Vote!

So is anyone 18+ and registered (and American) hitting the booths? I hope so:nahnah:

Why?

1. Gives you complaint rights if the person you didn't want to be president ends up becoming president.

2. More Americans have voted for American Idol than president :urweird:

lamchopz 11-04-2008 09:54 AM

lmao @ #2

Hraesvelg 11-04-2008 11:54 AM

Why on a Tuesday? Well, y'see, back in the early days...when...um...y'see...it's...LOOK A PUPPY!

Lady-Loki 11-04-2008 12:36 PM

So that drunk fools can sober up enough on Monday to remind the stupid fools to go to the polls the next day.

Hessah 11-04-2008 10:22 PM

LOL!!!!!!!!!!

it is always a tuesday? Like ours are always on a Saturday...

Yosei 11-04-2008 10:29 PM

It was like attack of the campaign signs @_@

Lady-Loki 11-04-2008 11:04 PM

Actually, according to this article, we vote on Tuesdays to accommodate farmers work schedule and worship days.

Here is the excerpt:

Quote:

The reason we vote on Tuesday makes perfect sense — at least it did in 1845.

To understand the decision Congress made that year, let’s imagine ourselves as members of early agrarian American society. Saturday was for farming, Sunday was the Lord’s day, Monday was required for travel to the county seat where the polling places were, Tuesday you voted, Wednesday you returned home, and Thursday it was back to work.

Carmasa 11-04-2008 11:05 PM

DON'T VOTE >:O

Hessah 11-04-2008 11:16 PM

Oh.. they farm on weekends?

Thanks Loki!

LOL, not much anymore, but back in 1845, when it was decided we would vote on Tuesdays, they did.

McCain is on cocaine.
Obama's an Obamination.

Ralath 11-05-2008 12:30 AM

So... not voting solves that problem?

great logic.

Triumph 11-05-2008 12:58 AM

No, you vote for Nader.

Not like the United States voting system is fair anyways. We're still on a system that elects individuals of supposed "higher" intelligence to cast our votes for us, even though it is clearly obvious that all politicians have low IQs.

I'm not using logic. I'm speaking my mind.

It was obvious Obama was gonna win from he first showed up. So whatever.

Vasu 11-05-2008 01:54 AM

I'm looking at the Yahoo political dashboard or something, and I can't make head or tail of it. What's electoral votes, and what's popular votes? What counts towards victory?

Carmasa 11-05-2008 02:08 AM

Our votes are just numbers and are (supposedly) in the Electoral voters' best interest.

Take us away, and it's all up to them.

I don't like what this country's about to become, but it can't be changed unless everyone (vast majority?) has an epiphany and McCain somehow wins.

If only. - -

Nevermind:cries:

Electoral college decides the winner. Electoral college is how many votes each state has to determine the Presidency. The electoral college is based on population percentages for each state. So a large populace state like California counts more than Indiana.

I personally believe that this way is outdated but Ehhh I dislike politicians any way.

Vasu 11-05-2008 02:13 AM

So I only have to care about the electoral votes?

Rightclaw 11-05-2008 02:15 AM

Electoral votes system = fail, imo.

Vasu 11-05-2008 02:17 AM

Yeah, we have it in India too, it's pretty stupid.

Hyper 11-05-2008 02:22 AM

Obama won!

Barack 'n roll!

Indeed.

Now we have someone who knows literally nothing about the military as the head of the military. Reduction of weaponry? Good one. In the age where weapons become ever more sophisticated, we will have a secondhand weapon system to defend us. I will admit that he has some good changes in mind, but one key McCain ad still rings true:

Barack Obama has little experience.

It's a fact, don't even bother to decry it. And no, I am not a McCain supporter.

Hessah 11-05-2008 03:53 AM

Well... you vote to keep the bad parties out.. so.. even though one of them "won" i guess it doesnt really mean he's the "best" but he should be a "better" choice out of the two.........

Dynamics 11-05-2008 04:01 AM

won't he have a fair amount of advisors beside him to cover for lack of experience?

Hessah 11-05-2008 04:03 AM

apparently McCain's advisor lady is awful.... LOL!

Well. The people will have to suffer with their choice, now.
Joe the Plumber, save us!

The President may be the Commander in Chief, but really. When was the last time the President was actually the Commander in Chief...? Washington? Jackson? No president governs alone.

I don't like what this country has become :P

The Commander in Chief does not necessarily have to listen to his advisers.

Therein lies the fear. The possibility remains that he may not like what his advisers say, and proceed with some unknown agenda that may cause devastating military strategic losses.

The equivalent is like handing a non-gamer a game like Command and Conquer/StarCraft, and asking he or she to conserve the most resources, eliminate the opposition, all the while trying to minimize the loss of life.

Whereas the examples I draw upon are imprecise, they nevertheless are sufficient enough to explain what I fear.

It is also duly noted that Obama proposes quite a bit of "change," including reduction of taxes. Therefore, I have but one question: Where will that money come from? Funding will still have to come from somewhere.

Hessah 11-05-2008 10:35 PM

If you have a pro sitting along side with the non-gamer, teaching him how to play the game.. as long as the non-gamer is smart and is willing to accept help... He may turn out to be a decent gamer...

Yeah we've had tax cuts too... so we're richer, so we spend more and pay tax on our expenses.... on a very simplified version of things

and i'm sure Obama's advisers would be better than that lady who's suppose to be advisor for McCain? LOL!!

Hraesvelg 11-05-2008 10:37 PM

As opposed to the wonderful job of the commander in chief we've had the past eight years or so? The policies of which John McCain supported? Yeah, we would be much better off with a hawk in office.

That's what we've had the last eight years. And I don't even necessarily mean militarily.

Scientifically, the Bush administration has outrageously suppressed information. Don't agree with the policy? Fine. But at least let the evidence stand for itself.

And let's not forget his Karl Rove and the firing of U.S. Attorneys that the administration didn't like.

Seriously? And yet you seem upset about 8 passing? Are you aware of how anti-gay marriage McCain is?

And yes, the Electoral College is crap.

Hraesvelg 11-06-2008 01:07 AM

To be honest, both candidates explicitly stated that they opposed gay marriage.
