Thats it. Not system files, Not core OS componants, Registry. Alot of times a registry conflict will arise and system restore shines like a champ, but nine times out of ten, it flops like Bijou. Spyware and viruses, from the first week of XP's launch, were infecting the files used for system restore, usualy found in the root directory in a folder called $System Volume Information (Forgive the lack of slashes as my keyboard is gay from time to time so I cant type out the whole file path). The little dollar sign is how windows marks folders that are hidden and vital to the OS. (Your Recycle bin is a folder called $RECYCLE) Alot like in unix and linux how a directory thats hidden has a period before the slash. ANYWAYS... So alot of times these malware count on you being a nub and using the system restore and plop. You reinfect yourself. Continuously. Another thing they count on is your browser choice. IE is targeted largely because most computer users dont even have any idea that you can use another browser. Hell, some people think because it says "Internet Explorer" in the title bar that you absolutely NEED it for the internet. :cries: Things that install spyware: TOOLBARS!! Google, Ask, MyWayWebSearch, those handy dandy bars are not made for free. They are more or less like payload trojans. CoolWebSearch is another one, this one is the absolute worst. Not all Spyware removers can get it in one shot. You need a special tool to get rid of it completely called CWS shredder. There are alot of other nasty variants. So chances are if you have one of those handy browser bars, SURPRISE!! You got spyware too. Free screensavers? No. Shopping assistants? No thank you. Little crap apps you dont need? Just say no. In reality the internet is alot like sex. Abstain from bad activities and you wont get viruses, malware, and other infective goodies. A good app to get is Spybot Search and Destroy, not only because its a decent spyware remover, but it hardens your browser as well. That helps out alot. I dunno, figured since im somewhat experienced with the issue that I would toss my 20 won in the cup. |
But Bonzai Buddy is the BESTEST! He's like a little friend that lives on my computer...
|
I know. I have the gold version and all my spyware scanners are set to ignore him. Not to mention I had a friend clip the parts of his code out that make him spyware. He is neutered spyware.
I had bonzi buddy neutered.... lolz |
LOL Mindspank HAHAHA I was scrolling down and was like "OMG Wall of text" but its so good and so true!!
THOSE TOOLBARS ARE EVIL!!!!! Everytime you download a program (or I guess get a program from anywhere), and install it, make sure you check wat every page of the installation window is asking for. Some may say "agree with terms and condition" and you must tick yes for those, but some are "would you like to install a TOOLBAR?" "Would you like to install ANOTHER ADD ON PROGRAM?" Make sureyou say NO for TOOLBAR or you're DOOMED. |
I'm not dumb, I never DL that stuff, I'm pretty sure mine came from dl'ing skate vids over Ares filesharing and turning my norton off... =.=
And again SYSTEM RECOVERY, not restore :) |
I was once upon a time dumb... and had a hard time learning my lessons LOL

BTW, I think I got the virus from a Myspace ad I accidently clicked on. For some reason it opened up in a new tab like when I open up the Fiesta magazines... Then I had delete the firefox process in the Task Manager, then BOOM! HEADSHOT! I got ads. But, now, after using lamchops' programs, I'm all good. |
Lmao, way to go Kirb.
