You mean one doesn't need to register to edit the wiki? That just seems like a good sense precaution.

:zomg: :zomg:

Just... wow.

Do people seriously edit the wiki that many times or is it like a computer program??????????

Loveless 12-03-2008 11:50 PM

Holy mot... yeah... shoot a PM to Entropy? Unless Blahs or Righty can do that. O_o

Destrus 12-04-2008 12:12 AM

they decided not to make people register to edit the wiki a long time ago because there were unregistered users really adding stuff to it and someone registered just to say they shouldn't...

here's the thread where it was mentioned before:

You'll be surprised how having to register deters opportunistic mass spammers. Registering doesn't take a lot of effort if you do want to contribute. Cynical as I am, I should also point out that most people who register output contribution that are both higher in quantity and quality.

The best way to iron out such spam is to require random image verification for inclusion of external links, but I have been told that this would not be implemented. The next best way is to place a global ban on the creation of new pages by unregistered users. This is not something soft admins can do. I don't have the time to click through all those new pages created this time.

Whoa, spammed again... When you go to the website, nothing is even there!!!

Gandalfa82 12-05-2008 03:49 AM

and for the question about the edits they were done via a program.

Some little script kiddie did that using a IP Spoofer which made it even harder. The fact they had an IP Spoofer in that changed their IP address while they were doing it prevented even a mass revert based off of IP and multiable reverts were required.

After this 2nd attack like this I would agree we need to lock edits down to registered users only. I know there are people who likes to do it via their IP address but they can sign up and it will only take a few mins for that.

And no the Wiki does not require people to sign in but they have a lot more support to prevent spam like this. It would be nice if everyone could just play fair and be nice but it seems that is just to much to ask for.
