Problems Uploading

anytime I try to upload a file I get an error:
The file is corrupt or has an incorrect extension. Please check the file and upload again.

I can upload using .jpg but .png format is blocked. Is there a reason for this? All my files are in .png format and it is a pain to convert to jpg and keep colors or bmp and not take up a huge amount of room.

Icy 10-21-2008 05:02 PM

The format of the file you try to upload must match the extension of the file name you're placing it under. So if you try to upload a PNG file to wiki/something.gif, you will get that error.

Gandalfa82 10-22-2008 02:59 AM

hum... I was doing png but it was from the uploader and the extentions were matching up.

Will try again on other items, I have a few more to do.

Icy 10-22-2008 09:12 AM

Then that's bizarre.

Gandalfa82 10-23-2008 01:15 AM

just checked again, I can not upload png files.

I try different ways but they all fail with the same error.

BTW, I have like 100 files to upload and I don't want to convert them over to .jpg/gif to upload.

Redoing the whole Skill Master Page will be a pain and a half.

Icy 10-23-2008 10:45 AM

I have tested this myself and I am now convinced that this is an error on behalf of the system. Let's forward this to Entropy.

Gandalfa82 10-23-2008 08:59 PM

ok, so I take it your bringing it to the attention of Entropy. So I will hold off till I hear more from that. Please let me know when you hear something so I know if I need to reformat all the files I have and change the pages.

Hessah 01-04-2009 09:52 PM

-necro-

Are there any updates to this?

I suppose Entropy hasnt been around to fix it? Coz I tried to upload some screenshots for the Guilds page, and is getting the same error msg...

I guess I've only got a few screenshots.. so I could change them to another file format if that works... (though I thought we want Wiki to have all png files...) So should I change them to jpg?

Gandalfa82 01-05-2009 08:42 AM

I would not consider it a necro since your question is about the topic.

And yes, convert to jpg to upload. Right now .png is off limits.

At one point our goal was to get all items .png but screen shots were to be .jpg anyway I think.

Icy 01-07-2009 01:12 AM

Generally, GIF compression (websnap adaptive 256) gives you good quality for bytes for small files ~ 100x100, say. PNG is also okay for these small ones. BMP is only good for very small files. With PNG, files the size of 1280x800 screenshots always seem to be larger than JPEG (similar quality, ~9/10)... i.e. use .jpg format anyway!

Edit: Nope, problem persists.

Hessah 01-07-2009 01:22 AM

Ohh ok it's gonna be cropped Screenshots... I should be able to save them as nice JPEG files... Thx!

Entropy 02-14-2009 07:27 AM

png uploading fixed

Gandalfa82 02-15-2009 01:43 AM

Thanks Entropy :)

Finally we can use the png files again instead of all this .gif/.jpg/.png combs that are floating around.

I hope everyone's stuck to the file name syntax, which makes looking for a specific genre of icons much easier. Saying this, I note that a few times users had uploaded image with random keyboard bashing type names containing perfectly legible content. It bemuses me why they hadn't simply given it a proper name...

Triumph 02-15-2009 10:00 PM

I think it's the same reason why no one bothers to give me my edit summaries.

I seen that also, Thank you for fixing it :D

I'm not sure why they are unable to put 1/2 a thought behind it and name it based on what it is.

The bots do, and sometimes me and Icy do. But if you notice it is the same users over and over that are not leaving the edit summaries and they are editing pages that have been determined to be useless. lol.

Same... =[

Belaslav 02-16-2009 04:19 AM

See what you did Tri?

Icy 02-17-2009 10:25 PM

Why was this closed.

Anyway, just to Dispel Triumph's Myth (oh, a pun).

Triumph is in fact the reason no one bothers with edit summaries, all faults rests with him. I sincerely encourage everyone who is no one but Triumph to file a class-action suit against him.

Blaaaaaaaah 02-17-2009 11:06 PM

Sorry I think I accidentally closed too many threads in here when I was closing some threads older than a month.

Reopened (but if Triumph closed it for some reason... then feel free to close it again, lol).

Triumph 02-17-2009 11:42 PM

It wasn't me who closed.

I'm aware some people put edit summaries, but most people don't.

Anyways, Icy, I recently dug your quest spreadsheet out, and with the recent developments of Fiesta, there have been additional data that can be inserted, recalculating the most efficient road to 89. PM me if you care.

I have been lurking in Uruga recently. I appeared twice, and saw an Enraya when I was in Elderine, and a LuLong.

Both had that freaky guild tag.

Hessah 02-17-2009 11:45 PM

Some of the quest names have changed too..

i think i updated some as i went.. but i dunno if i got them all.. if anyone wanna double check...

Icy 02-18-2009 01:30 AM

Just a little reminder, try to classify your uploads onto the wiki by prefixing them. For example, Item- or Skill- or Monster- or NPC- usw.

My sarcasm fell on deaf ears :cries:Okay, Hessah and Blaaaaaaaah, don't let Triumph reduce you to no ones, fight the one who exploits with a revolution! Stand strong!

Send me the spreadsheet somehow, and I'll have a look. Although, priority will be given to my Lagrange multiplier homework. Incidentally, it's about minimising/maximising functions with constraints, although I won't be applying that to analysing quest rewards.

Oh. ちょっと...You've had enough of nolifing RS? Want to 89 now? :O

I actually never knew about those prefixes...

What about those screenshots that i uploaded for my guild guide...

Anybody that's free should probably run their eyes throug the page too... I think i'm missing a few things.. but.. i dunno wat anymore...

do i need to put -stub- thingy on it...? for a draft page?

It's not done, I do it sparingly. I don't think there will be much change, but there is this quest that apparently yield 117M experience, which is a guaranteed level until level 89.

The second comment was referring to the GG is what I meant, it is spreading...

Not directed at you.

I have gained approximately 50M experience within the span of three months. So yes, I think I have played way too much. I am not Gertjaars; I cannot throw Red Chinchompas 12 hours a day and earn 3M experience in Ranged daily.Fiesta... Fiesta's not that fun, I've reverted to Starcraft.

I've simply looked around and I'm unimpressed. Sparkcash is emphasized stronger than ever, and GMs quit by the droves.

Icy has his own little guidelines, I dare not say what I would say.

He has a ferocious temper.

I'm not sure if it's just me.. but despite their emphasise on Sparkcash.. I find it at more recent months.. I can play just as well without spending any money.. I use to spend $5-10 a month... i've spent about $20 in the last 6 months... YAY me!

Ohhh ok XD

In other words, do what you want Hessah.

Hessah 02-18-2009 04:16 AM

ohhhhhhh Thanks for the advise Ralath XD

Screenshots should be named what the images describe, although a prefix saying what it is would help. The issue I raise is of a different nature, which concerns people uploading skill icons and other similar sets of images with inconsistent and irregular names.

Okay! If anyone has trouble uploading in the future, post here.

I would say for your Guild Screen shots that I seen you do, you probably could have named it like SS-Guild1.jpg. This would say it is a screen shot of Guild 1, for guild creation maybe SS-Guild_Creation.jpg, if more then one used then number them based on the steps.

But this does not really matter what Icy is mainly referring to is the Skills/Icons/Items stuff. After all you have a Scroll Image for the Skill you buy, Icon for the Skill you use and they both have the same name. In other words, prefixed files not only make them searchable as a set, they are also distinguished for their appropriate contexts.

The prefixes that I know of so far are as follows:
Item - refers to items in the game, Armor, weapons, loot, etc... Basically anything you can house in your inventory. Can have suffix SS to tell if it is an In game Screen shot of the item.
Skill - refers to Skills. If it is on your Quick Bar as a skill to effect target then it would be referred to as a Skill.
Icon - Icons are images that reflect other things. They are used for like Face Icon for NPCs/Mobs, anything that has 2 pictures to represent it and one is much smaller then the other. Smallest will be Icon. Also used for Map Icons.
Monster - refers to the large image of a monster.
NPC - refers to the large image of a NPC
Map - Image of a Zone. Suffix - Lvl - refers to the map that has the levels of monsters listed.
Coin - In game currency images.
SS - In game Screen shot of certain screens. If of an item please consider Item as the prefix and SS as the suffix.
As for everything else - a succinct and sensible name will suffice

I'm sure there are more but I can not think of them for now.

Explanation:
Image: prefix-name-suffix.type

Example:

Icy, if you would please correct anything that I am missing or mistaken on. Or make a nice list for us to see what all the options are :D
