Grrrrr

I really dislike people that set up a shop RIGHT BESIDE yours and sell stuff for just a few coppers/silvers under you. Seriously????????????!!!!!!!!!! I realize it is a free market and all that, but damn, go somewhere else. They do not have to set up almost on top of my shop and then advertise their price in the message. I know it is on purpose. Go away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Move!!!!!!!!!!!

kirbysprite 10-21-2008 12:01 AM

LOL. I remember seeing that. They put their shop name as, "Cheaper than [insert name here]."

Hraesvelg 10-21-2008 12:15 AM

Just wait until they get the auction house set up. Then they won't even have to sit next to you. They can snipe your prices from anywhere in the world, heh.

Hessah 10-21-2008 12:21 AM

yeah i hate that too.. esp when you SEE them set up their shop...

if i have time i usually close my shop and see how much they sell it for.. and adjust it LOL!!

but then again i've set up my shop next to others too... only when i'm trying to sell my stones next to smith though XD

Andromeda 10-21-2008 12:44 AM

Its annoying but that's business for you fighting competition.

At our shopping centre we had a KFC then a few months later a McDonalds opens up right next to it to steal their business.

Only way to beat them is to lower your prices even further.

Belaslav 10-21-2008 03:32 AM

What you just witnessed was the generalized version of how global economy works...

Yeah, that was me during CB2. Lmao.

Just as in the real world, there is no relationship between what something costs, and what it is worth. Undercutting the nearby competition is a good and a fair tactic. The customer then has an option to compair prices and make a choice. I make all my stones and scrolls from my own drops so there is no "out of pocket" and every thing I get is 100% profit.

I like to lowball my prices to move the items from my inv quickly and make my $$ on volume.

If someone is underselling you then you can buy up their stock for resale. If you see me with a store near you by all means, buy my stock. Beware however that I may have more and will set right up again!

There is just no need to be greedy (not that I am saying you are). I often see plp trying to buy mats for less than NPC prices and that is just trying to cheat plp. I also see hugely overpriced items such as rings that drop like rain
and learning scrolls that can be purchased for 1/10 the asking price.

Let both the buyer and the seller beware.

Spirit 10-21-2008 02:56 PM

Yes, I understand everything that everyone has said. My problem, comes when they set their shop up right next to mine, so close that when they sway they intertwine, and you know it is intentional. Move a few feet away.

Here is what has happened so far. I had mine set up for 9 silver. They set up practically on top of me selling for 8.8.
I set back up selling for 8.5. They set back up selling for 8.5.
I set back up selling for 8. They set back up for 7.9.
I let him sell out, reset back up for 9 again.
They are obviously stalking my shop.

I know it is fair it just irratates the stew out of me, when it is blantant and obvious.

Vasu 10-21-2008 04:23 PM

I just let things be. So the guy is desperate. I dun give a damn.

Silent Wizard 10-21-2008 05:09 PM

LOL in the olden days they called that a "gas war". One gas station would drop and post their price then another across the street and go just under and so on and so on. The consumer was the winner. They also gave away prizes for buying their gas. There is no word for it in English but the Italians have a word for it. "legnappe", which means "getting more than you expected when you purchase something".

There is another tactic that is more like what you experenced. That is called "predatory economics". This is when a seller prices their goods at below cost and takes a loss in the hopes of driving the compitition out of the market. Once they have done that they can set their price anywhere they want to. There is another country I will not name that is fond of this tactic.

Talk about rage.........

Spirit 10-21-2008 05:43 PM

Lol @ silent. Yeah, I know it is all part of the game. And I have had stores set up beside me before that set their prices lower than me and all though it is like, :zomg:, I take it as it comes. But, this person was clearly “stalking” my store to outbid me. We went back and forth - back and forth. It reminded me of the time I was setting up a buying shop and the same person (for WEEKS), would come set up beside me and set their buying prices just a little bit more than me. I would even move my store to a different location and they would actually follow me. I started taking screenshots to report him, because Dakkon told me that is was harassing another player but I needed proof. But, I guess they ran out of money or time or patience, because I only managed to get 2 screenshots in two different locations before they stopped. So, since they left me alone, I did not bother reporting them.

We Cajuns and Creoles stole "lagniappe" from the Spanish fair and square. We rent it out to the Italians.

Spirit, are you using one of your Spirit characters to vend? You might want to use an anonymous alt in case it's some dillweed from FF or the officials.

Spirit 10-21-2008 07:42 PM

Yeah, I use Wind because she has the premium houses from Remi’s on her. After they run out though, I might try that.

The buying incident, I knew who it was and they are infamous on the officials for….. well, let’s just say they try to control the market. I had words with them on a buying thread on the officials, next thing I know my buying shop is literally being stalked all over Elderine. I would watch them set up, immediately pop out of my shop and move and within 5 minutes, their shop was set back up beside me in the new location. That was what qualified it for harassment.

Yeah, some n00b posted a link about it a month ago. (Don't necro.)

wompastompa 10-21-2008 09:33 PM

hmm...time to artificially inflate prices befor the world market comes to beat down profit with bat!

Belaslav 10-22-2008 04:43 AM

Auction house?!?! :zomg:

The day that gets implemented, the economy's gonna be raped and shotgunned. IMHO.

kirbysprite 10-22-2008 04:44 AM

I want that auction house, still.

Need to get rid of stuff in storage...

I think so too... i will never be able to buy those SBL for 500c each.. 2 meters from the guy that's buying them for 1s each...

and dont blame me when I have to start selling T3 scrolls for 15s+ each

Ralath 10-22-2008 06:55 AM

On the other hand, I feel like the auction house will be good.

An auction house will stop all those lame auctions that people post up and have people bid on only to not sell the item because the minimum price wasn't high enough.

(If it wasn't high enough, why didn't they set the price higher in the first place..... :goaway:)

It's a broken system.

If the prices go up, I don't think that it will be because of the aucti on house. Rather, I think that it would just be a natural inflation that would have happened regardless.
