Going to Japan

I'm going to Japan for holiday in about 2 months time.. and i just wanna double check if i need a visa... i found this site...

http://www.mofa.go.jp/j_info/visit/visa/02.html

and... Australia seems to be excempted.. but why are we the only country with a * and it doesnt say anywhere what taht * means :err:

I hope i can still get into japan without trouble LOL!

Loveless 09-29-2008 04:11 AM

o_O Have fun! Avoid rush hours on trains. You'll never get out if you're not pushy. And err... prepare to gain a couple pounds cause the food is just too good to pass up.

I went to Japan with my Canadian passport... had no problems getting in. I thought visas were only for those who were studying or working. .__.

Hessah 09-29-2008 04:16 AM

This is the first time i've organised an overseas trip by myself so I just wanna double check to make sure LOL!! Dont think i need a visa unless its for more than 3 months...

Yeah i'm looking forward to food *O* apparently seafood is cheaper than meat over there XD I'm gonna gain a couple of pounds.. but my wallet will lose a few LOL!

Apparently I need a JR-Pass too... do u know if we could travel practically everywhere with that? i wonder if we still have to pay more for other types of trains.... -still trying to understand how japaneses public transport system works-

Lady-Loki 09-29-2008 04:25 PM

It looks like you do not, but to be safe, maybe call someone on this page:

Embassies, Consulates, Permanent Missions Overseas

Yosei 09-29-2008 06:34 PM

ooo I know a good youtuber who can help with any issues with going to Japan =D go to youtube and look up tokyocooney, he has links and videos and FAQ about foreigners going to Japan.

Loveless 09-29-2008 06:43 PM

JR Pass will make it easier, I believe, if you're going to be travelling alot within Japan. It'll be good cause you can pretty much go anywhere by foot/train. And a lot of train stations, last time I went, had some English under the names too.

UserName 09-29-2008 08:22 PM

May i hide in your suitcase?

Andromeda 09-29-2008 08:38 PM

I still don't understand why people are so obsessed with Japan. Its the country of anime. Oh crap I think I answered my own question.:err:

When I go overseas I'm going to Stockholm, Moscow, Warsaw, Budapest and maybe Istanbul. Personally I'd avoid going to Japan full stop now (Used to love Japan but not now) but everyone likes different places mine just happens to be Europe :D

Good luck on your trip though.

PS: You've given me motivation to start saving money faster for my trip xD.

Loveless 09-29-2008 09:00 PM

I think you're silly to think people go to Japan only for anime. O__o Not saying this only cause it's my home country either.

Btw Hessah, you should go to Nara. They have wild deer roaming the town/city... and you can get these things called Nara Senbei that you can feed them with. I haven't been there myself but it'd be a nice experience. And... the aquariums and amusements parks are nice too! Man, I wanna go to Japan... last I went was for a business trip so not much time to have "fun".

I'm planning to go Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo...

OMG Japan is soooooo much more than just anime >.> I dont even watch anime anymore..

They've got their food, hot springs, temples, bullet trains, disneyland (but i think i'd wanna go to DisneySea), tea ceremonies, dispensers (yeah LOL apparently they have machines for everything), shopping (Totoro shop!! ok maybe a little bit of anime XD)... just the whole culture.. i reckon it'd be like walking into the future LOL

@ Loveless - We're thinking of going to Kyoto for a more traditional japanese style city.. is Nara a better option? I might look into that too...

@ Username - i shall find some octopus balls, take a photo and post it for u here...?

Loveless 09-29-2008 11:28 PM

I can tell Derrik is not thinking in the right train of thought. Yeah. Get off of that train there buddy.

I'm not sure where Nara is exactly but that's one of the options you could look into. I went to DisneySea and it was fun even though we went there off season. *0* When I think about it though because you're going to walk quite a lot maybe you won't gain anything and just work it off. xD You'll be climbing a LOT of stairs... you'd wonder how those ladies walk in high heels all day up and down stairs. o__o That's talent in a sense.

Hessah 09-29-2008 11:33 PM

isnt it better togo off season?! less people supposingly right?

well that's comforting that i could probably work off the laod i put on HAHAHA

O_o wat is derrick thinking? er no wait i dont wanna know...

UserName 09-29-2008 11:42 PM

Just can't guarantee it'll be good as theirs. xD

Hessah 09-29-2008 11:53 PM

Username is -4 yrs old O_o

octopus balls are similar to fish balls right? but its octopus instead of fish? LOL!!

Loveless 09-29-2008 11:55 PM

Mm... nope. There's a piece of octopus inside that batter with other ingredients in it. Depends on where you get it and ingredients change slightly.

UserName 09-29-2008 11:56 PM

Hessah 09-29-2008 11:58 PM

Japs make ice cream out of everything~

Yosei 09-30-2008 01:05 AM

I forgot the name. Its a really tall shopping center building.

His vlogs are actually very helpful. He shows you where to go to see the events of the month, all of the popular and good areas to go and such.

Hessah 09-30-2008 01:16 AM

Ooo thx Yosei... i'll need to go home and youtube away~
